Great honour for ex-GAA player Seamus Coleman.

Former Killybegs Gaelic footballer and avid Donegal fan Seamus Coleman wasd in the Professional Footballers' Association's Premier League Team of the Year last night.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international was selected in the right-back position after his best-ever season for Everton. Coleman rubbed shoulders with the likes of Liverpool's Luis Suarez - who was voted Player of the Year - Steven Gerrard, Chelsea's Eden Hazard and Manchester City's Yaya Toure at the awards ceremony in London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

Donegal centre back Karl Lacey was among the first to congratulate Coleman when tweeting: "Well done Seamus Coleman, true professional #FullyDeserved."

Coleman was a talented Gaelic footballer with Killybegs before embarking on a successful soccer career. He was in Ballybofey last October to see his former team-mates lose the Donegal SFC final to Michael Murphy's Glenswilly and admitted at the time:

Really happy that he's received the recognition he deserves. Talking of which, it was a real master-stroke by Moysie in bringing him to the Club B)
