That's a bit of a socialist model for your club isn't it guys ? .

I assume the tory voters on here have written countless letters to the council and demanded an end to this use of public funds for recreational activities .

:-) :-) :-)

Doesn't Barnsley Council own half of Oakwell?

Well, it's less than the 5m they signed off.

Rmbc also purchased most of the land for over a million and leased it to the club.

It's not difficult to justify the regeneration benefits of having a shiny new stadium on the edge of town though.

G&C next please.

I know what you mean I love driving past our ground it's so awesome and when you go in on match day you laugh at those poor fans with dumps for grounds

Silly, neither I nor anyone I know who supports RUFC "laugh at those poor fans with dumps for grounds."

Apologies. I seem to have deleted my post in error. I was trying to edit it to say that RMBC paid out £2.6m for the land...

And all because of state intervention and enterprise , hope for you yet silly .

Incidentally we pay BMBC a rental of £100k per annum they don't borrow us public money to play football .

I'll bet they don't lend it either.
