Frequented as a young man/lad
Early ****s was the beach ballroom dancing on a Saturday night 1973-1974. Walk round the dance hall and look at the nice looking lassies .

Left school there it all started D I S C O..

Used go to the the Lodge top end of union street fantastic happy disco sounds ..

Travelled around Scotland winning prizes for my disco dancing skills.

The Manhattan on the Clyde just off Glasgow city centre was the real in p!ace at the time ..
The owners must have thought they were Scotlands answer to New York's Studio 54

The bouncers at the door would select who got in or not if you were ugly yes the blokes included you were told you weren't getting in.

No prob!em for the Gorgeous Buc :? I didn't look like this all the time .

Even Paisley's Valentinos 1& 2 was I deed very popular .

So what about you lads ..

Im actually still frequenting the same places as i did and they are all still open all these years later which is good because alot of pubs come and go.

Pub wise, alot has changed as i dont live in town anymore but when i am i still go to the same ones that i have for years. Pittodrie Bar, Prince of Wales, The Moorings, Wordies, Mither Tap and The Butchers Arms. But in recent times ive been also going to The Wig as its Pacbros local

Club wise it was never my scene, if i want late night drinking its Drummonds or the Moorings

A special mention to Glasgows Bier Hall, Solid Rock Cafe, Snaffle Bit, Nice N Sleazys, Rufus T Fireflys and The Box which are the usual haunts when im down(which isnt as much as it used to be with Pac Jnr on the go). But i make sure i head to at least two of them when i am down

Most places I drank in from my late ****s onwards are long gone now.

Usually ended up in the Metro in Saltcoats every Thursday and Friday night, had some fantastic times there. :D

Ray Montgomerie is a good mate so nowadays if I'm out in the area I tend to have a couple of pints in his pub, it's not changed much in 20+ years.

Being born in Glasgow. The Rock Garden on Queen Street, Chimmy Chungas on Great Western Road, Oblimovs on Byers Road. All gone, but many, many great nights in these back in the day. Almost forgot Fury Murrays for the dancing.

Babbitty Bowsters still in the Merchant City along with Rab Ha's and Blackfriars.

Was in the Prince of Wales during the summer, still a cracking pub.

I missed out another pub i used to frequent for watching fitba and also with Mrs Pac during our courting and living in toon spell. The Highland Hotel. Decent pub too. Very good for the fitba with the free food at half time. Been a while now though

Edit- i remember going for a sunday roast there with Mrs Pac and the chef was putting a new ham out and it fell off the skewer thing landing in the juices in the tray coving Mrs Pac in it. Funny as f@ck. Had to hide my laughing that night. They paid for her jacket to get dry cleaned and we got our food free too. Worth the greasy soaking

Underage wise it was the cavalier (afore boogaloos) and the bells.

Town days the Belmont,Jamies,Tamels and Tatlers. Never a fan of nightclubs but mostly went to the one in the old Rosslyn sports basement but its name I cannot recall.

Locally wise it was the Don View or Parkway.

The Egg and Dart was a favourite for hanging out, even though it was a drive from where we lived.

Weekends if we ended up in town it ranged from:

Gabriels
ZigZags
Cotton Club
Franklins
Henry J Beans
Barnies
Ministry of Sin
Video Plex
Betty Burkes

I dinna miss those days at all.

My god houston, that's a fair list of s'hite pubs.

The Hay Loft was carnage before The Palace, bodies flying down the stairs.
I only ever went to the Palace about half a dozen times after I started work ( jan - feb 1975)
Wasn't really my scene man

First pint in the Crown, Elgin aged 16.50p a pint
Progressed to the White Horse, Newmarket, the Golden Pheasant, and dance the night away at the El Cid, or Bishops.

In Aberdeen it would be the Belmont on a Saturday afternoon , maybe the go go place down the Adelphi (Kim circa '87, ooft),followed later by Henry Js, Buzz Beez, Ma's, and Cafe Royale, Ritzy.Though often headed down to Dobbies Ale house, or the Moorings to check out the bands
Happy days

First underage beer was in the Hawthorn closely followed by by second underage beer which was in the Malt Mill.

Egg and Dart was a good een for those weekends when you were still at school, almost old enough to legally drink but not quite. Along with the old Albyn at Queens Cross where the Clydesdale Bank is now.

before the fitba it varied, Belmont, Star and garter, there was a phase of Henry J Beans for doubles for the price of singles pre match.

The Venue was the 'club' of choice, normally tied in with the Drift inn, Freelands, Tilted Wig (Welly Boot)

Ritzys on a Monday, Caesars Palace, Fever on a Sunday night.

Cafe Royale used to be an after work haunt for a good while as well.

Ahhh...good times.

Aye that's her. My good pal Steve was the drummer at the blues jams down there. She would come on during the breaks. Very nimble.Used to wear this all in one skin tight lu
Lycra suit with circular view holes all the way up the sides :O
If you were ever at the jams, we may well have drooled at her, if you didn't endure me guesting on drums.
Those jams often started off quite tamely but usually descended into a drunken shambles by the end.Jerry Jablonski first burst onto the scene here.

Good times

Underage drinking my first was aged 15 in the pittodrie bar during lunchtime ..

The other was the smallest bar in Aberdeen down near the docks called the Jug if I mind right aged 16..

That bar was the size of a standard livinroom . But it was a good one i would love to go to a bar like that again .

Best i could find Buc

That picture is from the door which is in the corner so that pic covers the full length. Its rectangular.Use the bar stools as a yard stick for length. Between the barstools and the wall long ways there is a doors width pretty much to the left of the pick there is room for a 4 seater table. Nae a big place.

When i was 15/16 i mind drinking in the Belmont Bar on a Saturday afternoon. I went for a piss and the cubicle was out of order. When i was mid stoor i noticed some c@nt peeking out the cubicle at me. Bizzare behaviour. Drank up and left. Bloody bog dodger

The Jug, the bar built on to the Prince Regent.

The snooty wifie who owned it asked me one night when she deigned to pour beer for us in the bar, said, “I know you from somewhere. Were you at school with my son?”
“Nae unless he went to Keith Grammar” was my reply, “But I deliver yer hotel laundry every day”. She looked as crestfallen at having to speak to a working class drunk as Margot did in The Good Life when there was a rumour that a co-operative commune was buying a hoose in their street.

[Thread only revived since I searched for forum drummer Elginred to get his view on skin skelper supreme Charlie Watts’s death].
