Everton are set to hold onto Lacina Traore despite his recent injury concerns.


Roberto Martinez today confirmed that Lacina Traore will remain with Everton despite facing up to five weeks on the sidelines.

The Ivory Coast international has made just one appearance since securing a loan move to Goodison Park in January after he suffered a hamstring injury in the warm-up before last month's defeat to Chelsea, leading to fears that he might never play for the Toffees again.

But consultations with specialists in England and France earlier this week revealed that the extent of Traore's injury did not require surgery, which would have seen Everton void their agreement with Monaco, and that the striker will return to action before the end of this season.

And Martinez believes the towering 23-year-old can provide an additional boost during the season run-in as Everton bid to secure European qualification for the first time since 2009.

Can't see the point in this one. He's racking up the wage bill from now until he starts playing, contributed a little, and is clearly made of glass. Let him go home.

I am all for getting behind our lads no matter where they're drafted in from - but I can't help thinking we should have given Vellios a run out ahead of getting Traore in.

Hope he makes me eat some words in his last few games for us if he makes it but somehow I doubt it.
