I think it's just another example of the nanny state trying to censor the majority to protect the minority.

Hard to believe with all that's going on in the world that they have nothing better to do.

Good to see that your tax dollars are as hard at work as the vermin that lord over us in the US. Many of ours have never had a real job and are worth millions with lifetime pensions, healthcare and exemption from countless laws and regulations. They regard us as nothing more than serfs and common rabble.

Weird, Leeds have a gambling sponsor and I've not turned into a raging gambling addict.......maybe this isn't our biggest/a concern at all for the majority of people in this country. Love labour, but their need to censor the tiny things in society is unnecessary, a better way would be any gambling sponsorship 50% of that must go to grassroots football, that way club wins, grassroots wins and any clubs that don't want to do it thats their choice.

Not everyone who sees adverts becomes addicted, but it's fact that problem gambling has increased dramatically (and Labour were the party in power when deregulation was the flavour of the month, so they bear substantial responsibility).

Wouldn't mind a ban, as long as it was accompanied by other measures to limit advertising, maximum layouts, etc and make funds available to help those who do get addicted. There will always be plenty of sponsors willing to fill the gap (remember all the fuss when tobacco advertising was banned in F1 and it was suggested the sport might fold? Yeah, that was spot on!)

nonsene. gambling is illegal in most of the US and we don't have any "advertising" of any sort allowed for it.

Our gambling addiction rate is no lower than yours.

this is nothing more than another way to control the masses.


obviously, the big teams won't be near as affected as the teams in the lower divisions that have a whole lot less options for big sponsors than the the big 4 do.

I suspect shirt sponsorship often has the opposite effect in any case - as an example, I've never bought any Sharp products for some reason.... :D

Until the Gambling Act 2005 and changes to the law advertising on gambling activities was much more restricted so I guess they want to turn back the clock.
