..even though they will now lose the right to stage the Open. Silly old buffers

Incredible in this day and age but having seen and heard some of the old buffers on tv there's no hope that Muirfield will progress from the 20th century while they're involved in decision making.

they may need to "get with it" but they shouldn't be bullied into it.

Why not Millertop?

Good for them for making a stand.

Having said that I would be happy if there were all women clubs.

Set the joining criteria and pick whether or not you want to join.

Avoid mind control at all costs.

Why not Millertop?

Because we are suppose to be a free country to a point, I don't like dictation.

Should have avoided that shorthand course then

So a private members club being told it has to have women members isn't dictation?

If they don't want women that's up to them.

I think you and they will find it's not

The club hasnt made any sort of a stand.

The club committee recommend they should have women members and the majority of members voted in favour. They just couldnt get the 2 thirds majority.

In effect a few hundred bigots blocked it.

If you have been behind a group of women playing golf you would back muirfield

Why not though deep ???

Surely it's there right to vote how they want.

Deepmidwinter
19-05-2016, 07:45 PM
Right Pocket, so, if as well as deciding to prohibit women from membership, they also decided that membership should not be offered to Jews, blacks, homo***uals, people with ginger hair and anyone under the age of 70, would they still have the right to vote how they want? Sometimes, in what they see as their own best interests, people vote for something that is so alien to decency and common justice that it quite rightly provokes a public outcry. Now this decision may not be reversed next week or next month, but reversed it will certainly be.

Didn't say I agreed I'm just saying that if that's what they want to do then surely that's there choice to vote on what they want.

avondalemiller
19-05-2016, 08:04 PM
....but they haven't put Jews, Blacks and Homo***uals to the vote. for all we know some/all might be members now. So to twist it is a bit unfair.....

Pubs and clubs have always had the "we reserve the right to admittance", ....if a big bruiser on the door doesn't like the look of you....you're not getting in or an explanation.

Lol I didn't think it would be long before the thought police rolled out the "bigot" jibe. Always appears when somebody makes a stand against their "life rules" XD

mellowmiller

What about the *** Discrimination Act?
Doesn't it apply to golf?

Lol Jolly I didnt put the bigot jibe in by accident. It cheered you up though. Youre too predictable.

Im glad the R&A have exercised their 'life rules'and booted them out and hope the Scottish Golf Union do the same.

And, re slow play. Do they have an official timing for what constitutes slow play? Will they be baring old men who walk too slow or low handicappers who take too long over putts? Not likely. It aint about slow play; they just dont want women on their course.

Deepmidwinter
19-05-2016, 09:11 PM
Well, I certainly hope they don't start baring old men - there'll be a few of us on here not looking a pretty sight!

millertop
19-05-2016, 09:11 PM
if it was a council/ community run club then that would be understandable but it isn't.
It should be up to them if they want women or not, they should not feel pressurised into it.

Deepmidwinter
19-05-2016, 09:16 PM
They don't know what pressure is - but they will. If this decision is not reversed within 3 months I will sell 50/50s in my underpants

avondalemiller
19-05-2016, 09:21 PM
I'm sure they must be private "Gentlemen clubs" in London which don't allow women in either........these's places are "Private Members Clubs" and basically do what they want. No doubt it's only entry by an invite....nudge nudge.

The committe recommended they should allow women members and majority of members voted in favour. It was a minority that managed to block it.

No ones putting pressure on them. They have just lost the right to host a golf major and lose all the revenue associated with hosting the event. Entirely up to them.

I'm sure after 3 months they'll be plenty of pot washing and dusting that needs doing so you could be right lol

So telling them they won't be able to hold the open because they don't allow women isn't putting pressure on them that voted against? :/

Deepmidwinter
20-05-2016, 07:24 AM
Of course it is. And quite right too. Rory McIlroy came out and said the vote was a disgrace.

Who are we to disagree with their ancient gay rights?

If they don't like women and just enjoy the company of other men leave them to it.

Rotherham Foeffees have just elected the first female Chair in it's 427 year history. So here's one set of old buffers setting a good example at least

Yes there are some, London also has some women only clubs.

One of them in Belgravia is very select and expensive.

Don't see much pressure to force them to take in male members (that doesn't sound right does it XD )

CAMiller
20-05-2016, 04:00 PM
There's a joke in there about taking male members in through the back door but I can't remember what it is?

Careful CAMiller the injunction covering those two "celebrities" has been upheld here.
