I think the attendance is dependent on the results at Bromley and Boreham Wood. The difference bewteeen two defeats and two wins might be as much as 4,000 on the attendance. I expect two draws so ... 9,643.

Agreed, wouldn't expect many from Fylde either as it's a ways. So 2 wins in the previous matches, @12,000, draws or defeats, we'll be lucky to break 10,000.

So long as 8k turn up it'll be a worthwhile exercise as that would mean the majority of people who attended last season were tempted back and some might stick if it's a decent game/result.

While getting a big crowd is great my concern is we never ever turn up at these type of games so a poor performance or negative result is pretty much guaranteed. I’m still not convinced it’s a sustainable model and while it keeps the neutral interested I would rather we just focus on continuing to get things right on the pitch because ultimately it’s footballing success and results that will increase attendances in a positive and sustainable manner.

Interesting. That makes an average of just over thirty league matches a year. I guess the average is dragged down by the war years, and by smaller leagues in the 'olden days'. If we'd always played at today's annual match rate, we'd have reached that milestone a long time ago.

The Football League wasn't founded until 1888, which means we couldn't play league games for the first 26 years.

You're right. The leagues lost 11 seasons to the world wars, which cost us 450ish games. And we didn't play more than 40 games in a season until 1919/20 (we didn't play the current allotment of 46 until 1958/59, and we've only done it continuously since 1992/93).

Do this season's games count seeing as we are essentially non-league or are we just saying any game that involves playing for points in a league season?

As long as we're careful with the semantics (ie. it's our 5,000th league game, not our 5,000th League game), I think it's fine.

I think the attendance will depend on how many people turn up, but I expect between 14,000 - 15,000.

Also, I think the result will depend on how many goals are scored and who scores them, therefore I predict a massive 0-0 after VAR disallows three Fylde goals.

Do this season's games count seeing as we are essentially non-league or are we just saying any game that involves playing for points in a league season?

And are we including the United Counties League that we played in around the time we won the FA Cup?

Back to the present, the current average of 5,100 would be the 6th highest in the 4th tier and is also better than six clubs in the 3rd tier, so you could say that even at this level we've got the support that should sustain a club two levels higher if they're run properly.

Regardless of the Sunderland factor, crowds in the 3rd tier are very impressive these days, 15 clubs are averaging 6k plus, half are over 7k and 6 clubs above 9k.

We are 16th in the fifth division - any crowd above 8,000 would be impressive, no matter how cheap the tickets are. I think our last cheap offer was against Cambridge, when we were diabolical. Can’t imagine any neutrals from that day would be looking to return. Still, maybe a win on Tuesday night would add a few more to the gate.

True, but it's also an indication of how interest is cooling. The same ticket deal saw us get 17k a couple of seas ago. Even the Cambridge game had a sec turnout (14k?)

This is the problem with Ardley's football and results. People will simply lose interest. We should be involved in promotion campaign, yet we're settling into another seas of struggle.

As much as breaking this record is exciting to some I would be much happier with 3 points regardless of the attendance. That said I hope the attendance is enough to ensure the owners see some reward for the efforts they have made so far but as far as breaking records go I thought we had left that kind of ego stroking behind us.

To me, this looks like a very important match. Fylde were among the pre season favourites for promotion, but like Notts, they’ve had a mixed start. Both clubs still have plenty of time to improve and could push on towards a play off place. I’d therefore rate this as a 6 pointer, with both sides really up for it.

Therefore, 1-1 Wootton. 11555.

Leaving hope to one side, you can only go on what has gone before and Notts County do not win games on the trot under Neal Ardley and usually lose after a win, regardless of the quality of the opposition.

Notts 0 Fylde 1

Fword playing Friday night so I expect a fair few hundred of them might be tempted by a £3 offer which could break us through the 10k barrier.

I understand why Notts are running the promotion so early in the season given they need to repair the damage to the club's reputation, but it's probably too early in the year for a huge crowd. You can't market it as an important game in a promotion push or ***** relegation six pointer. Still looks like a very good gate for this level and I think it shows that Notts are re-engaging people after all the trouble of the past year.
