Shortlisted for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award, Kris Boyd is chuffed, honoured, but grounded. Here is a player with no illusions over his rank in footballa€™s food chain.

a€˜Youa€™re talking to players who are playing in Scotland,a€™ says the Kilmarnock striker bluntly. a€˜And wea€™re here for a reason. We might be in the top league in Scotland, but wea€™re not top players and thata€™s the be all and end all.

a€˜A lot of the time at the Old Firm clubs, you might not perform to a level but, because youa€™re in a small country, Rangers and Celtic might get overhyped.

a€˜But any time wea€™ve gone into Europe, wea€™ve found that out. That theya€™re not as good as what they expect to be.
