Looking to replace my Packard Bell all in one , for a new one, had this one about 8 years been very reliable.
Is it worth considering ones with the Amd ryzen processor or stick with Intel ?

You need to try APPLE Lloyd.

I don’t know anyone who’s swooped to an APPLE computer and then gone back to any other sort thereafter.

I changed about 7-8 years ago and find them to be far better than what I used to use.

Have to agree with Mick on this one. For me (and my tech grandson) it has to be apple.

I've used an Apple macbook pro for years. This one's 4 yrs old and Im looking to upgrade to a newer version next year but only if they fix the keyboard issues. I also have an Ipad mini and Iphone. Thing is Lloyd they're flippin expensive.

I’ve had no technical issues whatsoever Phil.

The sound and picture quality and ease of use is miles ahead of the competition.

They are more expensive but you get what you pay for and they last forever.

Absolutely bullet proof in my opinion.

It took me a couple of days to get comfortable with but I now find other types of PC a nightmare to use, they feel so backwards in comparison.

It’s like going back to an Amstrad after using your present computer Lloyd.

If you choose an APPLE you’ll never revert back to your old one.

You will be learning a completely new operating programme but I'd say its fairly straightforward to understand. Loads of magazines about especially one called MACBOOK FOR SENIORS you can get it from Sainsburys and WH Smiths

I use Linux because it has no issues with viruses and is free. I still have to have to use microsoft for music production due to Linux not being up to scratch yet with music studio platforms. I love Linux though but Mac is the best by far, if you cant afford Mac, then Linux works on the same principle using Kernels. Microsoft is a nightmare for updates, interuptions, and issues.....Ita driva me Craze!

A few years ago I bought a new laptop, a HP Envy (runs Windows) and it has been rubbish, absolutely awful. I had a number of calls to HP to sort it out but to no avail. It often fails to connect to the internet, with a message that there is no internet connection available, but there is, other devices connect no problem. I gave up with the lump of rubbish and now use it as a digital storage device, it has a 2 Tb hard disk. I bought an IPad, so much better and the after sales service from Apple is superb. Yes, Apple computers are more expensive than Windows based stuff but are streets ahead in terms of quality and after sales back up. Buy Apple. Don’t touch HP with your barge pole.

Apple are pricey Lloyd, but yes the build quality and user experience is great

But if you want Windows and a bit of portability long battery life (15.5 stated) and don’t want to pay too much I recommend this Toshiba which is a tablet and laptop combined, also has backlit keyboard which is great

The Lenovo Yoga is pretty good too

I bought a Sony vaio a few years ago (Sony don't make laptops now though) after a compaq I had for few years was too slow.

HP and Compaq are the same manufacturer and along with Dell are the only laptops I would buy as I feel they give you more value for money than an apple laptop.

I would not buy the Chinese brands like lenovo etc because of the security risks linked to them as it is alleged they put spy ware on them.

Having said that I wish I hadn't even bought the Sony as I use my phone for everything and the Sony only comes out of it's case very rarely.

In any event soulman I would decide what you want, I always stick to Intel because in all honesty I don't like change and I have always had Intel chips from my university days when we bought a British manufactured desktop made by Apricot.

I would just try and get as much ram (8gb is very good) and memory as you can get. Decide what you want and see how much it is and then wait until the January sales when they will invariably go down in price.

Technology changes very quickly so prices on older products goes down too.

I would try to get it from John Lewis, who price match any company which has a physical store, because they give you a 2 year warranty on their laptops.

Used to buy Vaios ages ago, but build quality and materials used went from very good to pants so I switched to the premium Toshiba laptops

The Toshiba above is very good imo, and can be purchased from anywhere as its got 3 years onsite warranty from Toshiba and amazing battery life

I’d be astonished if anyone had used an APPLE computer and then thought it was so bad they really had to return to their previous computer.

It’s like when you’re able to afford your first quality car and then deciding to go back to your Morris Marina ( in my case! )

Like swopping your 48 inch flat screen TV with HD and all the surround sound for that Redivision rental you rented in the 70’s.

I’ll bet Des had one of those 😆

Apple make very good quality products, but as you said you pay a premium.

I bought my wife the first generation ipod and then the ipod touch and they are great products. However, apple are renowned for making you upgrade their software, which in turn makes the product obsolete making you upgrade.

I had the 5s iPhone (which I think is the best phone imo for size and look) and there was a software update after which the battery was up and down and which they admitted and which is the subject of class action lawsuit in the USA.

After that I stick to Sony android phones.

The Vaio I have was purchased in 2011, after which Sony left the UK computer market. It's OK and looks brand new because I have hardly used it, so I wouldn't know how good it is really, other than it starts up still and was easy to upgrade to Windows 10.

I think Toshiba are now owned by a Chinese company and I would he wary of what spyware they would have on it.

A lot of well known brands now license their names to other companies now so it is very hard to know what you are actually buying these days.

Have to agree with much of what blood say. We are totally Apple at the moment for personal use, Apple Mac what ever and iPads with and old iPod.My idea, as I have/did have a hobby of video editing/photography etc. Apple was by far better for doing this.

The thing is Apple is a totally different animal in my view. It is quicker, however, we have had issues. Word docs sent to us from Microsoft do not always formulate correctly and can be unreadable.

I use Microsoft for work purposes and I have to say enjoy the ease of it compared to Apple.

Please take note, I know nothing about the techno side of these things.

Buying a computer really comes down to what use it is going to get......
Apple is great for graphics and the like......but is pricey.......and as mentioned, can be problematic for upgrades.. Standard laptops and desk tops are fine if you are only browsing the internet and reading script.....
So much hype about all the whistles and bells on these things....pointless if you are never going to use them.....
According to the world and his dog...I should have a Mac for photography...but I don't...I get by with my HP desk top....
But then I have a mobile prepay for years now cause I only use it for texting and the very odd call..or to be contacted.....everything else is disabled on my phone...location etc......so really depends on your use for it....

Had a MacBook Pro but found I preferred office on Windows
Also had Parallels loaded so I could switch to Windows software for some work specific software that was only Windows

Although it was a great laptop build quality wise It was very noisy due to fans cooling especially when running Windows only software via parallels

Soulman if all you do is browse the net I would consider a chromebook which will cost about £180.
