Going for a three one win for United. Hopefully build up an unbeaten run.
Pre match pints in the Thistle.

We seem to make things difficult for ourselves against this level of opposition. Had a couple of good results and I expect another win, going for a 2-0 win but it will not be easy on the watch.

Proofs in the pudding (as they say) how many gamblers will predict a win then back it up their coupon? Personally, i have never backed utd for ages! But!!! I am a gambler so, 3-0 us (clean sheet required)

I don't see us winning comfortably, Alloa are no mugs, coming off the back of a 2-2 in Inverness with ten men, an ugly narrow win if we take the three pts, would be delighted with that

I agree, I'm sure it'll be a tough match that we'll be doing really well to win.

Same team as last week and we have a bit of a chance. Cant see any of the returning from injured being risked, but Shabba needs to make changes earlier in a game, if not for tactical reasons, but just to help protect players on the plastic pitch.

Any win at this stage will be a great outcome. We're still a work in progress whether we like it or not. Hope clark is back.

I honestly thought he would be binned at the end of last season.. :-(

Awful performance. Couple of players busting a spud with effort but on the whole, we play like it's a friendly and the players we have are not good enough. Still no creativity and lack real threat going forward. We cut Alloa open with our only attempt at quick passing football and the players were pushing on to try and make it 2-0 but Lazlo made a sub to make us more defensive.
On a side note, Lazlo will not get us out this league. His subs and lack of tactical knowledge and inability to change his system is killing us. Fraser Aird is the only one I'm giving pass marks to today. Awful performance, negative management....no positives for me today!

I thought end of last season would have been it! But we appear to be stuck with him for a while.

2 points dropped. Disappointing vs Alloa. But it's still early days for this bunch. Follow this with a couple of back to back wins and we'll be feeling more positive again.

Not suggesting that we'll get those back to back wins. It's going to be a cut-throat league by the looks of it. If a team can put a good run of 8 wins together, they will be lookin good.

We could do it. Maybe not yet, but give us a month where we keep in touch with the top of the league and the team get a bit of time to gel and get confidence I could see us going on the type of run that says 'we're contenders'.

There WILL be some serious competition at the top of this league though.

2 weeks in a row with Booth coming on and we loose a goal. I really want to give all the new players a chance, but i didnt like Booth when i saw him v Brechin, and im not being helped by what im reading!

I was there and it was grim. We deserved the draw. Gave the ball away far too easily in the final third. Also couldn't get in the stadium untill 15 minutes into the match as there was a ridiculous system where kids had to go separately from adults which slowed things right down. Made my 3 year old go through a separate barrier from me. There wasn't enough space given to the away support with a ridiculous barrier half way along the area behind one of the goals.

Undefeated in 3 game 👍.

Bt from what I’m hearing same old same old today. Negative play. Defensive strategy. Inability to tactically change game. No threat going forward. This should be cut and pasted and used to cover Casba performance for past 6/7 months.

What will take for then board to take notice.

Just awful tactics, game management, too defensive then you leave yourself open to being punished by a free kick

Csaba the clown

When will the penny drop, and one of our managers go on the offensive in every game? It’s the championship we’re in, but our tentative approach each game simply invites the opposition onto us, gives them confidence, and ultimately they breach our shaky defence. It’s what got Ray the sack, and will (hopefully) get this clown the sack very soon too!
Only offensive consistency gets you out of this league.

It is early days yes, but the problem is 'this bunch' are playing the same old slow, turgid football as the last bunch and there has been zero improvement from the very first game of the League Cup.
Common denominator? The manager!! We'll do nothing this season while he is in charge. Absolutely nothing.

I know it’s early days but the chance to go top was there
Would have been a nice confidence booster with 3 back to back wins
Shabba had other ideas with his negative tactics

Chick A Saw
01-09-2018, 06:46 PM
Shabba is apparently angry that we didnt manage the game in the last 10 minutes to get the win! I have said before that i dont see why we have to go to a place like Alloa and feel we have to "manage" a game to see out the win! Shouts of the negativity that is seeing us loose important points like today that could, or maybe will eventually see us as play-off failure specialists!

It comes to the obvious, a decent manager would get much more from this squad

That will be the main frustration of this season when we come up short

I was quite impressed with Alloa, I think they will take points off other teams, especially at home with that narrow pitch, so a point considering we were outplayed for large parts isn't necessarily a disaster, but the performance was, we were lucky to get the point.

We are so slow moving the ball, but when you consider to play the ball out you have to use your full-backs and try and pass your way through midfield, that is no surprise when you look at our full-backs today, and the two slow limited/defensive midfielders we play with.

The centre halves were good today, but our full backs and centre mids were major problems for us.

Cant remember if it were a fan or from the club, but Alloa were identified as a difficult place to get points. I think a first 9 target of 6 wins was set by the club, so fingers crossed this ends up as a bonus point!

This league is gonna end up being so tight this season, and i think Alloa are gonna be a thorn in many a clubs side.

weegiearab

Just as well he ain't picking the team, I would suspect that the tactical genius would instruct the groundsman to bring the touchline in to match Alloa's pitch.

Noddydog
02-09-2018, 11:38 AM
He picked s team most of us would have picked; he played with two up front which many on here have been crying out for; when it wasn’t working he took off a defensive midfielder and brought on an attacking midfielder; we scored; curran then lucky to not be sent off for 2nd yellow; so he subbies him and returns to original formation to see out last 15 minutes.
Not sure i would have done any different under circumstances.

ND I agree with this to a point. Bt the sluggish approach by the team, combined with slow stuttering negative play is a concern.

ClashCityRocker

Alloa are similar to teams like Raith, Arbroath and Dumbarton - they are organised and can occasionally get the better of bigger teams.

The problem is this is now twice in short time frame that Alloa have drawn with United - if they manage to get a draw again next week in the cup match, questions will need to be asked.

It's not a disaster, thats 3 league games now without a defeat, but to win the league you can't afford to draw too many games against teams who will most likely finish in the bottom 4 this season.

Next weeks game cannot be used to give us an indicator on how our league campaign should be judged. I only expect Siegrist, Bouhenna, Edje, Booth, Glass and McMullan to be used, although it may just add a bit more fuel to the Shabboot brigade!

I really hope though that Alloa will take plenty more points off everyone around us through the season, it will just be who controls that loss of points the best!

I think it could be the Alloa manager that's the problem.
Goodwin's quite good.
He was probably thinking THEY should have had enough to see off the likes of us and he wasn't far off, sad but true.
I can see Alloa being a bogey team for a lot of the teams in the C'ship this season.
And I can't see them going down which begs the question, who are going to be 9th & 10th in this league, it's a tricky one that.
