With the season coming rapidly to an end some interesting and predictable rumours have already started, here's a few.

Barry for Villa...This will please Bongo, we are rumoured to offer him a 2 year deal?

Kodija has wiped his face book and twitter account leading to rumours he is about to be sold and does not want to give anything away!

More worrying is the Rumour doing the rounds today that Tony Xia has run out of Money, the gamble has failed and he is looking to off load his club and cut his losses!

All in 'news now aston villa'

Oh and Gabby has earned a new 1 year extension?

The silly season has started already.....any more?

bongosdad

Gabby has one year left. No point extending it yet unless he earns it next season. We paid 15m for Kodjia so unless we get silly money I can't see the point selling. We don't need to sell either and I don't believe the rumours about Tony.
I hope it's true about Barry. He's exactly what we need right now and will probably be our captain again.

According to an article on News Now Villa or Boro are favourite to sign Tammy Abraham on loan from Chelsea. If true that would be good.

Not sure if the link will work.

I can't see Barry staying another season with Everton. His game time will be limited more next season so it perfect timing to come back.

Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham (born 2 October 1997), more commonly known as Tammy Abraham, is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bristol City in the Championship, on loan from Chelsea, and the England U21 football team.

Scored 23 goals at Bristol City (whilst on loan) from 41 appearances and whilst playing in the England 21, 19 and under 18 sides he has netted 9 from 21.

He is 6'4 and if my maths is any good, he has scored more goals than Gabby this season, and has a better strike rate over our Bingo rated better Villian players.

"He's got a big important summer, Gabby," added Bruce. "He's coming now into the last year of his contract.

"He's got to for the first time in years earn a new contract. I hope he grasps it.

Well looks like Bruce has an obsession with Gabby, so Kodjia only has to score another league 20 goals next season and carry the rest of the strikers again.

If were honest Gabby has turned a few games around when coming off the bench. A fit Gabby would destroy most championship defences. He got the bit between his teeth now and Bruce gave him a new lease of life. Spot on man management. Bruce isn't obsessed with Gabby, he's just giving him a chance. He's done everything asked of him under Bruce so why should Bruce reward him. It would be daft to ignore a fit Gabby. He's no world beater obviously be he could and I think will be a very good championship player. Even if he doesn't start he a good alternative for Grealish if he's playing craap like against Blues. Like it or not he was the best player on the pitch. It's up to Gabby now to keep doing it and prove people wrong.

I always think back to the third game in our final season in the Prem, when Gabby got himself through on goal only to completely miss kick the ball like a 3 year old playing for the first time.

Instead of grabbing the lead and maybe 3 valuable points we ended up with no points and on a downward spiral

I've said before we need a team full of grafters and fighting for the cause. I'm sure this season will be much better, we only need to find one little jem to turn it on. The last time we went down the club was a shambles said Sir GT he didn't spend much basically cos DD would not pay up but we bought in a certain Mr Platt and ge ripped tge division apart and we got promoted. He cost 200k and some people said what a waste of money, how wrong they were!

I agree freer but not all the signing flopped. Chester Kodjia Taylor Johnstone Adomah all did pretty well. The Viking bloke in midfield will be good next season along with Lansbury and Houraine. Hogan and McCormack have yet to provide any value so far and I would be tempted to off load them both and get crouch or Gayle. Proper strikers you know what your going to get from.

Despite the club spending over £36m on strikers last season , a lavishness no other Championship team afforded our total of 35 goals was pitiful

Crouch is one dimensional- we need a much better doctrine than “plan B” of lumping high balls forward & Crouch isn't that solution- he ain't in the first flush of youth either Bongo

As for Ashley Young joining Aston Villa word on the street is Steven Spielberg has offered him a role as diving instructor in Jaws V http://www.animatedimages.org/data/media/179/animated-diving-image-0011.gif (http://www.animatedimages.org/cat-diving-179.htm) Unsportsmanlike Tw@t !

I see no reason why he would not want to sign for us and finish his career just like Jedi but at 31, maybe he has 2 more seasons in the premiership left in the tank. IF he leaves utd then a return to Watford would be my guess, that's where it all started for him!!

Sadly we parted company with Craig Gardner at at time when we lacked combative midfielders he also offered cover at full back –his time has gone & his form in decline so lets place that idea in the trash can eh ?

Why not give Hepburn-Murphy, Andre Green, Jordan Lyden, Keinan Davis & the impressive Harry McKirdy some proper game time -rather than throwing shedloads of green backs at players other sides are off loading ?

Do you actually have a sustainable option ?

Or is your long term strategy enlist ex Villa players looking at topping up their hefty bank balances http://www.animatedimages.org/data/media/510/animated-light-bulb-image-0027.gif (http://www.animatedimages.org/cat-light-bulb-510.htm)'cause if so it ain't very progressive is it Bongo ?

My strategy cost under 10m

Crouch Barry Young = promotion

We might as well go the full hog and bring Delph back too. That's 4 top players for about 17m

If we sell Sanchez 2.5m
Vertout and Gil 9m
Amavi 10m

It's ample funds to buy these players.

I don't mean 'Young and Hungry' youth but younger players, I'm always of the belief that we should buy players at the age of 27, this seems to be the peak age but looking at 31, 32 or older, can they last the pace in this crazy league?

I thought everyone knew about that?

I just don't want us to go around and around in circles buying players that just don't cut it. I want proven quality not potential. Spuds buy players under 23 in general and sell at 27 for a fortune. It's good business but we need that balance. Buying older players also means lower fee. We could have Terry Barry and Young for about 6m. In there prime it's 70m worth of talent and all still play premier league football.

This bid for Stokes looks like its going to happen and Maybe we will have to spend all our pocket money (1 million) to get it over the finish line but if this the Calibre of signings then don't expect any big names down VP this year.

Obviously we need to get rid of several Names who will demand a few quid but other clubs knowing we have to sell will mean we will probably save more on wages than obtaining a substantial fee?? that's a big problem for Bruce.

It also begs the question, what if no bids come in or that they are so low they will not be accepted, can we force the likes of Vertout and Gil to play in the Championship?

It all kicks of in 3 weeks time and i'm sure all the rumblings and agents are already at work. Don't hold your breath.

Forgetting we probably be promoted. Add Ledley king to the list were in fine shape. The right signings would transform us.
This isn't a popularity contest. JT is loved by Chelsea fans and would probably be loved here too if he got us promoted. We need leaders right now not mamby pamby players. Jedi is a a prime example of the type of player we need. Chester will be a better defender next to Terry.

We should have retained players who wanted to play for AVFC

Gary Cahill- don't need Terry

We should have kept Barry (Bannon) – he's been outstanding for Wednesday for the past couple of seasons

Kept Marc Albrighton Aston Villa fan instead of potentially forking out a fortune on the Diving Diva

Jonathan Hogg too hastily discarded

Steve Bruce desperately needs to rethink his/our modus operandi, its glaringly obvious that even if we sign another shed load of “whoever's”- if we want to be anywhere near the top of the table this term- Villa can’t continue performing the way we do.

We need to get our youth ready to play so we don't lose Albrighton, Bannon, Cahill and Hogg.

Personally I think freer missed the nail completely. Terry has been a world class player for years and had nothing to do with who he played along side.
It's like saying Barry is only any good because he played next to Gana last season forgetting he was quality at City and villa.
Ok Terry might not be the player he was but I can be confident he's the best defender in the championship and that's not taking into consideration his leadership skills.

Totally agree Dave, we need to hit the ground running and that will only happen if we buy proven quality. I'm all for playing youth and I hope green starts most games next season. But it's getting the balance right and last season proves we are unbalanced. Baker and Johnstone will improve playing next to Terry and so will Chester. It's a no brainer.

Strange how some folk have short memories or do they simply alter their opinion in anticipation of Terry signing ? re: racist remarks/comments made by John Terry, must be some truth to the allegations wasn't he was stripped of the England captains armband ?

As for his affair with a team mates wife you'd need to speak to Wayne Bridge about the effect that had on team spirit within the dressing room at Chelsea ?

As for Terry whatever he's won in the past it was as a component in a hugely expensive squad of top international players - which does help doesn't it ?

He could be the catalyst for promotion campaign

Or a huge financial burden if we flounder around in mid table

He has some extraordinary chemical attraction http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/kisses/smileys-kisses-348936.gif (http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/) towards non functioning strikers

I recall Bongo foaming at the mouth on about A V F C playing Hesky at centre half

Wonder if we could try Agonawol in goal ? – it wont reduce his goals per game ratio if he was the sticks would it ?

He doesn't want to play against Chelsea, be in a relegation battle, he wants to stay in England, still at a big club, good owner and a manager he respects. Were linked with John Ruddy. I would be happy with him or Johnstone. Ruddy would be a great signing and probably better suited to get us out of this division. However Johnstone will become a very decent keeper long term for us so it's hard to pick.

samhubball

I don't think we will get Johnstone. He is easily premier league quality and apparently a few clubs are in for him. Would be nice to be proved wrong. As for Ruddy - he is quite prone to errors and a typical championship keeper. If we want to be one of the better teams in the division I think we should look elsewhere. I said Stoke city's Grant now Butland is back. He did alright at Sampson Villa last year :)

Bring Gollini back and give him his Italian keeper coach. It is just for the season anyway as we have decent prospects coming through and we will get good money from him after he looks good behind Baker/Terry/Chester all season.

bongosdad
05-07-2017, 06:58 AM
To be fair Gollini didn't do much wrong. Changing managers when we did didn't help matters. Although I rate Johnstone higher than Gollini just about, we lost conststancy at the back when we were starting to keep clean sheets. The change of keepers didn't help.

I know what you mean but just have a little think about what having (until recently) the England Goalkeeper between the sticks and the former England captain centre half leading the Lions out onto Villa park in the championship. With a striker up front who should have got 20+ last season and a few young and talented kids. Not to mention some of the best players poached from around us (Lansbury, Hourihane, Chester). Oh and the RR from the Leicester team who won the prem after winning promotion with them from the champion ship.

If we get off to a good start we will have mentally beaten he opposition before the ball has been kicked.

Get Hart if we have any chance it would be the biggest coup of the year

TrianonDave

Well bookies shortening odds at 4/1 and maybe because it's a loan deal. Would get Hart back in the UK and no complications for man city as they do not want him playing for a premium side so unless he goes abroad, we are a good option especially with JT on board!
I would prefer hart to Jonstone but to be honest either would be very good for us!

Andrew Green needs a cracking not Crouch, chipping in is not what we need, we have got 42 million of so called talent in Kodija, Hogan and Maccormack.these guys need to be rotated and kept fresh with a total return of at least 50 goals between them or you can forget promotion!

Get Sam in and a solid MF and that will do, we shold then concentrate on getting the deadwood out.

Green is on the wing so crouch won't effect his progress. I think Green will have a good season and I really like him. He seems to have his head more screwed on than Grealish and he's a lot quicker.
Crouch experience will help the likes of McCormack and Hogan if there partnered with him. However the arrival of crouch would probably mean one leaving.
I also think Gabby will have a good season if he can stay injury free.

For some reason I quite like Gabby and I really hope he has a good season in any role SB thinks fit for him. At the end of the day he plays for Villa. But you have to admit Bongo his goal return for a striker over the years has been pretty abysmal. My hopes aren't high. #Ross Mac...last chance but is a very clever player, if he gets his head together he will become a very good squad player

#Gabby....the Enigma, has failed to show for his beloved club apart from 10 mins against the sha for the last 4 years but a good start pre season, looks fit but boy oh boy he has such a lot to prove, he is in his last year of his contract and will be looking for an extension. He will not cut it at any other club so has to prove himself this season, may be the surprize package, if he is we will all be saying sorry to our Bongo!

#Hogan....Well like so many of us, wanted him in as his youtube clips looked fantastic, built like a brick 5hit house, big things are expected of him, needs an injury free season and SB to play a system that suits him.

before we know it, we will be 6 games in and hopefully these 3 will be banging the goals in while we have the Koj chomping at the bit. Could be good, we all could be right and be winners.

The goal against the blues was a huge monkey off his back. Even if Gabby doesn't start he will be useful off the bench as we saw last season. His goal scoring record is poor I agree but I think we judge him to much on the past few seasons where he was fat and complacent.
If we were pushing for a European spot j wouldn't really wasn't Gabby here. He's simply not good enough but at championship level he will be great for us.
I get a lot of stick for defending Gabby but Bruse has done exactly that too.

Regarding my spelling I'm not that bothered. It's the quality of the content that's important.

I'm hearing Jedi out and Johnstone in? The later got to be true but Jedi? Does that mean a bid for Barry is on the cards?

Johnstone has signed another loan deal

I sincerely hope Bruce ain't contemplating sacrificing Jedi in order to sign Gareth Barry

When we need to see a game out( & if we are to pick up points the way Steve Bruce sets us up they'll be plenty this term) Jedinak’s the guy

I don't think Bruce won a game without Jedi in the team. Selling him would be stupid and with the Jedi being injury prone and able to play centre back there is room for Barry and Jedi.
