I asked this a few years ago and the response was generally negative. I was just wondering if attitudes have changed in the intervining years.

Sheffield being a two club city could be what holds both clubs back from challenging traditionally bigger clubs like Man Utd, PNE, Leeds Utd and Liverpool in terms of prestige and gloriousness.

If you merged the clubs into one then sold Bramall Lane and Hillsborough and used the cash to build a purpose built 70,000+ mega stadium you would probably be loads more sucessfull and maybe one day be english champions like PNE have been.

My suggestion for the new clubs would be 'The Steel City Stripers' and you could play in red & blue stripes and red & blue halved shorts and red & blue hooped socks.

Could this ever happen of is it just a pipedream?

Pipe dream, more like a nightmare...& yes I can see how being a two club city has held back Liverpool & Man Utd.

Not an ideal week for you to be dusting off your penalty material is it pinthirsty?

Not much chance of a merger thor, United have stable committed ownership. However, Wednesday have an owner keen and open to sell and getting deeper into desperation by the day. His family want their inheritance securing.

Don't rule out Red Bull buying and rebranding Wednesday like they did with the Metrostars and Casino Salzburg. Probably when Wednesday are back in the third tier.
