If they play like they did in the first half tonight then we're in trouble.

On the other hand if they play like they did in the second half, we'll do them.

My prediction is a 3-1 win at Pittodrie followed by a 3-1 defeat in Budapest.

Don't let Jim Forrest take a penalty.

As the team came off the plane at Dyce Airport, the first team ever to lose on penalties.
A very young donsdaft, waiting for autographs, said to the man who had missed the historic spot kick
" Never mind Jim, onybody can miss a penalty "

He didn't reply, "Striker thumps 11 year old" wouldn't have looked good in the P&J in the morning.

I can be arsed when it comes to Europe although we'll probably be punted in the first week of August as per usual.

A Northern European team for the 1st Round will do nicely to get our limbs loose before the more tricker sides begin to enter in the later rounds.

I think it's much better entering in the 1st Round than like last year when we got a decent team and were punted straight away.

Having said that, with the names being mentioned as signings for next season, we might struggle to beat the likes of Connahs Quay...

Given the co-efficients, the odds on us drawing Cliftonville after QR2 are minuscule.

We should reach QR3 where we would meets the likes of:-

I know it will be difficult but not necessarily as hard as you set out. We will certainly have to beat a top seeded team at some point but as the Q4 draw is before Q3 is played if one of your unseeded teams gets knocked out in Q3 then we would end up playing a team of a similar standing to us in Q4

Yes, meant to put in “likely”, as in we’d need to likely beat two of the above teams.
What odds on us beating a QR3 seeded side and being drawn against another unseeded winner from QR3 with our pairing coming from opposite half’s of the draw I.e. one of us takes the seeding (Partizan Belgrade and above) with the other being in the unseeded section I.e. Wolves and below?

BogBrush1903

We must bear in mind also that the draw has the propensity to give us awkward ties in Europe...

Only one season have we had a really nice draw under McInnes, the Fola Esch, Ventspils and Maribor season although that cheating Bulgarian ref didn't help us.

Maybe we're due a run of easier games like Sevco had last season....

Certainly they seemed to get a good rub of the green, which certainly papered over the cracks and helped them out no-end.
You would think that they would not be as fortunate this season, that said, they scraped into last place seeding for QR2, when they could so easily not been seeded that round.

I agree with you that it's a long shot but as you said elsewhere look at the luck sevco had last year. For reference there are 26 teams that are in our part of the draw for Q4. Last season 3 out of the 13 seeded teams lost in QR 3 (including Maribor to sevco) and 2 of the 13 unseeded teams lost so it is odds against but not impossible. The other possible "easy" route is to draw an unseeded team from a country with a high coefficient that hasn't played in Europe much before like sevco did last season with Ufa. Arsenal Tula (is that a real name!!) from Russia would be the equivalent this season.

Anyway first things first. We need to sign quite a few quality players to put a team on the park that is capable of getting through the first two rounds before we start thinking about QR3

Not always, but it is statistically proven to be a major contributor.
We have beaten teams with better seeding than us (Groningen / Rijeka), as is it's possible we lose to teams with lower seeding (Kairat Alamaty) even though all three had bigger budgets than us.

Well it is entirely ludicrous, if drink-fueled friendly in pish-up town sparked trouble and The Scum or some other red top discovered we were arranging matches with the intention that our travelling support could go somewhere and get hammered or get up to other nefarious acts...or at least that's what my inner snowflake is saying.

Although we use to, I remember going to Hamburg for a match against St Pauli in 1999 and we've been back there since. I was also at Kaiserlauten in 2009. These friendlies were pointless because we were absolutely honking on the pitch. Infact it is 2019, I'm due another one...when the year ends in 9 as Chas & Dave didn't sing

Ludicrous suggestion. Of no value to the club whatsoever.

Wise up min, we should get a better coach in to let us perform to our best and therefore not qualify for Europe , that way we could enjoy the early stages of the league cup and enjoy away days/nights at the likes of Hamilton/Annan and save myself some money on travelling overseas......!!

Absolutely.
The prize for not qualifying for Europe is the League cup Group stages.
Wow. Can’t understand why I wouldn’t prefer that option.

I think we'd get by defensively with that back 4 (hoping a proper LB signed at some point before end of window though).

Defensive midfield we could just about get by - would likely have to be Gleeson with Ferguson for a bit of experience (hoping Gleeson is punted though and we bring a couple of good quality midfielders in)

Attack wise is the big worry for me. We can't persevere with May any longer. McLennan is young and will be inconsistent. Hedges is an unknown quantity. Cosgrove and Main are not good strikers - if Cosgrove gets near 20 again next season I'll be utterly amazed.

I know you probably didn’t mean it to come across like this but your statement is way out of date. We in Scotland can no longer take the view we are too good for “Johnny foreigner”. I would remind you again that we lost something like 75-80% of all games that Shinnie didn’t play in the last 4 years, a player we would not remotely replace by having Gleeson or indeed Campbell in the team. That’s before we consider a team without Lowe, McGinn or GMS.

Yes, we don’t be complacent and give due respect, but our issues in QR1 tend to be down to first competitive games of the season and not down to player quality.Playing in QR1 actually helps us be better equipped for QR2.

I expect we will see some more additions, but not until July and we’re into the final week before the first game.

Stunning, intelligent and importantly with the likes of myself......kind and understanding, regardless(ffs!) the only reason for no passports last season was due to the fact we drew Burnley and I could not be arsed going to Dubai.......with luck, I’ll be able to interrupt my golfing/gambling/gluesniffing to use my passport next month and fingers crossed (s)....

Of course the passports were required last year for the European pre-season friendly. ;)
I think there is only one team this year that we wouldn’t need our passports for in QR1, so we’ll need to dig them out again.

Well that's who I think we'll get too after an unscientific draw in my head (the Northern Irish clubs always play Norwegians etc)...

I think we'd take care of the Estonians but the Finns I would be worried about...

To be honest, I would prefer an easier opener so I'd rather we get Cliftonville (assuming they take care of Barry).

It's unlikely though, we've never drawn an Northern Irish team in 52 years in and out of European football. Nor, amazingly, a French side, which probably won't change either this season as we'll be out before the French teams enter.

The closest we got to Northern Ireland was Finn Harps in 1973 which is on the road to the border and must've been quite a tense place when we was there given that the worse year of The Troubles for deaths was 1972.

If we get KI it would be easier getting a boat fae Wick to go there miles away from the airport at Vagur.

Maybe a helicopter ride would be needed, although I think all the Faroe Islands are now connected by undersea tunnels so no more multi ferry journeys to reach there.

ROPS are midway through their season but doon the bottom of the Finnish league so surely tae fk we could beat them and I'd rate them the strongest side in it.

I was going to be in Estonia around that time anyway. I see there are plenty ferries from Tallin to Helsinki but still a 500 mile drive after that. Must say I am tempted.

The usual unadvertised spaces tend to be a bit pricey.

I've spent a bit of time today - not as much as I should have - and not really come up with anything under about 500 - not counting accommodation. I think I might just see what tomorrow's draw brings - or trade in some of my Loyalty/Priority Points for a seat on the club plane.

I WILL ask them for a price but dont think I'll be able to afford it. They'll put the price high enough to keep the likes of me off the plane.

. Will stay in Helsinki Wednesday night and Friday night.

Helsinki's the biz. A beautiful city where the east and west meet - Slavonic statues, Russian architecture and tolerant attitudes.

I could spend hours in the railway station just looking at the architecture, and listening for the rumble of the Leningrad-Helsinki train that docks about 11am. Two locos at each end pushing/pulling the fupper and about 50 coaches.

I was hoping for some sort of Dr Zhivago/Jenny Agutter in The Railway Children series of familial reunions, with Soviet babushkas meeting their Suomi grandchildren for the first time in scenes of high emotion on the 700m long platform.

Nuh. Just businessmen in linen suits with laptop bags.

I attended an HJK game whilst I was there. Poor atmosphere, family-friendly, and a 4-0 stroll against some Karelian yokels from Lapenraanta or some other hick deadbeat town. Lapenraanta does have a Drive In Elvis burger joint, though.

Who do you think the Terry and Julie Ray had in mind when he jotted down the lyrics of Waterloo Sunset when this top class film was in the picture hooses?

12971

A bit of Hardy culture outlining his bleak fatalistic world view later captured in his best-known novels?

Anything to oblige.

During Wind and Rain (Thomas Hardy)

They sing their dearest songs—
He, she, all of them—yea,
Treble and tenor and bass,
And one to play;
With the candles mooning each face. . . .
Ah, no; the years O!
How the sick leaves reel down in throngs!

They clear the creeping moss—
Elders and juniors—aye,
Making the pathways neat
And the garden gay;
And they build a shady seat. . . .
Ah, no; the years, the years,
See, the white storm-birds wing across.

They are blithely breakfasting all—
Men and maidens—yea,
Under the summer tree,
With a glimpse of the bay,
While pet fowl come to the knee. . . .
Ah, no; the years O!
And the rotten rose is ript from the wall.

They change to a high new house,
He, she, all of them—aye,
Clocks and carpets and chairs
On the lawn all day,
And brightest things that are theirs. . . .
Ah, no; the years, the years;
Down their carved names the rain-drop ploughs.

I know Fola Esch play with many foreign players but I think Chikhura Sachkhere will win although the prediction is completely meaningless as I don't know the relative strengths of each squad, I'm just basing it on recent Euro performances.

However, as I said previously, I'm convinced the RoPS will pose us big problems. I think we'll lose in Finland so think that at least a two goal margin of victory at Pittodrie will be necessary.

I think the chances of us making the QR3 are only moderate but if we get past the Finns I'll be more confident.

I know this is getting ahead of myself but I wonder if both us and sevco get through and both the Luxemburg teams also get through that UEFA will switch one of the ties as given the Luxemburg towns are only 8 miles apart doubt they will want boozed up Scots "getting together" with each other either travelling there or whilst there. Could be a bit messy!!

To confuse matters further Jeunesse Esch are also in the mix but currently scheduled for opposite home/away legs than Fola so if all 5 teams make it through I suspect switching sevco's match would be the easiest option for Uefa.

Club have been allocated 200 tickets and will be contacting fans to offer them the chance of buying one.

That'll be interesting as - once again - AberDNA slews the Loyalty/Priority Points.

Be interesting to see if I get the opportunity to buy a ticket.

If you get offered one and are nae gan, can I hae it then?

Both us and the huns also played our respective Luxembourg teams in the national stadium. Might just have us on different nights. What could possibly go wrong? :):):)

Could organise bus shares with them, might usher in a new era of friendly rivalry between ourselves and Scotland's youngest club.

I think the SPFL have decided to get involved and they have suggested that, if the scenario pans out, playing both games on the same day would be an idea. Scottish fans would be able to share transport and would also probably attend each other's game in order to support their countrymen.

I don't think any of the Luxembourgish are allowed to play their home games at their own stadia.

Always seem to be played at Stade Josy Barthel.

Hmmmm - you are obviously ignorant of the depths of my OCD. Whilst getting terribly upset when I feel that rules are unfair, breaking them is not my thing. I hope you get one but if I'm offered one after deciding not to go, then I'd decline. Sorry.

What is it with being drawn to play the first leg at home. That’s now 8 consecutive ties we have to play second leg away

Is it not better to play away secong leg, with away goals still counting if scored in extra time.

Plus the fact we seem to do better in the away leg anyway.

I contacted the ticket office yesterday, just askin if they had decided on points threshold etc for allocating the tickets. I was told no, but that it would be sorted out very shortly. When pushed, she said i will have a ‘very high chance’ of getting a ticket with my points, but that they would be contacting all who are eligible imminently. She did say somethin about taking recent previous European away attendance into account, as well as the loyalty points, which is both a good, but also very confusing, thing. I’ve got a bad feeling that a lot will depend on whether a charter is put on, and the chance to then further ‘pay’ for loyalty could occur. Having went on club charters previously, they are normally attended by deserving folks, but it does put the chance for a once a year Dandy t pay their way to the match. And that’s just not cricket! She also said that they thought they’d struggle to sell the allocation initially, but that now they weren’t so sure. Anyway, flights & accommodation were booked within an hour of the draw, so fingers crossed I’m one of the ‘chosen few’ (what a hunnish choice of words, I now feel sick!).

I've brought it up with the club before and never really had a satisfactory answer. Despite going to virtually every game last season I'm only on 186 points and possibly in danger of missing out. For European games like this I really feel the club should consider the fans that go to virtually all the European away games and make sure these fans are catered for. Take Kazahkstan or Macedonia which I think was the lowest number of fans going. How hard can it be to cater for perhaps less than 100 who have been at every away game. I missed Kazahkstan due to a change of jobs that week. Had my travel plans all worked out. The only other away game I missed since before 2000 was the one in Moldova. I almost missed out for Cyprus due to the way the club handled that particular debacle only securing one from the club at the very last minute. I think I actually probably got a club officials or something like that due to the amount of running around the club did. If I don't get one and all else fails it will be the home end for me somehow. I'm pretty confident all those going will get a ticket.

I'm going to give the club the benefit of the doubt here. I think the lack of transparency is - not publishing Priority (not Loyalty any more) points thresholds etc - are allowing them to go thru the list of people who - like GASC - have been regular attenders at away European matches and possibly even including domestic fixtures in the equation as opposed to simply depending on points totals. The AberDNA has really given them a self-inflicted headache. I would be shocked in GASC and LossieLoon dont get tickets.

If it's any consolation, I have more than 300 points and haven't had a call about a ticket either. I think as deaconred has said I suspect they must be selective in how they are doing it especially considering previous away European attendances.

I also suspect that once staff, family and other hinger-ons are given their tickets there will be quite a bit less than 200 tickets going to fans like us.

Just heard that you don’t need to worry about loya...sorry, priority points. Just pay the grand for the one night charter, and you’re guaranteed a ticket. Simples really.

Now I know the commercial side of things is essential to the financial well-being of the club, and have attended many such things myself. But, I don’t think it should be done at the expense of other, perhaps ‘more eligible’ (?) Dons. I know it’s difficult t say who deserves it more, but you get my drift. And I put this into principle just last year, when upon hearing a good friend hadn’t got a Burnley ticket, I offered him mine, as his virtual 100% attendance away in Europe for almost 2 decades meant that I felt he was more deserving than me. And I’ve not missed too many either t be fair! It was a moot point anyway, as all my regular euro jaunters obtained the necessary briefs!

That's the same as me and I got a call on Thursday.

Went to every game last season - maybe that was looked at?

Problem is that the Loyalty/Priority Point system is totally discredited and, I think, the Ticket Office are bearing the brunt.

Giving "Priority" points for being a DNAer and/or shareholder (with over 250 shares bought at original issue) and going on the club-organised coach to away games is totally at odds with the basic simple original idea of giving points for going to matches.

it's like adding 3 bananas to 2 apples and comparing it to 2 oranges and a peach.

Daft - but the MAIN problem is that whilst you can give them the benefit of the doubt for the mess last season - they have done NOTHING to solve it this season and, as the years pass, those who GO to games will find themselves further and further down the list behind those who can afford DNA.

The Supporters' Clubs should really get them telt.

Yup. I got the e mail yesterday saying " top 200 " had been contacted. I sent one in asking to be on the " considered " list. And said I had 283 points. ( DNa and everything !! )

Fair dues, got a reply. But it said " top 200 " have been contacted . And they were all " in the region " of 340 points.............. so my 283 were nae good !!

now , given Lossieloons has 340 , and wasnt contacted either. " In the regio of " now means more than 340 points. ??

how the heck do you get more than 340 points ?

Like you said. Loyalty is a fickle and changing thing. Seems it`s ALL about the pennies.
