After hitting the ground running in the one-day competition, Notts’ challenge petered out.

Yesterday saw another dramatic collapse in the County Championship, going from 70-0 to 90-6.

Is relegation on the cards this season?

Possibly. The continued failure to make the most of promising positions, and the likelihood of a batting collapse means we will struggle.

The salvation might be the fact that only one county will be relegated from division one this year.

They made some attempt to rectify the appaling batting fiascos of last season and I think they were hoping James Pattison's presence would go someway to carrying an unconvincing bowling attack (Luke Fletcher excepted) to enough points to stay safe until of course Australia had other ideas.

The batting line up has been an issue for a number of years. We often play players out of batting position, Steve Mullaney has never been nor will he ever be an opening batsman. We continue to waste resources on stale players like Patel who are getting worse not better. We don’t make use of the academy. And we certainly don’t make good use of the overseas market.
Whilst Mick Newell is still pulling the strings the club will not progress.

Was really impressed with the signings we made. Now I'm beginning to think Hardy is the Notts CCC chairman as well

Not sure we will go down if Patto is fit he will probably win us a few games.

Our problem is the batting line up is pretty much "white ball" specialists and it is the same with England we are either going to score 400 very quickly or collapse from 50-0 to 150 all out etc.

I agree Newell does need to be removed but his power seems to get stronger each year.

We haven't really been helped by Hales/Gurney not wanting to play championship cricket, I know why they are chasing the ££££££ but i'm old school I like players to want to be here these two clearly don't.

It's like watching County, but not quite... they have at least won some 50 overs.

Relegation in the long game? You bet... odds on.

Runs are the premium this year, you can see it, this batch of Dukes balls, pitch preparation etc.
Notts are going to have to make more of these decent starts or we're going to struggle.
Relegation? Not sure yet, but we need to get into big score habits and fast.

Might do OK in the 20 overs format, but think relegation from Division One of the County Championship
