Birmingham City: David Gold says he was right to sell Blues to Carson Yeung but will be gutted if they go down
Former Birmingham City owner David Gold has spoken out ahead of the crucial clash at St Andrew's with Wigan and said he would be devastated if the club were relegated.
He sold Birmingham City in 2009 to Carson Yeung for AŁ81.5m, along with fellow West Ham owner David Sullivan.
Speaking to the Daily Mail he defended their decision to sell the club to the now jailed Hong Kong businessman.
"Birmingham City were in the best financial position they have been in 30 years. They were in the Premier League.
"You have to remember 86 per cent of the fans in the local paper voted for a change. How can you blame the fans wanting what we all thought was a super-millionaire with untold fortunes? The fans at that moment were salivating.
