I see that we are supposed to be putting an improved bid in, possible going to £500k. I do think he is exactly the type of player we need to bring the best out of Fleck, Coutts and Carruthers. However if the next bid is rejected we should move onto new targets. He is not worth more than £500k.

Could be B58, but Sarfend's fans are saying it's strange he's not travelled like the other players out today have as the game isn't far.

We should know soon enough anyway, owd perma-tan is going to explain all after the game it seems.

Ahh right, who knows then, let's hope we'll know one way or another when Brown does his PM.

I'm getting board with it all TBH, the last time I got hooked on a saga like this we ended up with Hammond.

If he is moving for the sake of his career and wants a manager that will improve him, its BDTBL all the way. If is missus wears the trousers it's Millwall, man or mouse ?.

Now saying he's withdrawn transfer request after talking to Chairman. Time to move on. Southend chairman has a reputation for over valuing players and losing out in the long run. Having said that shows if you really want a player to stay you don't have to cave in to the first offer received, Mr McCabe take note.

Some lessons for us to learn on negotiating for players. The first bid of £250k was too low and no doubt pissed off Southend. Its taken us a month and 3 bids to get to £500k and yet we've now apparently gone out and put in a first bid for a player of lesser ability at Oxford for £500k as a starting point. Can't help thinking if we'd done the same a month ago for Leonard, before Dack was sold for £750k and the Walker sale, we'd have got this deal over the line by now.

We must be fairly decent and have some idea at this buying players lark,we have successfully bought 5 this summer,I say carry on trying to get value for our money

Feel the same about this - we seem to have done some pretty decent business this summer and not spent a lot - we're not going to succeed with every target but at least we're not paying over the odds from a position of weakness.

We need to be getting this over the line now. Otherwise lets move on. Seems silly for the sake of 250K.

Agreed. We either rate him enough to spend the dough or we don't and we move on. Simple for me. Also the players being mentioned if we don't get him are not getting me excited at all. I cant see us going for Reeves. Not good enough. Lundstrum...jury would be out for a while.

Surely there must be a midfield gem festering in Manure, Chelski or Arsene Wenger Fc's Squads???????

Social media is awash with wannabe managers who think they know better than a man with 20 yrs experience and who has never been sacked and always left clubs and squads in a better state than he found them,I've taken to asking these experts how many promotions they have to their name and without getting any reply I'll say I'll trust the man who's been there and done it then

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Aint that what a forum is for? People will have diff views on players coming in and out of the club.

Well well! The plot thickens

The Independent reports:

"But Leonard is still determined to leave Southend, despite the chairman’s claims, and he has not withdrawn his transfer request."
