View Full Version : My views on today's Palace game.

I missed the first 15 minutes in which Evans went off with an ankle injury, not reported to be serious. Palace scored their first from a free kick, straight through the Albion 3 man wall which broke. Seemed Livermore was the main culprit.
Their second goal came from a deflection that left Foster flat footed.
Surprisingly most of the game was played in the Palace half. Both Rondon & Rodders seemed reasonably sharp. Phillips was the stand out player, creating most of the good things we offered. Chadli was quiet with one or 2 highlights.
Around the hour mark several substitutions were made. Leko & Robson-Kanu replaced the 2 strikers. Neither made an impression apart from one bit of trickery from Leko. Phillips went off so the midfield became less a force with McClean & Field coming on. Field was notable only for his anonymity. The sub who did make an impact was Roberts. Looked quite a handful. Maybe playing in the lower leagues last season helped that.
Kane Wilson came on at left back and looked solid, also pushing forward well. Darn sight better than the Wilson we endured at the end of last season.
McClean, looking very blond, was his usual aggressive self.
No sign of Morrison. Injured again?

Thought Morrison and Gareth were left in the UK to continue their fitness fight in time for the new season. Maybe I have got it wrong.

Think Morrison on compassionate leave

Ten seasons of watching Morrison has sent me on indefinite compassionate leave!

Hey Mick (and any other fan on here), what about this suggestion from the C.Palace manager that your team deliberately set out to injure Wilfred Zaha. :?

Its funny how Tony Pulis played it down and kind of suggested it was nothing!! :D
Isnt it amazing though how we can all see things differently when it involves our own team and our own players etc.!!

I read that acido on teletext.

Looks like another manager like klopp who wants us to lie down and let his team walk all over us.

Btw the way Acido I got to give you my utmost respect for the way you handle the disgraceful bullying you suffer at the hands of that dingle s cum bag (you know who I mean), the latest episode being last night.

I like the way, you too, have him dangling like a puppet.

Good luck for the new season and I hope your tykes take 12 points from our "illustrious" neighbours!

Sigh....
Anyway, Zaha got hit a few times by Nyom but he is a clumsy so and so , and Zaha was okay, may have a bruised bum from hitting the deck. Yacob may have caught him also, he went through most of the Palace team picking up a yellow in the process.

Wrote a detailed match report for yesterday’s game only to be thrown off the site when I went to preview it  . Hey ho. Anyway, a few quick thoughts instead.

Watched parts of the first half and most of the second. Felt we played some decent stuff at times but just weren't clinical enough in front of goal. Equally I have to say that Speroni displayed far greater agility at the age of 38 than our own Boaz Myhill in last year’s FA Cup aged 34 :O . Wilson did well but I believe the thinking within the club is they're looking to loan him out for a season lower down the Leagues for a bit of serious game time and to get some knocks in. I do like the look of Sam Field though and feel both he and Wilson have the potential for very decent futures within the game.

My concerns are for Leko. While technically very adept and with speed to burn he lacks general game awareness. Given he was not loaned out last season I genuinely thought he should have had more game time, especially following the injury to Phillips, as his tactical awareness will never improve without opportunity. That said I think he looked to be playing more within the team pattern yesterday than I have witnessed on other occasions so who knows? Send the lad on loan, if not then play him for at least the final twenty minutes of games so he can affect play and develop his game.

Like the look of Hegazy, a real unit with a touch of unpredictability about him. He could recover his position quicker though and hopefully he'll sharpen up a little with more game time. Have a much better feeling for this signing than I did when I first watched Lugano. Good to see Yacob and Nyom snapping into a couple of challenges ahead of the new season too. If De Boer thinks they were heavy handed with Zaha yesterday (which I don’t think they were) then he's in for a shock when the season 'kicks' off for real ;D .

For me the big thing about Honk Kong is that other than a slight ankle turn for Jonny Evans the squad has come through pre-season unscathed. Roll on the new season and COYB B) .

I said before leko should have gone on loan last season, it'll improve his game and most importantly his confidence.

Bambino's time at Northampton (except the injury) and Peterborough was the making of him.

Re hegazy, I wrote on another thread he's passing is great but his positional sense needs improving, which shouldn't be a problem under tp.

He needs to quickly get used to the shove that took him out the game for the Leicester goal.

It's a shame that neither mods removed glm's "paki" rant posts recently.

But, I'm sure like his dingle pal newcy wolf, he too will deny it ever happened.

If you had bothered to read the post in the correct manner you would have seen that my rant was an explanation of how they stick together...emphasising that it doesn't matter how big the difference looks to the naked eye underneath they are all the same.

Nearly forgot.

Liked the look of Rekeem Harper too, decent player for the future in there with a real presence about him.

Tyler Roberts looked lively as well.
