Recent form guide at Goodison. Last 5 games

2012/2013 Sun 12 May Everton 2 - 0 West Ham Utd.
2010/2011 Sat 22 Jan Everton 2 - 2 West Ham Utd.
2009/2010 Sun 04 Apr Everton 2 - 2 West Ham Utd.
2008/2009 Sat 16 May Everton 3 - 1 West Ham Utd.
2007/2008 Sat 22 Mar Everton 1 - 1 West Ham Utd.

We have played Everton at Goodison 57 matches.
Won 10,Drawn 11 and lost the others.

We possibly might expect to be defeated at the weekend, all good runs come to a halt; however with boundless optimism, I am going to predict a 2-2 draw.

It has the potential of being a good weekend for us. Fulham entertain Chelsea XD , Sunderland v Westbrom Postponed ;D and Cardiff have the pleasure of hosts Tottenham

Meaning obviously, that the bottom four will not accrue any points at all. Double f.ucking yippee !

I suppose hamster cheeks, will win February Premiership manager of the month :O

Everton have lost 3 of their last 5 having only lost to Man City before that. the key will be which Tim howard turns up in goal for them. If he does his Nev Southall impersonations we're in trouble. If he does his nut like he did against Sunderland and gets sent off, we're quids in.
I'm going for a 0-1 with Mark Noble to score from a pen

First thing is not to give any free kicks away in and around the box...remember Baines at UP a few weeks ago...

It's usually one game I personally write off as we never get any change out of em...however you could say this is the right time to play em!

1-1 for me

Any notions about not changing a winning side will be forgotten with the news that Jagielka is out injured. AC will play.

And why not go for it ? Lukaku if fit won't be 100% and although Everton have many other good players, another fighting performance and a decent result I hope.

I will be amazed if we win on Saturday.

Its nice to have decent options in defence, midfield and attack.

If we do stay up and can keep improving squad we could have something to look forward to.

Surprised we are big odds (7/1) to win this. Even the draw (3/1).

If Sam is right, in that we have been doing the defensive bit all season but are only now getting the finishing act together, that appears a worthwhile flutter.

Whiskyman

If Allardyce gets the "Manager Of The Month" award, usually the kiss of death, we are royally firked.

If he misses out a draw could be on the cards.

Either way I don't see a goalfest.

Dailly___7
28-02-2014, 05:10 PM
A draw would be a great result.

But I can see a loss as our run of form can't continue! Things are going too well at the moment!

Don't lose by a big scoreline as confidence might drop.

0-2.

JimmyV66
28-02-2014, 07:17 PM
West Ham trying to win 5 games on the trot?
Playing away to Everton?
Manager of the month going to Allardyce?
Everton on their first bad spell of the season?
West Ham win pretty much gets rids of any last remaining relegation doubts?

Would be stunned if we did not get a good old fashioned tonking in this one. Everton is just one of our many bogey teams.

4-0 Everton.

Be funny if the Cobra were to score twice. Then we would have a situation, where are main striker was injured half the season, comes back, plays one game, gets sent off, serves a 3 game ban and then spends time on the bench. Oh,the irony.

Another half where we have only had 30% possesion. Game after game after game. :blue:

Indeed. But... I suppose taking into account that Goodison is in the heart of "f-uck-all Shire" for us and with the law of averages being stacked up against us following a good run... not too bad.

Not a pretty game (sadly the norm when we play good sides away) and we're always going to be at the mercy of a stroke of genius or a silly mistake playing that way. But no reason to be down or for to let this game affect our confidence.
Bring on Stoke... COYI !!!

Never expected to win this one but it was a little disappointing that we weren't able to switch from defending and have a go once they'd scored.

Since 1987 we have played Everton 45 times. 7 wins. :blue:

Oddily enough we have also only beaten Liverpool 7 times in our last 45 games.

As an Everton fan I well know we are one of your bogey sides. We do have a boss record against the Hammers since I was took to my first Everton game in 1983 as a then naive 7 year old.

But, to be fair, the biggest game between our clubs during this period you lot won. The 1991 FA Cup quarter final, my first ever visit to the Boleyn. A game many blues still have nightmares about!

Seriously, what's the point of getting up at all hours to watch us try not to lose, thinking we can bank on our luck.

25% possession... well if that's the way we play then so be it, but at least when we have the ball could we please look like we know what to do with it, it's way too predictable, and looks awful. Why no plan or a plan A with more than one method...?

No adventure, little play except ineffective hoof balls, against a team that really wash't much better than ours on paper, or for that matter, on the pitch.

02-03-2014, 06:37 AM
As Whiskyman said, if I wasn't a West Ham supporter I wouldn't pay to watch them. Actually I don't anyway, not under Allardyce, but you see the point.

Premiership survival is now the be all and end all and it's really sad that in this league of two seperate leagues, to achieve that end is considered a succesful season. A symptom of that is our players doing a lap of honour last May for finishing tenth.

But it is what it is and we are what we are. 10 minutes or so from another point but against the better sides if you set your stool out to not concede but have no threat yourselves you'll get lucky very occasionally as we did at the Bridge, but yesterday we didn't.

Sky is to blame and managers like Allardyce and Pulis love it. It means permanent employment as the ludicrous amounts of money thrown at the Premier League mean to hell with the cups, let's aim for tenth.

Maybe, just maybe when the Olympic Stadium is our new home, things may be different but even then dismantling a side ge

This is not so.

The whole back unit including Noble is in place for any system. The wide midfielders will be Ok in a less demanding defensive role, as will the striker.

All that's necessary to convert to a more balanced team is the purchase of two or three all round central midfielders, who can bring the ball out of defence with a bit of pace and pass to/interpass with the attack.

No great re-structuring necessary.

rednekst
02-03-2014, 10:24 AM
Palerider,

Okay we were under bombardment for much of the game...all same same at Chelsea as well. But we were beaten by one mishap in the defence and a referee being blind again.

Barry should have been sent off in the first half for hauling Nolan rearwards...but referee this time favored the home side.

As for the ' WTF ' goal...well if you really watch there was no one paying any attention to him from nearer than five yards.

So this 'massive' restructuring is a mere figment of your very one sided imagination really.

Just onward's and upwards for the rest of the season.

Give over with the dodgy comments please

Not too sure about that Mike. Imo you are spot on about us requiring midfielders with pace and, as you say, a minimum of 2, but ideally 3, are needed.

We also need a quality LB and a proven goalscorer (or two). Unfortunately knowing what we need and having the necessary funds to bring these players in are two different things.

The whole structure of our team at present is

I am not looking to necessarily improve our overall position..lower mid table..that WOULD take a fortune.

Any upgrading of Full backs or strikers is desirable under any system, but wouldn't be necessary for the purposes of changing to a more attacking approach.

Just replace the "specialist"midfielders we have and replace with all-rounders.

"Lumping" would be eliminated as soon as the midfield's ability improves.

Whiskyman
02-03-2014, 02:19 PM
But don't you think, Mike, that if we eliminated lumping, which most I'm sure would see as desirable, we would need a forward, or forwards, suited to a more on the ground based game.

My point being that with Carroll or Cole as the focus there is little point in having the more skilful, pacy, midfielders you've identified.

dagenhamJohn
02-03-2014, 02:43 PM
why not the pacey midfielders with Carroll and Cole?

we can always compromise our tactics, everyone says we are a 1 trick pony so why not a stable! :)

The Forwards would be improved by having much more room, their usual markers having to meet the attacking midfielders. Jarvis and Downing receiving the ball further upfield would have more options and get to the by-line on a regular basis

The crosses would continue Tone, and would be more accurate, and hopefully more varied, as the wide players would probably receive the ball already in an attacking area and not along their own 12 yard line,so wouldnt have to carry the ball 60 yards before releasing it.

Carroll and Cole would be able to put away the type of cut back chance that Lukaku executed yesterday. They havent been wasting too many chances, there just aint been too many.

You don't need to spend a fortune to change your style. But you need a manager that will encourage it and a good scouting system.
