Notts County have appointed Harry Kewell as manager and the arrival of a vastly experienced technical director is imminent as owner and chairman Alan Hardy commits to a restructure of his football department.

Kewell, who has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting young coaches in the EFL, joins the Magpies from Crawley Town after enjoying a strong debut season in first-team management.

He brings with him his assistant manager, Warren Feeney, while a technical director will follow shortly.

Notts County owner and chairman Alan Hardy said: “Having now worked in football for a significant period of time, I have had the opportunity to learn from other clubs what good looks like.

“I have therefore decided to appoint a technical director, who will set the club’s overall footballing philosophy and be on hand to support and mentor the manager as required.

“Harry will, however, be solely responsible for our first-team squad, having the final say on transfers, tactics and team selection.

“He has enjoyed an excellent start to his managerial career and I am hugely impressed with his knowledge and attention to detail.

“I thoroughly enjoyed our discussions about the role and have been left with no doubt that he has a fierce ambition to succeed and a real enthusiasm to work for Notts County.

“I’m excited to see how he implements his exciting methods and look forward to him working with our new technical director.”

As part of the restructure, Darren Fletcher will be standing down from his role as vice-chairman.

“Darren and I have come to a very amicable agreement that it would be best to part ways,” explained the chairman.

“He will remain a close personal friend of mine and I thank him for the tireless effort and support he gave to me.”

Mark Crossley and academy manager Jon Goodman will take charge of the first team against Forest Green Rovers tomorrow, with Steve Chettle attending a family wedding.

Kewell’s first game in the dugout will come away at Grimsby Town in the Checkatrade Trophy next Tuesday.

Kewell, along with the new technical director, is scheduled to meet the press on Monday.

Turns out Darren Fletcher has resigned then, tried to sneak that in there quietly, seems to me like another one thats thrown his dummy out because Nolan was his mate. Interesting that Hardy said the whole board was in agreement, did he mean "What's left of the board" were in agreement? XD

I thought the title was going to be that he sings to the tune of the new TD. Has Big Sam got a job yet? (and that'd be a no from me).

Yes, it could be about Nolan or it could be having a technical director put his nose out of joint.

Must have been an "agree or resign" ultimatum and those that are left didn't resign XD

Oh you cynical bods. Can't you take a man at his word?

No we can't. His toys are definitely out the pram.

How can you be so sure?

Hardy wants to go one way, Fletcher decides it's not for him. That happens in life - it's not hard to amicably decide to part the ways but remain friends.

The speed with which he changed his Twitter profile suggests it wasn't that amicable, IMO. I can't be sure though, of course. This site is about guessing, none of us are ITK. I'm glad he has gone, tbh, it wasn't good that he had so much influence and was an advocate for his mates, like Nolan. A lot of what he did will surely now fall into the technical director's remit.

Cant wait to find out who this will be?

It all suggests to me that we had two directors who were more devoted to a particular manager than they were to the club. Hardy also got on well with Nolan by most accounts, at least until the last few days, but as Chairman he was obviously looking at the situation objectively and decided he couldn't trust Nolo to deliver what was required.
