When I first saw the headline, I thought the Suarez family must be visiting the City.

Mutant super rats invading Liverpool.

Giant 'mutant' rats have reportedly made their way to Liverpool.

A number of the large vermin have already been seen in parts of London and Birmingham, and it now seems they are continuing their journey up north.

The 'cat sized' rats, which have been spotted across Merseyside, are resistant to traditional poisonous bait and officials now think they'll need stronger methods to kill them.

'They're becoming very resistant to bait in Liverpool,' pest controller Sean Whelan told the Liverpool Echo.

'Soon we'll have to be putting third generation bait down which we will need to get legislation for'

The super rats are thought to have grown so big because of the increase in food left on the streets, which they consume.

Mr Whelan added: 'They're like humans, they eat and eat and get bigger and bigger.'
