Bolton Wanderers have reportedly made an approach for Blackpool legend and current Barrow boss Ian Evatt.

It was always going to happen after his achievements at Barrow, it's the downside of being a small club. If he goes to Bolton it will make Barrow's task of making an impact in the football league a fair bit more difficult.

I agree, I don't think they will get someone as good.

Totally agree, he has done an amazing job there and would prob be nuts to go to a crisis club like Bolton, stick with Barrow, survival in league 2 would make him a legend there.

AN end may finally be in sight for Wanderers in their efforts to prize Ian Evatt away from Barrow.

The Bolton News understands an important step has been taken in negotiations this afternoon as Bolton look to appoint the 38-year-old as their new manager.

A dispute emerged between Wanderers and Barrow over the interpretation of clauses in Evatt’s contract, signed last October.

Barrow came out fighting this morning, briefing local press that they had rejected a ‘derisory offer’ which fell way below the £250,000 they claim they are due.

We have learned, however, that the asking price for the manager and his assistant Peter Atherton was never that high, and that the wording of his contract was the root cause of the disagreement.

Wanderers have steadfastly refused to pay over the odds, having felt confident before their approach for the former Blackpool and Chesterfield defender that they knew exactly what would be required to pay.

And with some headway being made in negotiations, it is now hoped Wanderers will get a chance to speak officially to Evatt in the near future about personal terms.

I hope he remembers to leave the keys under the door when they wake up and find he's already legged it to Bolton. That's the Boton way IIRC.

Too bad he won't get the chance to take the players out for a huge piss up the night he leaves.

WANDERERS are set to appoint Ian Evatt as their new manager after agreeing a compensation deal with Barrow.

The club is understood to have settled a dispute over the terms of the 38-year-old’s contract at Holker Street and will now discuss personal terms.

Sources close to the deal believe an announcement could be made in the next 24 hours which confirms Evatt as the replacement for Keith Hill at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Peter Atherton, Evatt’s assistant, is part of the deal – ending speculation that he could stay on in Cumbria.

Wanderers are playing fourth tier football for only the second time in their history but believe the former Blackpool and Chesterfield defender, who led Barrow to an unlikely promotion from the National League last season, is the perfect man to revive their fortunes.

Compensation for the remaining two years of his contract has proved an issue, with Barrow claiming they were owed £250,000 as part of a “golden handcuffs” agreement.

Wanderers initially refused to meet their demands but it is understood the two clubs have now come to an agreement and that an official appointment is imminent.

Burton did alright after Nigel Clough was tempted to go elsewhere. It's not often a vacancy comes up for a club that's just got promoted, it should attract the interest of some decent candidates.

They might have a swap and go for Keith Hill.

That's a good call, he might be a total A-hole but hes a very decent lower league manager

I've never forgiven him for what he did because I was under the impression that he was having family problems until he popped up at Bolton
