Bit before my time but a legend none the less.

My old man always says he could turn on a six pence.

Not entirely sure what that means XD

My all time hero, followed the Dons home and away and must have seen almost all his goals. Gutted when he went to Everton. It was announced just before a nil nil bore draw with Arbroath. When he returned some years later thousands turned up to see him play reserve football until he was eligible to play for the first team. King Joey, I salute you!

....and by the time you worked it out the ball would be in the back of the net.

Would have walked into any Aberdeen team since 1903

I was at the Arbroath game and the reserve match he made his return in.

Certainly my biggest ever hero

I bet if he was in the team today there would still be some moaning gits coming on here complaining that he brings nothing to the team apart from his goals.

Was the reserve game against Celtic and we won 5-3 or something. Seem to remember a huge crowd for a reserve game in the glorious sunshine.

Wiznae Celtic

The goal he scored was a bloody mile offside.
Still got a pitch invasion though

Of course there would be it’s one of the downsides of the internet.

I wouldn’t personally because his record is outstanding but there is always someone who is never happy with a player.

A bit before my time also. Great song though, sang it the whole way back to our apartment on one of those taxi bike things in Amsterdam. The guy pedalling had to tell us to shut up when we had to pass the police who were watching over a naked man playing the banjo in the middle of the street.

It was against St Johnstone at Pittodrie. The crowd was bigger than the first team played in front of at Muirton...

He set up 3 of the first 4 goals and scored the 5th, cueing a pitch invasion.

He went on to play for Keith, and scored in his debut v Elgin in the Proper Mannies' Qualifying Cup at Boroughbriggs (diving heider fae a corner at the Cooper Park end) on 18 September 1982. Some sad Red *******s travelled up to see it.

Scored the winning goal in the first ever match I saw played live.

1971 Dryborough Cup Final. Penalty kick - 2-1.

Used to have the occasional pint with the great man in the Amatola in the early 80's - always had a story. Star Man :star:

A great striker of the ball. One that I can remember from the dim and distant past was a 35 yarder against Hibs.
It won goal of the season.

Was that into the Paddock?
I think I was at that game, finished 1-0.

No it was into the Beach end. I missed that game as I was in Forresterhill but still mind the highlights. His best ever thought was a hat trick against hearts on a frozen pitch when he scored two goals into the paddock . At least my memory says They were Brilliant. Also Remember him scoring in the 4-0 against the hun about Xmas when they invaded the pitch(again, with no sfa penalty)
King Joey the hero of almost all Done fans born before 1970 -so that includes me

The game against Hearts was the first time opposition fans sang the "Harper's a barrel" song, or if not it was the first time I heard it. Along with other Harper fan's I took a dim view. The were in full flow with it going up King St before the kick-off and before the game started. Harper duly took his revenge with a hat-trick in 4-1 rout. A ragged few of them were determined to keep it up in King Street after the match, but it had acquired the mournful overtones of art born of suffering.
