Everton FC's twitter page has it as their U23 team playing, everyone else seems to have U21.

I think someone should go through and check the age of their players to make sure they're not cheating.

PS and if Smudge can play I think Rooney should be allowed to as well.

1,409 in attendance, 88 from Everton. Wonder how the real figures work out at the early stages.

Will be interesting to hear how the new boys Hodge, Saunders et alias looked.

Seems as if it isn't that prescribed as they are the Development Squads:

https://www.efl.com/news/2016/july/efl-trophy-format-confirmed-for-201617/

"- Invited Clubs – 6 of the starting 11 to be U21 (as at June 30). "

So Rooney could have played!

A really good game, could have gone either way, in the last few minutes they hit the bar, keeper saved the follow up and the 2nd effort cleared off the line. They brought on a lad called Donkor, a big powerful forward with pace. Caused our defence a few problems and scored their goal. By the way all their drinks containers and training folder had under 23's on them

20k in the bank and a few players given extra match fitness, apart from that it is a sham and a disgrace which shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Nolan said that he would look for possible targets in this game, Donkor is the perfect choice for the striker problem. Big, fast and powerful. Although Forte had a great game, and did his chances of starting at Wycombe no harm at all.

I completely agree. Any extra income is always welcome, however these games are glorified reserve team fixtures at best and it's an insult to lower league clubs to play against these franchises of premier league teams in a competitive fixture. Only premier league teams benefit.

That was not Everton we played last night, just because they played in their shirts. Evertons first team squad has 27 players consisting of 3 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 8 midfielders and 8 strikers of which none of those players are in it.

They had 6 appearances in the Premier League between them, 5 from Luke Garbutt and 1 for Callum Connolly (1 sub)
