Really thought the locos would have a decent season, particularly after a decent pre season.

Took the junior Nimrods to the Fortmartinks v Locos game today. Smashing atmosphere but a few more results like that and Locos will surely be looking for a new manager

Against 10 men for half an hour 3-o at the time

I see you have become joint most expensive rip off entrance fee c@ntswith Brora Huns at 9 pound. Robbing f@ckers ;D

Stuart Duff got sent aff in the 88th too which didn't affect the flattering score line. Locos are pish anyway.

was at the vale v wick game. thought the home side lacked belief but a great second goal gave them some and they got a deserved win after a dodgy disallowed goal. quality abuse of the ref and lino followed which is always appreciated 😁

will watch aberdeen, turra and the vale this season depending on opposition...gives me a few options.

There was a horrendous image of a slack-jawed, single rotten-toothed, pish-stinking, trooser-fumbling throwback in a blue "Carling" deid*******s' top cheering a Vale goal in the Psephologist & Jism the other day. I took a Nitromors-heavy wire brush to several of my brain synapses after seeing it, to attempt to erase the image.

Think Brora burnt themselves oot playing Raiff the other night. 3-0 was in no way a true reflection of the game 5-4 would've been mair accurate. Surprised to see ex Don Lennox actually make a save or two as well.

Signed Dale Gillespie fae Brora who i always though was one of their best players, they signed a few ex Caley and Elgin boys too

The sh@te trinity at the bottom is now a sh@tey double act. Strathy to come bottom. Worst team ive seen in the league

Anyway nae bad considering they got a winding up order 2 years ago and had to resort to signing welfare players

Bizarrely last season they got a fair percentage of their points away fae home

The HFL is decent. Theres Wick, a decent squad for a few years looking really poor, Rothes picking things up, Huntly looking nae bad and will take alot of points they wouldnt have before. Almost invincible last season Buckie dropping 4 points in first five, Locos looking worse than las season (Brora was a good result though), Brora lost. 2 already. And Fort and Strathy being sh@te as usual

No, I expected it to be off.

Our next one will be though -Fort William away, at the time of year when the Caledonian Canal diverts via the Claggan Park goalposts.

Last night's game was switched to Grant Street (and who the **** wants to go to the Ferry after dark?) since Lochaber's under water until April, and last Saturday's fixture with The Entitled Paranoid Hoops (Banffshire branch) was called off.

Long midweek trips for meaningless games in Spring 2018. Ach.

Too high on the contours even for the Mississippian majesty of the Isla to bring broon troot to the centre circle.

Maroons are on the west side
High upon a ridge
Just about a mile
From the Isla’s Union Bridge

The Golfie Burn, nemesis of more than a few cross-country runners in my schooldays (Chuck getting everywhere today), is the nearest major water course, but only Garonne-like in comparison to the Broad Majestic Shannon* Isla.

Choo talkin 'bout Willis?

Since our last trophy win in 2013 (on the 30th anniversary of the Dons' victory in Gothenburg, if you please) the squad has been raided by sugar daddy-enriched clubs paying unsustainable signing-on fees and wages. Keith also lost its main sponsor last spring when Fithandel went under due to the oil and gas downturn, and I believe that meant the club didn't get its agreed end-of-season payment which had already been ear-marked to fund pre-contract signings (Pennet from Banff, a Locos defender, Leask from the Broch and more). The manager left and is now back at Maud. Because of the financial situation, experienced players were snapped up (eg Ewen to Huntly, Milne, Cormack and Baker to sugar daddy-bailed out Rothes, Barbour to Spain Park) and most pre-contracts remained with their current clubs.

With Stuart Duff and Deano turning down an offer made to them to take on the managerial/coaching roles, the club turned to its U-18 coach, Ewan Robb to take over, but this hasn't been a success, as he was left with around 4/5 experienced players in Cammy, Bruce Raffel (currently on the long-term injury list), Donnie Fraser, Hutchie and Ralton). The rest are kids, and it's been their inexperience, despite their enthusiasm, that has cost us dear, with regular errors leaving Keith with an uphill struggle from a couple of daft goals down.

The club is apparently skint, and there is no Gary Farquhar, Richard Forsyth, the Brora mannie, or Atholl Cadger on the horizon.

We will have to persevere with the loons, and get the best from them - some have great promise - and see what other revenue opportunities are accessible. However, with the Pittodrie experience, from the cost-cutting, achieving a workable wage to turnover ratio, to where we are now, with attempted big spenders like Dundee, Motherwell, Hearts and the blue ****s all having been in administration, and that beautiful day in June 2012 when the huns were liquidated, I'm certain that clubs being the plaything of local businessmen is extremely short sighted and limited. Clach went into administration, Nairn took a hefty hit in summer 2016 when Narden pulled the sponsorship plug on them, yet have survived and are playing good, honest, Proper Mannies' Fitba.

So, those days which you opine are long gone, may be on their way back, as the looming recession that leaving the EU will bring, and the oil price stays stubbornly under the profitable $70/barrel reduces input to the temporarily-moneyed clubs, and the playing field levels out (not Harmsworth Park, which is built on the scarp slope of a Caithness escarpment).

Believe it or not, in my 53 years as a Maroon, things have been worse, and although there are tough times ahead, I'm confident we'll come out the other side in good financial and playing shape.

Thanks for the info Vintage, although would you not be happy to accept a "Sugar Daddy" as you call them.
All your successful teams, no matter what league, are at the top, only because of money.
I know Keith as a fantastic history, in fact, I was asked to play in a cup final one weekend as the team was so short because of injuries. That was when Bruce Martin was there. Just can't remember the year, possibly 84,5 or 6. But they managed to get a team together.
Good days then.

The slope was so bad at Tarves that even in good weather, if you got a penalty shooting downhill it was bloody difficult to keep it below the crossbar.

Were you getting abused by web footed, cousin sh@gging Deliverance types

Funny you should say that.

Having put their winger up in the air a couple of times I thought it was a good idea to call the "crowd" a bunch of f'uckin tuechters.

Abuse wasn't the word.

They were our derby match. Used to love winding them up. Some decent battles between the two of us. The whole village(i.e family) used to turn out

I've never understood why the Highland league don't play in the summer. They have a gazillion games postponed every winter.

Perhaps I'm being ignorant to those who watch and or follow Highland League football but what is the point of Fort William being in this league? I think they won 3 games in a row a couple of seasons ago but they always appear to be rank rotten.

They applied, were voted in democratically, and so have every right to be there. I think the decision to allow them in was to get a geographical balance once the two Inverness clubs disappeared along with Ross County. There was also hope that the catchment area of Lochaber would support its local club, but it looks like they prefer to get on buses to Glasgow for their fitba, or prefer shinty.

Donly MacLeod, the Grantown Jags main mannie said that shinty was a huge competitor for them when I interviewed him on their election to the HFL in 2009.

I can also remember Buckie, Deveronvale, Brora and Huntly being the whipping boys for seasons on end in the 1960s and 1970s, and they’ve been successful (the ****ing objectionable ****ers) in their own manky, sleazy ways since. ****s.

Anything can happen. Brora used to be f@cking awful and have recently won the league twice. Rothes were f@cking awful and are finding their feet. Cove used to get pumped 8 - 0 by Peterhead and are now the best team.

The Fort deserve to be there as do any club in the division. The Forts a great day out. The Wifey that does everything at the Fort was a lovely helpful wifey, the Forts, ground is one of my favourites in world football.

They are seriously hampered by location as its not a football area. It canna be easy

They also reached the North Of Scotland Cup final last season despite being hampered by shinty

Et voila.

Welcome back Jamie and Mugsy. Good luck to Deano.

“New Management Announced:

Cheers vintage and as Pac says canna be easy. Yeah any time I've been up it appears that shinty is the main event but also that everyone seems to support one half of the gruesome twosome and leaves every week on a bus for there. Just wonderd about them and how they survive as their travel costs to fulfil fixtures must be pretty high. I assume though that a lot of their players will work in the Aberdeen areas.

So the sponsorship dries up, the best players leave, that utter **** Ross Jack ****s off, and the promoted youth coach, tasked with developing a pool of young talent decides the job’s too big and leaves too?

It’s becoming an all-too-familar process, and there will be more.
