As a ****ager I was in the Smethwich end whilst Ozzy smoked a fag and took swigs from a pint of bitter a fan had passed him.

He chatted his way through the half with everyone behind the goal.

What a magic person he was.

Who remembers QUIZBALL. Flippin great prog in its day. John Osbourne was brilliant at general Knowledge. The rest of the team hardly contributed much as Osbourne carried Albion to the final against Forest in 1968, but i don't remember if we won it or not.

Anyway Here's a photo

I think that was a later year. Before that all I can recall of our team was Ozzy, Doug Fraser and Percy Thrower. We lost(?) to Arsenal (?) in the final (?) who had a right clever dick in Ian Ure. I remember Doug Fraser having no idea where the Granite City was. Answer being Abeerdeen from where he joined Albion. I think it was 1968

Quizball was introduced by......?

I wasnt sure if we had won it in 68 but sure enough we did. We beat Forest 2-1

For the record, the Finals were as follows :

1966-1967 Arsenal 7 Dunfermline Athletic 3 1967-1968 Nottingham Forest 1 West Bromwich Albion 2 1969-1970 Celtic 3 Hearts 1 1970 (Champions Series) Celtic 7 Everton 5 1970-1971 Derby County 4 Crystal Palace 2 1971-1972 Dunfermline Athletic 3 Leicester City 1

That was in the days when fans and teams had a connection with each other. Human passion and the like kept us all grounded. Players like John Osborn and others from that era....well knew it was they that were honoured to play for a club.....Today...most of the honour has gone...not old sentiment...just a fact of life.... They earned as much or a little more then the people who watched them.......again not so today......
Classic photo of a bygone era......

Great photo of a great character. Sad irony considering the way he died. Same with that picture of Jeff heading the ball against Fulham. A picture I really liked as a kid was of Derek Kevan in an attacking pose and the ball heading in the direction of the camera.

Thanks Tone - he was one of them very UNfunny comedians

He was ok just the once like one hit wonder bands...I liked his joke about the parrot that was the wrong colour so he bought the bird and a can of paint...they told him the paint would kill it, but after a while he went back and bought a different can because he was fed up with the birds present colour...again he was told the paint would kill it...but off he went...three weeks later he's back in the shop..."my budgies dead"..."we told you the paint would kill it"...."it wasn't the paint it were the blowlamp"....and that was about it for Freddie.
