And a green final please.. 20yrs later I'd be on the front page imagine that :O

We used to get an extra fiver if we wanted to deliver the green finals. I used to fill my paperbag with them and go straight round to the recycling bin O:) Go home, wait for half an hour then go up to see if they wanted any more 'delivered' for another fiver.

Sorry to go a bit off-topic especially with my work ethic towards paper rounds but what's with the kids these days doing their rounds with their folks? I see their mum or dads waiting for them outside the shop to drive them around. Or in Inverurie I see loads with their folks carrying the bag for them. I ken they were heavy as f*ck especially on a Friday but if I asked my mum or dad to do that I would very swiftly be told to get f*cked. I'd actually rather it was a new H+S directive rather than todays youth just being lazy little sods.

Anyway, as you were.

Friday wisnae heavy,

Now Sunday, that was a c'unt

Aye I got a job in the 60s delivering papers on a Sunday for the paper shop in Byron Square .
The paper bug was that heavy I used to get the bus from the shop for 2 bus stops lasted a couple of months only because I fancied a very pretty lass at the time who stayed in one of the houses in Northfield.
The green final was a superb paper used to get it every Saturday when young buc got home we it my older sister used to take it from me as she was going to the palace she would stuff it in her bra.. I was confused with that..:?

Mind you that was a different era they now have padded bras I suppose :)

Well I used to get 3d a day pocket money.
But with a shoppie downstairs it certainly didn't stay in my pocket for long.

2 penny icicles and a penny's worth of broon sugar to dip them into was always a favourite.

A quick word about the golden cup.
It tasted MILES better that it's big brother, the golden cup bar.
Must have been made with the same stuff.

Aitkens Bakery when at School for a bag of broken biscuits for 10p, you thought you had died and gone to heaven if you got a bag we the toffee shortcake cut off in it. Dinner was a small bradie and a half pint of milk.

Paddy's ice cream van, or the IRA bomber, depending on the news, for cones, ice cream sodas or 10p mix ups. I don't think I ever bought a proper bar of chocolate from him, that wasn't for the kids. My brother, who was working, used to buy a large tub and a flake, fecking show off, and crumbled the flake up and mixed it in the ice cream, this was long before McDonalds sold the same thing.

Byers and Billie Woods for Beanos, Dandies, Beezers, Chelsea Whoppers, Golden Cups, Sports Mixtures, Cola Kubes, Midget Gems, SPlicers, Whams, chocolate cups, chocolate fitbas, flumps, coo candy or any other shoite which had too much sugar and artificial flavourings in them but were staple part of my diet for years. Billie Wood owned the shop beside the Blue Coral Chipper on Balnagask Road and was a god fearing man. he used to cover all his stock up in thick clear plastic, so you could see it, but couldn't steal it.

The best times were when the meters were emptied and my Ma would give me a 50p, which was a fortune back then, unparalleled riches

I agree they should bring it back. Buc, theres a cracking video of two ladies nostalgically sharing a bar of Golden Cup and reminiscing about how good they were.
If you Google 'Two girls, one cup ' you're sure to find it.

Always a fan of Spangles - which has a whole new meaning these days i guess. :(

Pacers were umm, mint inna.

Favourite treat was fresh pea pods fae the fruit and veg van that used to come round once a week though, awwfy fine.

Pretty sure the entire reason for my lefty leanings was the phasing out of the 1/2p though. 1/2p chews became 1p overnight. Wots that all about?!? Sweeting power cut in half, just like that? B'astard capitalist shopkeeper pigs..

Cool cups, weird cooking chocolate with a strange "cooling" after taste.

Kwenchy cups. They were fine, too cool to use a straw though, everyone used to chew a little hole off the bottom corner and drink it that way. Could go one right now actually.

My first ever apprentice was addicted to bags of bones.

I doubt he would be posting on here though because he was a hun.
He was a catholic from Braemar.
Did you know they had segregated primary schools in Braemar?
Must have had 3 kids in each school.
