Surprised no one has put a thread up for this.

Root getting a great 190 on his captains debut and England accumulating 458 after an uncomfortable start with 47 for 4.

South Africa replied with 361.

England 2nd innings currently 48 for no loss (145 runs ahead) trying to endure the first 2 strike bowlers in Morkel and Rabada as South Africa have lost Philander having to go to Hospital for an xray on his finger which is just bruised.

Off for Tea now.

Lol! We just don't seem to do cricket unless Lancashire are in the frame!

I like cricket so happy to chat.
Great last wicket stand with Jimmy and Broad in first innings and Jimmy gets two important wickets, so definitely a Burnley angle too.
SA will be sick they dropped key players and messed up their reviews. Broad would have gone for 4 and Root was dropped early on in his 190.
Looking good and one of their players banned from next game after swearing took him over the limit ( I don't know what I'm talking about here - but what's new!!)

My one and only wicket in the Lancashire League was the Colne professional way back in 1964 when playing for Church during the holidays as a 17 year old. I later joined the RAF and played some good cricket! lol

After my time in Colne but was that Gallash?
I remember Bill Alley Ray Flockton Jack manning and best of all Stan Jayasinghe who was there in 1959 when we did the league and cup double.

It was Gallash. I was the scorer for Church when Stan Jayasinghe was at Colne, he was a godd cricketer and a nice bloke.

I remember witnessing Clive Lloyd's Lancashire League debut at Haslingden.

They had to station two lads on Bentgate auction to chuck the balls back!

Brutal was not the word.

I played golf with Clive at Baxenden GC some years later, he had this daft windmill style golf swing and he hit the ball miles!

Great bloke too!

It was Gallash. I was the scorer for Church when Stan Jayasinghe was at Colne, he was a godd cricketer and a nice bloke.

We may have met then, as I often used to work the scoreboard at the Horsfield.
Stan had a Russian wife so they made a striking couple in the days before immigration took off. He brought a friend over from the then Ceylon who also played for Colne. Often then the only non white face in the own was the cricket pro.
Stan had a short run up but whipped his arm over so fast the ball shot off the pitch quite low and he took lots of wickets. I modelled my bowling on his style - not quite as successfully. He also scored 1000 runs faster than Everton Weekes with the ball often hitting the houses in Keighley Road. He left to play for Leicestershire.
My dad was friendly with Bill Alley who was another nice bloke and I met him in the Blackpool CC changing room when Colne played a friendly after he left. Then he went to Somerset for years playing into his forties and then became a County and Test umpire.
One of my school and play mates on the Horsfield was Andrew Kennedy who went on to open for Lancashire. Happy days playing in the shed on the Horsfield as they didn't let you play on the pitch.

Aye, we seem to be finding it difficult to score this morning because they are bowling well and four quick wickets will have boosted the South Africans.
Although Morkel has taken 3 wickets I think it will be the spinners who will figure highly before this match is finished.

Morning/Afternoon Sub.

Yes and the pitch is misbehaving also which is not helping, if it carries on South Africa could be in trouble when they step out to bat, hopefully.

As you say, 63 for 7 in 25 overs, not very inspiring, however, we shall see whether our bowlers can step up to the mark when SA bat.
There should be a result one way or another which is good from a 'series' point of view.

Interesting game in the Womens' World Cup with Australia needing to score 260 to beat England. They are now 96 for 2 at the halfway stage

Done and dusted in 4 days, SA finishing on 119, England win by 211 runs, a good win with the only sticky patch coming in England's second innings, 1-0 England :)

Joe can be well pleased with that. First time we have beaten SA at Lords since 1960.
We have had a fair share of luck in this match which could easily go the other way in the next match, however, I think that this will prove to be an interesting series, although it is a shame that Rabada has received that harsh ban.

What a hugely different two innings from our very own Joe Root, 190 and then 5. :O
That was an awful 2nd innings collaps by England and thankfully S.A werent at their best at all. None of these test match playing nations will ever match the excitement of when Australia come over here for the Ashes!

Btw Alto, who did start the Word of the day thread ? Hes asking for a custard pie in the face whoever he is lol.
