Barnsley are closing in on the signing of Blackpool midfielder Brad Potts,

Barnsley had identified Potts as one of their top transfer targets this summer as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new Championship season


Potts has impressed at Blackpool since joining the club from Carlisle United in the summer of 2015.


The 23-year-old was instrumental in helping Blackpool win promotion from League Two last season scoring one and creating the other in the 2-1 win over Exeter City at Wembley in the play-off final.

Potts scored 13 goals and contributed 12 assists last season for Blackpool to enhance his reputation as one of the best midfielders in the lower leagues.

Barnsley saw their opening offer in the region of £500,000 for Potts rejected by Blackpool at the start of the summer, but the Tykes have come back with an improved offer for the player.

Blackpool were reluctant to lose Potts as they prepared for life back in League One, but Barnsley have now met their asking price for the midfielder.

Barnsley are hopeful of tying up a deal for Potts in time for him to make his debut in this weekend's season opener at Bristol City.

Very pleased about this because I thought the lad looked very good in the play off final in may , I couldn't understand why we were pyssing about over 250k if we rated him that much .

Common sense prevailed .

Reading the Blackpool forum they don't think he's good enough for the championship. They reckon he found his level at Lg2 and was awful in Lg1

For me the best signing so far! If he can step up he will be as good as Conor was if not better? This lad will provide the ammo for the strikers when we sign them and chip in with a few himself.
These Midfielders will have to perform to get in the team with so much competition, but Potts and McGeehan for me will be outstanding if they can transfer League 2 form to the Championship?

I believe this lad has rugby league background so getting stuck in shouldn't be a problem.

If he wants some game time, could we also stick Townsend out on the wing and hope for the best. lol
