How Welsh is the Wales team?

Heard a lot of stuff about how the Welsh team is actually English and investigated, here is the squad:

So that's 14 out of 23 who are Welsh, the squad is therefore 61% Welsh.

As for the team who beat Belgium, 8 out of the starting line-up were Welsh, so that's 73% Welsh.

Out of the 14 players who played against Belgium, 9 out of 14 were Welsh, so that's 64% Welsh.

The 3 scorers against Belgium were all born in England, therefore 0% Welsh.

So there you have it, the Welsh tean are more Welsh than people are saying, certainly more so than a lot of ROI teams over the years.

It is also based on the simplistic assumption that nationality is determined solely by country of birth.

What if you moved to the US where your child was born and raised to be a passionate England fan. They've supported the England national team, and become good enough at sport that they get to choose between the US and England - they choose the latter, despite never having lived there. Isn't that their choice and how it should be?

Whilst some of the Wales players no doubt supported England and would have chosen the England team given the option, there are others who will have been born in England but identify more with Wales.
