22-year-old full-back arrives at Oakwell on an initial two-year deal!

We can today confirm the signing of Dimitri Cavaré from French Ligue 1 side, Stade Rennais FC. He joins the Club for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract with a one year option in the Club’s favour, subject to international clearance.

The highly-rated young defender is a product of the RC Lens academy and was on the radar of Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye throughout the summer, becoming one of Paul Heckingbottom and the Clubs number one targets.

Standing at just over 6ft tall, Cavare showcased his talents to the Oakwell crowd in the pre-season friendly with Huddersfield over the summer whilst on-trial with the newly promoted West-Yorkshire outfit.

The former French U20 international has had an impressive pre-season and that was rewarded with him being offered opportunities to play in the Premier League, as well as elsewhere in Europe. However, he has elected to join the Reds after meeting with Heckingbottom and Ganaye, seeing their plans for the side over the coming years.

Cavare has both the pace and power required to get up and down the wings, as well as being able to track back and defend, adding all the attributes that Heckingbottom was looking for in his backline.

Paul Heckingbottom spoke highly of his 12th summer signing, saying, “This is a fantastic deal for the Club and I am delighted have to secured the services of Dimitri. Everything I have seen of him has really impressed me, as well as many other Clubs around Europe. He's listened to everything we’ve had to say and fully believes in our project here. Gauthier brought Dimitri to my attention and once we knew there was a chance of him joining us, it was a no-brainer. He’s come from abroad so we will integrate him into the Club and the local area, I look forward to working with him.”

Looking at him in the friendly- gets forward well- probably allows us the option to play with him and yads as wing backs with 3 CBs?

The squads starting to look very interesting. Who is certain of a start in the first team?
Hammill,Hedges and maybe McCarthy for me the rest of the places are up for grabs so they all need to be on top of their game because we've now got players ready to step in, looking good.

He can be an interpreter for Adam Hammill instead, and try to get some of that scouseness out of him. ;D

Why do we need French players. Are they better than the British ones? They certainly don't seem cheaper judging by the value of Thiam.

I don't know much about Thiam but I bet a similar British player like him would have cost millions. And that would be just from a lesser Champship club.

Team for saturday as it stands:

Davies

Mccarthy Macdonald Jackson Cavare

Hammill Williams Moncur Hedges

Bradshaw Thiam

Potts n' Pearson two of the week links dropping to bench and Moncur only starting due to match fitness over Mallan n' Mowatt in the creative midfield birth. As soon as we sign a greyhound straight out of blocks first to every second ball Williams keeps his place too.

We must of spent some dosh now Roma is that 14 signings? We've ample cover now. So much so that we're in need of more specialised signings such as another holding midfielder n' looking at possibility of players going out on loan.
