I spent the weekend at the Splore music-festival shown in the attached report. (Yes, MHR, we WERE camping! ;D )
Given our age, it was not a natural situation for my wife and I, as far the music-style was concerned, but we were mainly there in the role of child-minders, both for our own grand-children and the kids of our son's friends.
Having said that, I did enjoy some of the daytime bands which were not entirely dependent on repetitive beats (and/or drugs). Also, The Orb put on their usual amazing visuals.
The music wasn't the only focus, anyway. The weather was glorious, and as you can see from the pictures, the venue is second-to-none.
Given the weather you have had, I don't know if this will cheer you all up or depress you further. - view external link (http://www.3news.co.nz/Splore-2014-review/tabid/418/articleID/332639/Default.aspx)

Saw more music at the weekend. This time, Bruce Springs****. He played two nights at Mt. Smart Stadium (Auckland's main Rugby League venue), with 40,000 there each night. He played for three and a half hours, doing a different set of songs on the two nights.
Absolutely brilliant. Great songs, superb musicians, fantastic atmosphere. That was the sixth time we've seen him. As good as ever.
A sure way of recovering from Saturday's result.

Almost forgot. For those of you who ARE fans, take a look at this video. It's Bruce's cover of Suicide's original, and it shows clips from the whole of his career, including all those who have played with him over the years. - view external link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaZRSQfFo8Y)

:D PBC - there were two lads standing next to us in their mid-twenties. They knew the words to every song Bruce sang. As I said to them at the end, "From generation to generation!"
I feel sorry for those who limit themselves to one kind of music, or restrict themselves to what they think will make them look absolutely up-to-date!

Aucks, I seem to have lost my eldest (17) to One bloody Direction...not impressed...had high hopes too. :blue:

The ironic thing is my 10yr old asked if I could burn her a copy of The Wall...although she plays 'Another brick in the wall' to death she also listens to some of the other tracks. She hates One Direction and those kind of bands...much more a 'rebel' girl B)

Funny thing the other day was that dad was blasting out ACDC in the cellar (playing darts), whilst the 17yr old was playing bland crap upstairs...how times have changed XD

PBC - I burn CDs for my 13-year-old grand-daughter, and I regularly infiltrate a few classics I think she should hear. I am hoping this has a long-term beneficial effect!
