Instead of hoping to hear maybe five minutes on the Dons in the nightly Sportsound podcasts, or forensically searching for any mention of Scottish football at all in the larger English podcasts, give our show a listen.

Half an hour each week on the Dons and nothing but the Dons.

You can listen to the latest show and the back issues on Soundcloud here:
https://soundcloud.com/bytheminsport/sets/by-the-min-aberdeen

And you can also find the show on iTunes podcast section under the "ByTheMin Aberdeen Podcast" (Number 130 on the iTunes charts and rising!)

Give it a listen and let us know what you think, where we can improve, and what you'd like to hear us discuss.

Far too negative for me.
You need to project more positively.

I listened to the whole of podcast 4, and it seems that you guys may not understand the technicalities of football (in my opinion).

Calling for a Calvin Zola type battering ram type striker for one.
Failure to realise that Jack dropping into a back three, allows Shinnie to push forward and overlap Hayes as well as Logan overlapping McGinn at the same time.
Failure to spot that Hayes and McGinn was not sticking to the wings and willing to drift in as well and cross sides.
The whole midfield were interchanging positions allowing a great fluidity and make it hard for the opposition to mark.

You even failed to notice or comment that Neither Langfield of Shankland was in the squad, leading to confirming the rumour that they could be off to the likes of St Mirren

The discussion on Shay Logan I understand. He has 4 children down south and with McInnes saying nobody is moving before we are out of Europe, it opens the

I haven't listened yet - but great to know there's one out there dealing solely with AFC.

I recall a previous one from some Inverness-based reds, but all it did was told you what you could find out elsewhere - some proper opinion, whether we all agree or not, will be welcome.

Cheers for the feedback above and to those of you that have taken the time to listen.

Just to respond to the claims of it being "a timmy invention". The By The Minute project is indeed the brainchild of Lawrence Donegan, former bassist in Lloyd Cole's band, golf writer and, yes, Celtic fan. The first feeds were set up to cover the Masters a couple of years ago and others followed. We kicked off the Aberdeen one this year and the guys behind it are very definitely reds.

As for the accusations of negativity, that's maybe to be expected given a week in which we were knocked out of Europe, and the associated subject matter of our feedback feature that week. Why not try listening to one of the other shows to see if you still think we're too negative?

Equally we don't intend it being a closed shop. If you think our tactical assessments aren't incisive enough, then we'd love to have you on the show so that we can improve!

As I spend around 1hr 20mins a day on average driving to and from work these days, podcasts are the thing !

Having just subscribed and listened to the most recent one* of these this morning, can only say it’s great to now have what sounds a decent dedicated AFC one at last. Hopefully will continue to be a fine alternative to the Guardian (enjoyable but up their own @rse a bit), The Terrace (insightful, but a bit of an annoying gigglefest at times) or Sportsound (which is becoming more and more about the monotony of listening to Richard Wilshun talk about Sevco).

Keep up the good work…..

(*ps even if the "feature" at the end was a tad macabre and almost led to me slitting my wrists)

BTM Aberdeen Podcast
14-08-2015, 10:07 AM
The equivalent bit on the other three shows have been your favourite AFC goals, hopes and fears for the season and your favourite AFC in Europe memories so it's just a bit unfortunate that the one we've publicised on here has had that downer on it! However, it's all part of being a Dons fan.

The topic on the next show is your 'What if?' moments - such as 'What if we had actually signed Gabriel Batistuta?"

You can leave your comments here, or to our Twitter account mentioned above.

just a quick comment from me ; what can you do to improve the sound quality? It was driving me mad the first two podcasts and the levels were all over the place too.

BTM Aberdeen Podcast
14-08-2015, 02:36 PM
Totally agree that the sound quality could be better, and we have been tweaking things each week to try and improve it. However, it's recorded over Skype, so we're aware there'll be a limit to how good we can get it.

As for the making Ep 3 downloadable on Soundcloud I'll try and fix that tonight and report back if I've been able to. Obviously iTunes users can still download it through that portal.

Oops, a bit late for this week’s feature, but all the same….

First ever away game (with my old man taking me) - 1-0 win at Tannadice, LC semi first leg 1981 (enjoyable, but they scudded us 3-0 in second leg with Sturrock I think scoring a couple of peaches).

First ever travelling with mates - 1-0 win at Arbroath, Scottish Cup 1986 – crazy in and out of the stadium, following the dons in the late 80s as a ****ager was generally an ‘experience’

BTM Aberdeen Podcast
25-08-2015, 09:52 AM
It's really the file compression to get the show down to a manageable size for iTunes that's causing most of the issues this week rather than the fact it's done via Skype. Hopefully we'll hit upon a happy medium that gives us reasonable quality v file size.

Appreciate anyone taking the time to listen and, as ever, keen for feedback on the content.

BTM Aberdeen Podcast
25-08-2015, 12:55 PM
Will upload a higher quality version of the file to Soundcloud tonight, but it is huge, so if you're downloading, I'd stick to the original one.

BTM Aberdeen Podcast
25-08-2015, 06:29 PM
Calling it 'high quality' might be pushing it, but here's a less compressed version of the podcast. Turned off download option due to the file size:

Swissdon
26-08-2015, 01:13 AM
What's your filesizes? Forgot to check before I deleted it. To give you a guideline, the BBC seem to be around 40-50MB for a show that length and that's fine (even up to about 60MB or so is fine these days).

BTM Aberdeen Podcast
26-08-2015, 08:54 AM
It's as much to do with the hosting costs of larger files on the platform that pushes to iTunes etc, as the time it takes to download them to be honest.
However, on Soundcloud, given that only a small percentage of listeners download from there and usually just stream, I may just put the less compressed versions up there.

Swissdon
26-08-2015, 03:44 PM

Cheers lads. Finally got my @rse in gear and subscribed.

Downloaded the Graham Hunter one and the recent David Preece one - both enjoyable listens. Preece's interview was a revelation and you could tell he really has an affinity for the club. His memory was fantastic and you could tell he really enjoyed his relationships with his team mates.

One theme that came across in the two podcasts was that it was important the club had a manager that set "high standards and expectations". Both Hunter and Preece spoke about this in respect of McInnes (Preece also mentions it with respect to Calderwood and Nicholl). It's quite shocking to think that this is not "a given" at a football club and that it takes certain types to, in Aberdeen's case, re-introduce the standards after they slip.

Anyway, keep up the good work lads, enjoyed it.

Just been catching up ...

No. 23 was interesting regarding the league reconstruction debate - although I was a bit annoyed you led in with the reference to the banner at Kilmarnock .... and then didn't talk at all about the sentiment behind the banner - maybe you can put that right in a future edition?

FWIW I'm on the side of the 3 lads advocating a 16-team league. Add in a winter shut-down from mid December to mid-February. Season starts in July and runs into June. League Cup from July to November, Scottish from March to June. Dare I even throw in the idea of a US style salary-cap to spice up the competition?

Just catching up on these posts, appreciate everyone who's taken the time to listen to a show or two so far.

Re the reconstruction chat - I think the lead in was something along the lines of "Stewart Milne made some truly daft comments the other week". I think there was an assumption that the audience would know what was said, and what the point of the banner was so there wasn't any need to labour the point.

Anyway, usual plug for the last few shows. More low key ones over Christmas but still worth a listen (well, we would say that) - easiest place to catch up is on this link: https://soundcloud.com/bytheminsport/sets/by-the-min-aberdeen

We got a fair bit of feedback on Twitter as well about stuff relating to match picks, or the value of the TV deal, but we knew there was no point asking that question as the mechanics of the deal are nothing to do with Derek. He basically commentates on the games he's told to do - was the same when he was covering Brazilian football or whatever else at ESPN.

The other point raised frequently was about the general dreadfulness of Chris Sutton. Again, it's fairly pointless asking that question as he gets given a co-commentator without much say.

Gallus min, again I'm not entirely sure what your beef with Paul Lawrie is, but I really don't think that's fair. It was entirely our decision to talk about his foundation etc and direct the chat there rather than look back through his career in great detail. And if you do consider that to be self-promotion then so what? I think these things are genuinely giving a lot back to the North East and deserve to be promoted.

If Soundcloud is blocked where you are, you might have more luck here: http://bytheminsport.com/podcasts

This week we're joined by David MacGregor of indie band Kid Canaveral as we try and make sense of the chaos that was Dingwall on Sunday, despair at the inclination of modern footballers to dive at the slightest touch/manicure themselves to within an inch of their lives, while the feedback topic was watching Dons games with the enemy.

As ever, keen to hear your comments if you've taken the time to listen.

Latest podcast came out last night, where our guest was merchandiser to the more sophisticated Dons fan - Dolly Digital (or rather his mild mannered alter-ego)

We covered the win at Dundee, the fan experience in Scotland in light of the SPFL meeting last week, while the feedback topic was Meeting Dons Players in Unusual Circumstances.

I do think it's a common situation with ex professionals, and one that, I'd argue, you could also hear hints of beneath the surface in our David Preece interview.

Whilst it may have been difficult to think of him struggling with the transition, getting a measure of the guy behind the one who played in red and is preserved in our memories that way is a good thing, no? Or do you just want to hear about the games he played in?

Ultimately, we can try and have a plan of where we want to take an interview, and it can go somewhere else entirely and those are probably the better shows.

Mason89
03-02-2016, 11:51 AM
That was a bit difficult at points. You don't want to hear such a nice chap struggling a bit.

Giving credit for the cup to the penalty takers before him in sudden death, shows the measure of the man. Scored a peach against the Bankie filth as well.

Guest this week is Sunday Times Journalist, Sunday Supplement regular, and Dons fan Jonathan Northcroft.

We cover the two big wins over the past seven days and their implication on the title race, speak with Jonathan about his footballing life and reveal which Pittodrie games left the biggest impression, while there's always room for a Fergie story or two.

Then the feedback topic this week is transfers that never quite materialised.

Been a bit lax plussing these on here, if you've already listened to them, thanks and apologies for the spamming of the board...

Just listened to Willie Miller - Pt 2 which I enjoyed very much. Anyone know the Ryan Gauld story he was alluding to?

Also, it was interesting how Willie pretty much shrugged off the infamous "You've let us down again" graffiti which was daubed on the Pittodrie walls after yet another cup final defeat as - uncalled for vandalism; while Fergie has implied that it was possibly the catalyst that drove him/them on the road to greater things........or did I imagine that?

BTM Aberdeen Podcast
01-07-2016, 11:07 PM
We didn't know the Ryan Gauld story and would have pressed him but we were fast running out of time by that point. No doubt someone on here will have the goss though.

I think his point on the graffiti was that the will to win in the squad was already strong, and they were just as disappointed as the fans. I'll have to go back and re-read A Light in the North to see what Fergie's exact take was, but that's my recollection.

Aye, we actually asked him about that after the chat you hear and he either genuinely didn't know, or wasn't giving anything anyway. It's during the International break so not sure that a shadow Dons squad would be much of a draw to the people of South Wales.

As for the other stuff, thanks, although this presenter is clearly an idiot, as anyone who has to suffer being in his vicinity at games will testify. However, the other two are good lads and yes, we've been blown away by the willingness and generosity of our guests to give us some of of their spare time to talk to us shambling amateurs. Without them there really isn't much of a show.

Enjoyed the Super Kev interview, comes across as a cracking fella.

A number of years ago, what I'd guess 2005-ish, I was in an Inverness watering hole that i used to frequent, one Friday after work.

I can't remember if it was off-season or if we just didn't have a game that weekend, anyway, I'm sat imbibing my post-work beers when into the boozer walks Super Kev, Ryan Esson and a young player whose name escapes me now (got freed early, never really made anything of it).
It was round about the time that Esson and said young fella got freed I think.
Anyway, the three of them had just pitched up in Inverness for a lad's weekend....they'd all had a few (though Kev was probably soberist).

Kev was just a decent down to earth guy.
Ryan E was a wee bit off, I think he'd just been told he was done at the end of the season.
But the the three of them were all fine enough guys, happy to blether away to an exiled Dandy.

Ironic that two of them signed for ICT.

Glad you liked it, sir. Luck is a factor that gets ignored because we like to put more causal factors under the microscope - understandably, we talk about the manager or out-of-form players first and foremost. IMO we are strong at building on luck when it goes our way - in other words, if we get a dodgy pen or a flukey opening goal, we tend to take advantage. Nevertheless, we haven't had too many breaks our way of late, and we've not found the dig to win regardless. We were very good at still winning games in which we were pretty unlucky last term. We are capable of it. We're just not quite doing it right now.

It won't take much to turn this around. In many ways, Fir Park is the perfect game for us. A winnable game against a decent side. We have the players and IMO we have the manager. It just might take a penalty or a lucky break to get the ball rolling.

We're now called Here We Go! (which apparently doesn't mean anything AFC related to anyone under the age of 30, but we're stuck with it now) and you can find all our shows old and new over here: https://afcherewego.podbean.com/

You can find us on podcast apps or within iTunes by searching for 'Here We Go', all the back catalogue from the ByTheMin days should be at the link above, most of it is obviously obsolete chat on a given week/game, but there's some decent guests peppered through the shows. We're also on the social medias @AFCHereWeGo

Alright, gentle spamming over, I'll let you get back to arguing with yourself again.

When’s the ‘McInnes is a boring b’stard who’s stagnating the club, the support & life itself’ podcast? :)

Latest podcast with Sportsound main-man Richard Gordon getting to talk about the reds without the threat of hearing Allan Preston or Chic Young.

Find the episode here: https://afcherewego.podbean.com/e/the-sorbet-to-wipe-away-the-unpleasant-taste/

Or any iTunes/any podcast app/Spotify by searching for 'Here We Go!'.

And just a reminder, if you were subscribing to us before, you'll need to re-subscribe to get the new shows as we've changed podcast hosts.
