England's players may have left the draining conditions of Manaus and returned to Rio beaten by Italy in their first World Cup game - but this was a defeat that felt different. - view external link (www.england-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/england_loss_to_italy_need_not_spell_disaster_8346 24/index.shtml)

It's how they respond against Uruguay now. The Italy result has gone. Taking your chances, ie Rooney's one in the second half, is often the difference.

"but this was a defeat that felt different"?

No it didn't. It was the same feeling of defeat we always feel when the team is completey clueless how to respond a side that was actually tackling back in our own half.

On a positive, we really showed the world how to string 15 and 20 square passes across the back 4 without being able to counter attack...Oh and the passing back was superb. I particularly enjoyed the a few seconds when we nearly got into the italian half in the second period.

We were out witted, out played and out smarted with Hodgson no idea of what to do about the Ities holding us at bay for 45 minutes.

Rooney $ h!t, Gerrard $ h!t...And these are supposed to be our experienced leaders...The 12 year old Stirling put them to shame.
