I've still got the Panini albums from 1979 and 1980 lying around somewhere.

I'm still missing the St Mirren team photo from the 1989 annual. Back when the Scottish league was equal to the English one. Saved up the tokens and got a binder and encyclopedia instead of the ball.

World cup year and they had all the previous world cups posters as stickers. Nice.

I mind it was bubble gum cards when I was a lad...... Panini stickers? New fangled malarky.
Tommy Gemmell sticks in my mind.
Woulda been, what, 71 or 72, I had a'body except Tommy Gemmell.
I seen a Tommy Gemmell card.......in the picture he was sat on a ba'.
Naebody ever had a spare Tommy Gemmell.
Weird fit you mind, I'd be pushed to tell you fit I hid for breakfast the day.

Oh, and when we swapped it went -
"Got......got.......got......HINNA........got...... ."

Only time I ever got close to completing a panini book was one year when I needed only 1 sticker and it was f**king Sally Mcoist when he was at Sunderland.

Was that the set where Joe Harper looked like he'd just shaved with a cheese grater?

Hardest, most brittle, most useless bubblegum in the entire world.

For some reason I seem to remember the card for Andy Lochhead -Burnley ( probably because we called him Andy Blockhead )
and the swap " Ah'll gie ye john Greig for Joey Hairper ". There are images of older cards online and I still inadvertently say "hinna ,hinna got it ,hinna" though my collection never survived the mid 70's. When you come across images of old cards you realise there were some real " beauts " and not in a good way

Cracking!
Trivia time.
Other than the boys listed as AFC and Joe Harper, by my reckoning 3 of the boys there played for us.......

Also, which boy there has a famous, film star, Dad?

I was obsessed with Panini books when I was a kid. It was either them or top trumps I spent all my pocket money on. My first album was in about 1976 with European club sides in it. Does anyone remember there being a cheaper rival? I think it might have been the 78 world cup where you licked the back of the stickers like stamps. Or am I just going senile ?:)

I was the same. Used to be able to rhyme off where the players were born & what the water displacement of the USS Nimitz was. Not the best preparation for later on in life

Oh I don't know Mason.

You can live in hope that someone asks you one day.

By the way, it's 24,901.8 miles round the equator.

I have no idea what it is in kilometres ( and absolutely no interest)

The excitement of buying them and ripping them open outside the shop only to discover the pudgy moustachioed face of Joe Wark of Motherwell staring back at you for the tenth time. If I close my eyes I can still picture him! The stuff of children's nightmares !

You may or may not be senile, but I collected that 1978 one as well, although it has gone missing over the years.

Also a cars one, from c1976, had all the F1 drivers and then sections with different makes of cars and badges. I cheated on that one by sending off what must have been like a 20p postal order to get the last couple I needed. Auto something or other?

Come on Sneckie, no one's biting on your teaser, put us out of our misery.

Oh it was fckg shocking but the original cards were the size of the old driving licence and had to be rubbed with a penny to reveal a black and white of Terry Payne of Southhampton (i think). Forget who he played for but it was always Terry fckg Payne
