Reading about Hulk Hogan in the news recently made me curious as to the fortunes of previous Superstars of the old WWF and new WWE.

I maybe shouldn't have been suprised but there have been a lot of deaths from heart conditions.

Look at thes below. Superb athletes but tragic lives. Most dead in their 40s

Macho Man Randy Savage, car crash caused by suspected heart attack

Ultimate Warrior, heart attack

Big Boss Man, heart attack

British Bulldog, heart attack

Legion of Doom, Hawk, heart attack

Rowdy Roddy Piper, heart attack

Mr Perfect, drug overdose

Ravishing Rick Rude, heart attack

Sad but perhaps not suprising that they all died so young.

I used to be a fan of the wwf back in the days of the wrestlers youd above ( I was only 8 or 9 and thought it was real XD)

But if you look back at their interviews on YouTube then it doesn't surprise me that they all died of heart attacks, you can see

It was a lot to do wi' getting addicted to painkillers; messed up their organs. There's far less of that these days but, since guys canna work as much hurt anymore, aboot half o' them are oot injured at any one time.

On an unrelated note, I would have fully expected Hulk Hogan to be US President by now. He would have sorted these ISIS guys oot! Especially wi Hacksaw Jim Duggan as VP. USA! USA!

It isn't really that surprising when you discover what the business was like in the 80s and 90s. Most of the guys who ended up in wrestling were working class hard b*stards. They would be on the road for most of the year. Substance abuse was the norm. Steroids were (and possibly still are) rife. Search for some Youtube clips of Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, Jim the Anvil or the Nasty Boys - guys are obviously coked up when they do their 'promo' interviews. Injuries would exacerbate the problem - more steroids to recover more quickly and more recreational drugs to cope with pain or depression. It's hard to find a pro wrestler from that period without any personal demons.

On an unrelated note, I would have fully expected Hulk Hogan to be US President by now. He would have sorted these ISIS guys oot! Especially wi Hacksaw Jim Duggan as VP. USA! USA!

People forget that Hulk Hogan single handedly won the First Gulf War!

No I don’t think so,it’s on Sky Atlantic but I’m sure you could get on YouTube or something.

Mean Gene is one of the guys that gets interviewed about André the giant, apparently André hated the Macho Man and would go out of his way to hurt him in their matches.

Stumbled across it and not the sort of thing I would usually watch but me and the Mrs were hooked.

As you said it was very good, pretty sad really how his career/life ended, chewed up and spat out by the company. Seemed to be some genuine emotions shown from those within.

Certainly worth a watch even if you aren't into big sweaty guys throwing each other around a ring to the millions watching.

I can name a few cricketers aswell and have zero interest in that either. What a topsy turvy world we live in eh.

Wrestlefest? That was brilliant.

I loved WWF in the early 90s - interest seemed to peak here just as it was declining in the US as I think European audiences preferred stars like Bret Hart and the British Bulldog over Hulk Hogan. Bret Hart claims he was swarmed by fans whenever he came to Europe. If you only ever watch a single pro wrestling match in your life, you can do worse than the Hart vs Davey Boy Smith match at Wembley in 1992. Apparently Hart had laid out the entire match to Smith a few days prior but the latter decided to go on a cocaine binge notwithstanding that he was going to win the IC title which was going to springboard his singles career. Hart claims that they locked up in the ring after the bell rang and Smith spoke in his ear "I'm f00ked". Hart still managed to guide him to a career defining match. Unfortunately Smith never really shook off his daemons before his death - a tragic story of unfulfilled potential.

Attitude era was pretty good too, especially 99-01 when The Rock and Steve Austin were the main stars. Lost interest after that.

Nasty Boys v The Rockers in the first match was quality entertainment. Earthquake v Big Boss Man was decent too

The 20 man battle royal at the end was superb. Rowdy Roddy Piper gunning for Ric Flair, British Bulldog eliminating Typhoon to win and Earthquake coming in to batter BB. Then Andre the Giant comes in and smashes Earthquake and Typhoon with his crutch.

Quite a range of things.
Oot playing with my mates mostly. We used to have competitions against other streets.
Football, murderball, cricket, American football.
Else we’d be playing other things.

On the telly it was wide ranged, loved Monkey magic at one point, liked old classics like Laurel and Hardie, Harold Lloyd etc.
A-Team was a classic as well as The Dukes Of Hazzard.

I get the wrestling for kids, like I said, it’s easy to buy into the hype and be duped when your young and naive, but as a grown man / woman, hopefully you start to see the truth and reality of it all.

I’m not sure as I don’t watch it anymore so don’t know what the logo looks like.

You seem to know a lot about wrestling for someone who claims to have no interest in it,who is the champion these days;)

So you know that there is a wrestler called Gentleman Jack and that Vince McMahon owns the wwe?

That’s impressive for someone who posted earlier that they have no interest in wrestling XD

You’re clutching at straws.

1)I’ll google Koko B Ware
2) Google round me Gentleman Jack
3) I didn’t say Vince McMahon owned WWE. I merely mentioned him as he was the first comment or on the YouTube clip I googled and linked.
4) Not having an interest, does not mean I am not aware. I’m aware of many things. I grew out of WWE / WWF before I hit puberty

So to recap you have know interest in wrestling but,

You decided to look on a thread that is titled wwf or wwe wrestlers.

You know who Vince McMahon is.

You managed to find a wrestler called gentleman jack in 10 minutes.

As aldo always says you are trying to spin too much plates at once and contradicting yourself.

You know who Vince McMahon is.old fcuker, been around a long time. Commented in the YouTube clip I linked. What’s your issue, because you like sweaty wrestlers too ;)

Googled koko b ware and then some bizarre character that was similar to infer it’s you, given you said you were like koko b ware

Afcmad will have no interest in that sort of thing but I’m sure he will still give his opinion on it and have a fair amount of knowledge about it through his super fast fibre broadband XD

Well afc1903mad, I don't think I've ever had a go at you for your opinions on the dons - which makes me probably the only one on the forum - but come on tae phvk: are you really going for a "It's a' fake!" role on this topic? FFS...

Thanks. Everyone knew that in the 19th century, but cheers anyway. Theatre is not a difficult thing to understand.

Donald Trump is the president of the USA. If that doesn't illustrate how 'real' pro-wrestling is then I don't know what to tell you.

Btw we've had a famous Jack, Rico and Pac in the last few years o wrestling (nae to mention Aldo in mma). Forum fatal 4 way please!

Not everyone, some think it’s real ;)
I get theatre and I mentioned that pantomimes were better than WWE.
I just don’t get why grown ups buy into the “theatre” of WWE.

Was Anton Newcombe a wrestler?

Oh look over the horizon, you can just make it out in the distance, that's right what this thread initially started out as.

Anyway in a similar vein to the wrestling program/Andre the giant.

Walk on intro's. What was your favourite?

Undertaker's was superb, I remember playing the megadrive game back in the day andI'm sure the million dollar man had a decent song too.

The greatest. HBK

Never quite took to Michaels notwithstanding that he was unquestionably an incredible performer. Preferred Bret Hart's 'psychological' storytelling style. His two matches with Curt Hennig (Summerslam '91 and KOTR '93) were two of my favourites as a kid.

HBK putting Marty Jannetty through Brutus the Barber Beefcakes shop window, was one of the greatest moments in the history of sport. The Montreal Screwjob was class as well
