To quote Derek McInnes "hunners".

A slight exaggeration, but with sheep1903's Blue Lamp/Tunnels gigs, Blues Rock Aberdeen's growing roster (Devon Allman and Laurence Jones thus far), the mighty Glenbuchat Hall's carefully-chosen acts and my mate Hinnerson's house concerts, it's a bonanza year coming up, starting with Gordie Tentrees at the Lampie on 5 February.

This O/T sh!te is ruining this forum, worse than it actually is.
It means theres just not enough intelligence to talk about footballing matters relating to the Dons.

Only O/T threads should be limited still to footballing matters but those not involving Aberdeen

From my very personal and non influence opinion

How hard is it to skip past the O/T threads

That would be ironic b0!!0cks would it not.
Create an O/T thread to moan about O/T threads

How hard is it to skip past the O/T threads

Not that easy when about 50% of the threads start with O/T.
It makes the site woefully awful

This is a fitba forum, lets keep it to fitba.
O/T should still be about fitba but non Dons related topics.

If you want to discuss cooking habits or knitting patterns, **** off to sites designed for those

COME ON YOU REDS!!!

Pacman1903
05-02-2016, 01:36 PM
Its nae just a fitba forum though is it. It used to be a forum for Fitba speak and nae just AFC related (Stand Free Forum)and an Offtopic Forum for knitting patterns etc. These two have been merged now into a single forum because the site had redirection issues and all the offtopic users were getting p@ssed off. I dont know how often you were ever on the offtopic but theres alot of radges used it and it was good craic.

So it is a designated anything goes site now. Ill stay put. Maybe stick up a few more O/T subject. Hopefully Term can start a world cup.

You obviously have a problem with this which is fair enough as each to their own but dinna put your complaints on an O/T thread that is highly active and used by many a user who just get on with the new set up. Ed winna see you complaint and im sure most on it couldnt give a f@ck.

Its nae just a fitba forum though is it.........

Why didnt you speak up when the merge idea was mooted.

Fair enough, the Forum has just significantly deteriorated then (IMHO)

Also 50% is over exaggerating to prove a point. There are 30 threads on the front page and only 10 offtopics

It wasn't an exaggeration prior to the Celtic game, finally threads are back on topic as a result, but it seems now the move will slowly ebb back to a higher O/T ratio

Just bought tickets for Nathaniel Rateliff at The Barrowlands in Nov.
Never been to the Barrowlands before.

Had my eyes opened first time there, we headed straight to venue to get our bearings & thought we'd find a nearby pub. I thought I was on the Falls Road, it's like pseudo Ireland, bars with grills & RA graffiti etc. I'd found the Glasgow I'd heard horror stories about as a kid. We headed straight back to bars in centre sharpish.

That said, for a dive, it's a cracking venue for gigs, especially foot-stomping types.
You've to wipe your feet on way out but aye perfect size & pretty unique IMO.

Been meaning to check out Rateliff since hearing him for first time on Later last year.
My highlight of the series (felt programme had dropped off but thought much improved last time out, more back to basics & artists not bringing their own bloody tour stage).

Barras is great. Ive seen a few beauties there

Slayer in 2000ish was awesome, full venue mosh pit going on. The most insane thing i have seen/been part of, still to this day.

Rancid around 2 years ago was phenomenal too.

Carcass a couple of years ago was also phenomenal.

Its a sh@tehole but its a great sh@tehole and the wachty foosht smell just adds to its greatness.

I also like the tinny table at the back. Spent a few quid there over the years.

Exodus Tunnels 27/2/16

When i heard Bay Area Thrash legends Exodus were playing Aberdeen i was so excited a little bit of pee came out and to think they were playing the Tunnels made even more pee come out. I have pretty much been excited since the day i booked PacBro and my tickets.

Turned up half an hour after doors and it was f@cking rammed. The busiest ive ever seen the Tunnels in maybe twentyish visits. Support band Lost Society sounded pretty decent, bits of all Thrash bands of the past heard in their riffing. But it was all about the main event.

I saw Exodus about four years ago in the Garage in Glasgow but Rob Dukes was on vocals, that man could not lace returning frontman Steve "Zetro" Souzas sweaty boots. Zetro makes this band a completely different (better) beast. Soon as they hit the stage (i was now in a position to see the stage)it was cacophonous breakneck brilliance, with constant moshing created by new tunes from the latest album, "Blood in Blood Out" includi

Never seen Exodus nearly seen em back in 89 when they played Glasgow but it was that or Anthrax at the Playhoose so I went to watch that instead.

They are a class band but went a bt awf the boil with Force Awf Habit and some off the Dukes stuff is nae that braw

They are on a big list awf guid thrash acts I never saw as they never toured Skotlund or I couldnae get time awf tae travel doon tae see em

Death Angel, Flotsam & Jetsam, Metal Kirk, INC, Faith Or Fear, Over Kill, Dark Angel,VoiVod, Celtic Frost (aroond the time awf Pandemonium) all spring tae mind. Ken Over Kill are touring later this year but doubt i'll make it.

Braw review min did they no play Last Act Of Defiance or Cajun Hell they're brutal tunes

The Cult- Music Hall 3/3/15

My only previous viewing the Cult was 15 years ago at the Glasgow Green Festival and they blew every other band away that weekend so was really looking forward to tonight. Im also a long time fan of Billy Duffys guitar style, Astburys also a very under rated singer.

Support band Walking Hands, not bad musically but the frontman was a bit gash

The Cult as expected were decent, All the big classics including "Lil Devil", "Fire Woman", "She Sells Sanctuary" "Love Removal Machine" "Wild Flower" and more. A few new eens too (album already purchased on return to Pac Towers). Decent gig, im guessing it was a sell out. Glad i was there. Back on to Astbury he doesnt half talk pish between songs but he makes up for it with his singing capabillities. Definatley one of the best singers in rock atbthe moment.I also never realised who was on the drum stool these days. Heavy Metal journeyman tub thumper John Tempesta (ex Exodus, Testament, White Zombie, Helmet)

Nae sure how many times I've seen the Cult now, last night wasn't the best, but it was a rare old night.

That was the best humour I've seen Astbury in, he's aff his heid at times, but right enough he's got some voice.

Loved the new stuff, the latest album is up there with the best they've done, but the old tunes won it for me. Phoenix, Spiritwalker and Nirvana were fantastic.

Glad the Aberdeen gig was sold out, band seemed genuinely appreciative of that. Hopefully it winna be 29 years till they come back the next time.

As for Tempesta, he's been around the Cult now for 10 years, considering the Cult have a 'Spinal Tap' attitude to drummers, he's done well to last this long. XD

I was a bit "meh" after last night. When they cranked it up they were at their best, there just wasn't enough of that for me.
They seemed to have quite a lengthy mid gig lull, even the boys in front of me that were going mental at the start

Overkill, Classic Grand, 8/4/16

What a line up. Overkill supported by Vader. Two legends i have never seen. Pretty busy affair and couldnt get on the raised walkway for a decent vantage point. Being 6ft 2 and a bit definatley has its advantages.

Polands finest Vader come on stage much to my delight and play 4 songs and " thank you good night". Turns out there was another support that went on stage and had no power for twenty mins so Vader gave them part of their set time. Nae amused as i was well up for seeing them. Special mention to their drummer, he is a f@cking machine.

New Jersey has brought us Springs****, Bon Jovi, Skid Row but f@ck them all,Overkill piss on them. Another of the thrash pioneers Overkill are definatley due legend status. Singer Bobby "Blitz" is old as f@ck, had strokes on stage, beat cancer but is still at it and is still powerful as f@ck. An hour and 40 they played for with tunes like Armorist, Blood Money, Blood and Iron, Horrorscope, Nice Day For A F

Interesting set list from Dublin, a few wildcards in there, he played the Holy Trinity (Jungleland, Thunder Road, Born to Run) back to back.
If that's ever happened before it was an age ago.

Back in your Arms and Lost in the Flood made their tour debuts.

I have to say, I was well up for the full album River show, not sure how it would've gone over in the stadium environment, but in all the times I've seen him, I've never seen tracks like Point Blank, Wreck on the Highway, Drive all Night played live.

It caused a stooshie when he announced he wasn't doing the full River shows in Europe, I'm not doing multiple dates this time, partly a financial decision but partly because I thought it was a River album show.

Well up for Hampden like, weather

Tickets were "only" about £75. But by the time they'd finished with add-ons, came to about £86 each. The handling charge is bad enough, and I don't mind paying postage, even when it is exorbitant, but I left it last-minute to buy my tickets so have to pick my tickets up from the venue. For which they are charging me £3.50 for the privilege. At least **** Whittington wore a mask....

You say the game is a bogey.

For the venue/supplier
They don't have to employ ticketing staff.
The money goes directly into their account (less costs), they aren't paying the individual transaction costs associated with credit/debit card payments and so on

All in all at a time when a lot of smaller

InversneckieDob
30-05-2016, 07:26 PM
I understand what you're saying, but when you can't walk into a small venue and buy tickets for a show in that venue, to me, there's something wrong.
Also, I'd prefer the £2, £3, £4 fees that go to Ticketb@stard to go to the bands, venues etc.

I hear your point about the overheads, fees etc. but these things can be administered relatively cheaply these days.
And there are opportunities to use other local independent outlets rather than TB.

31-05-2016, 09:06 AM
The last two gigs I've been at Oran Mor, I've just turned up on the night and bought tickets. Maybe that's different as the last few tickets probably go to the venue to allow for walk up fans.

The game deffo is a bogey. I'm not sure the artists are that bothered any more. I always thought Radiohead were one of the more conscious bands. I know it's a different subject but secondary ticketing sites do my head in. There were tickets for Radiohead's Roundhouse gigs changing hands on viagogo for over £700.

Most of these big gigs nowadays sellout almost straight away yet secondary sites are selling them. Sites like seatwave are owned by Ticketmaster. That can't be right.

Pacman1903
31-05-2016, 09:44 AM
Those after selling c@nts are total c@nts. 99% of the time. A week after Donington tickets came out there were 5night camping weekend tickets for sale on there for 650 quid. The site are c@nts for allowing it and the sellers are c@nts for snapping up heaps of tickets.

Anyway good luck with that as those type of Donington tickets are not sold out and still on the go today for face 220 quid

But and theres always a but. I went to see Slayer/Anthrax in November at the ABC, didnt have a ticket as i was supposed to be offshore. Went on to Getmein and got one for face value and no add ons so it worked out cheaper as Getmeins fees didnt total what was originally added on. But that is an affa rare occasion. Obviously someone who genuinley couldnt make the gig

Gumtree is the best if you need tickets in my experience

As a fellow Boss attendee tomorrow, aye, he will be onstage 6.30 sharp seemingly. Makes sense if they want to chuck out at 10.

I think for the pit thing you have to be there really early and check in repeatedly throughout the day to prove you're really waiting. A couple of folk I know were at the Dublin gig and that's the system they had anyway, they had to check in at half 12 and half 4 and basically spend the rest of the day hanging around Croke Park.
You ask me, for a three and a half hour seat, I'd be queuing for a seat, nae a standing space.

Boss was pretty damn fine last night.

Few minor irritations:

1) We were seated in north stand and the sound was "patchy" particularly in the higher end stuff like the organ and piano. One of the things about gigs in echoey stadiums I suppose.

2) Folk talking to their mates during songs they didn't know ("ah only like the hits eh"). Feck off to the bar for a bit then and shut the fu(k up.

3) Two fuds deciding not to go back on the bus but not telling anyone beforehand, so the rest of us had to hang around for 40-odd minutes waiting for them not to turn up. (Bus tickets said the bus left at 2345, presume this was a default time from other gigs, so the driver and us had to wait)

I did the marathon pit Q from noon, worth it though, sunny day and plenty beers the day flew in.

Aye, went to see Mark at The Montford. Nae that many people in the afternoon, only about 10. Busier after the gig when he did his 'Elvis songs the Boss'. Cheesy as hell, but good fun after a few drinks !

The concert was amazing. Got a good spot in the middle of the park next to the soundboard. Much better than I got at Hampden in '09 where I got lots of echo. Nae problems this time, and nae queuing to get in.

Folk talking through songs annoys me at any gig, but why pay £75+ and not watch the show !!
This Hard Land was spoiled by people walking past leaving the show.

I'm nae a fan of stadium shows and I doubt I'd pay to see anyone other than Bruce in a stadium, but that was brilliant !!

InversneckieDob
02-06-2016, 06:37 PM
That's the problem with stadium "events" like this, some melts just want to "be part of it" and wouldnae ken Sandy or Point Plank if they found it in their soup. But if they can get ratted and sing along to Dancing in the Dark then say to their mates "I was at the Springs**** gig, what a session" they're happy.

Faaaaarks me right off, as do the "waiting a sunny day parents" shoving their precocious little brats forward and barging to the front to do it.

Just heading back from the Stone Roses. The sound was appalling & John Squire needs a wash but the sing along songs were good when you're drunk. There's an awful lot of Liam Gallagher haircuts in Manchester. Some would even say too many.

Was sitting with a squad of very obnoxious Man U fans before it started. Their whole conversation revolved around how **** City are. Anyway, after a few drinks they burst into song about City being a massive club. It's pretty good. It's just throw away one liners sung to the tune of Half Man Half Biscuits 'Paintballs Coming Home' (or he's got the whole world in his hands if you're a traditionalist) Stuff like 'They signed Spencer Prior on deadline day' etc

That would work very, very well for the victims...

Ginger Wildheart Band- 16/7- Underdog

Just in the door. Still smiling. David "Ginger" Walls is my hero simple as. The guy is just f@cking class. I must be approaching 30 times ive seen him in all his bands (The Wildhearts are on 15, that i do know)

The good thing about his solo gigs is you dont know what to expect when you see him as every gig is different, sometimes no interaction, tonight there was, sometime alot of Wildhearts, sometime the biggest hits of his career, always different . His band tonight was Denzil (long time drummer with his solo stuff), Conny Bloom (guitar, Electric Boys,SG5 and Hanoi Rocks) and Toshi(Antiproduct). Only 4 Wildhearts tunes (including Suckerpunch :D )and the rest a career spanning show including tunes from Ginger and the Sonic Circus, Silver Ginger 5 (Sonic Shake :D) and Solo albums. Decent mix with a few rarer heard tunes. No "Black Windows" though which was the only downer Denzil is wicked on the stool. Best drummer hes worked with id say. Underdogs a decent venue, good sound and if you get one of the steps at the side(which i did) a good view. Was driving so was on the cokes so didnt partake in the wide array of Brewdog beers which is probablly a good thing as i can remember the whole night.

Didnt want to start a new thread, this one seems appropriate. Does anyone think that Aberdeen needs a small, intimate underground club night (deep / tech / prog house) that's all about the music? Kind of mid 90s Pelican vibe? Dark, not too many lights, couple of lasers and a fog machine :) Big sound, full of clubbers not pissheads?

No, there's a market for this in Aberdeen. UnderDog (underneath BrewDog in the old Athaneum building) are doing a good job in trying to bring something different to the city's nightlife. We want to bring a proper underground dance club to the city and a percentage of the takings will go to good causes. We've had a lot of good feedback so far :)

Nae my cup of tea, in fact its as far away from my cup of tea that there is.

But if there is a market for it surely somebody should be taking advantage of it already or do you reckon people are missing a trick and you are trying to fill the gap.

Also, Underdog is tiny, must get sweaty affa quickly, and the punters must get pissed affa quickly on the potent beers

Good luck with your quest, hopefully you get something. (I winna be there though, ill be at home listening to Queensryche)

There's a couple of places in Glasgow doing this but you'll be lucky attracting a young crowd, does tend to be 30s. In fact I prefer it being a slightly older crowd.

A band that have never quite made it but they plug away. Seen them and enjoyed a few times in the past. Tonight nae so much, too many slow tempo tunes. When these guys rock they f@cking rock. Nae so much tonight. Bit dissapointed. Some of the new tunes nae to my liking

As far as hard rock guitarists go hes one of my favourites and i wasnt missing him and his f@cking excellent chops in Aberdeen. As for the band i knew a few tunes from litening to KNAC and i knew Marco Mendoza(Ex Black Star Riders, Ted Nugent and Right Said Fred, aye you read that correctly) and John Corabi(ex Motley Crue and Ratt) are in them but never really paid much attention. Turns oot these c@nts are right up my street. Some great tunes, great riffing, even the covers they did were great,Fortunate Son and Helter Skelter especially. Before i knew it they had finished. A sign i enjoyed it immensley. Special word on Brian Tichy(ex Pride and Glory and Slashs Snakepit). That guys skills on the drumstool are phenomenally tight. Very good drummer, me and my pal were well impressed. Also was fair chuffed when Aldrich came out in the crowd and did his thing infront of me. Anyway away on to Amazon to get their back catalogue

Not sure how many he uses through a night but i can guarantee his pedal boards huge. Steve Mason @ The Art School - Decent 7/10
Sleaford Mods @ ABC - Mostly unfamiliar set but still good 7/10

Noticed that Pac. Nae that much of a surprise. It's been on a slippery slope for long enough. The new site didn't help but music wise it has become a festival for neds and nippers. They've alienated the people who made it the festival it was. It's probably better they rip it up and start again. Something based in a city park akin to London's Field Day might make more sense.

I used to love it. Went to the full thing for 7 years. Seen some amazing bands there - NIN, RATM, Mogwai to name a few but in recent years there has been nothing to make me want to go back.

As you get older you realise there are better festivals out there that are cheaper, with no bams and with better line ups.

Yeah, I agree Skacel. I've still to sample it ut Latitude always seems to have a good line-up. Go further afield and Rock Werchter in Belgium is one I'd fancy.
