After a first half 0 -0 stalemate, Alex Mowatt opened the scoring for Leeds on 49 minutes with a left footed curled opener.
Not to be outdone, Johann Berg Gudmundsson scored the first of his two goals on 62 minutes for Charlton with a drilled shot from a tight angle which squirmed under Marco Silvestri in goal for Leeds.
The Leeds players were task focussed throughout and carried this into the 2nd half when Mowatt scored his second Leeds goal with another curling shot this time from 20 yards out on 67 minutes.
Giuseppe Belluscis' foul in the box gave the Addicks a penalty from which Gudmundsson scored from the spot on 81 minutes earning then a point from the game.
