We move on to the second leg of the play-off final on Wed night at Griffin Park.
We’ll take a one goal advantage into the match and are unbeaten in the last five away matches since season resumption.
Brentford’s last home match resulted in a 1-2 home defeat to Barnsley who had to win to stay up.
This will be the last match at Griffin Park before the Bees move to their new ground.

Henry’s red card rescinded on appeal. Inevitable with the fuss their arrogant manager made and the overreaction by the Sky pundits. I still think it was a red card, diving in at speed with studs up, contact or not.
Thomas Frank is now saying that 100% Brentford are going to win the tie, no bounds to the arrogance of this man.
There are no new injuries to report for us, with Naughton returning to the squad from his uncontested three match ban.

100% we will win he said and 100% the unlikeable Dane, Thomas Frank, was right as Brentford tore us a new one.
Two goals up in the first 15 mins Brentford were by far the better side, another one after the break, could have been more, as our frail set up was exposed. We played slightly better after that and eventually pulled a goal back, but couldn’t score another to tie the match on aggregate and force extra time, and it was goodbye Swans.

Awful basic errors in defending for all three of their goals, how to lose a football match in three easy lessons. They virtually threw away a seasons work in a mad first 15 minutes.
The repercussions of this defeat are that this team will be broken up. The loanees will return to their parent clubs, the out of contract players will leave, the high earners will be offloaded, and the best of the rest sold, leaving a skeleton squad to be filled with low paid free transfers.

Of the starting 11 players on Wed night, 3 are out of contract, 4 are loan players, and 1 (Ayew) will be gone as we can’t afford his high wages.

In retrospect it was a mistake dropping a centre-back (Cabango) and replacing him with a full-back (Naughton) in our back three.
Why change a winning team?
Brentford’s goals were straight from the training ground, exploiting our vulnerability to the counter attack and pace out wide.
Their goalkeeper was excellent, did you see how fast he started the counter attack for the first goal, and he came and caught every ball in the air. In contrast our goalkeeper was static and hesitant.

Sorry 3 loan players not 4 in my previous post.

We played them all wrong second leg and everybody charging forward, wide open to the counter attack was crazy.
2-0 down in the first 15 mins left us with a mountain to climb.
Well Fulham beat Brentford 2-0, making it 4 defeats in 5 matches for Brentford. Fulham full back exposed Brentford’s ‘not so clever after all’ goalkeeper off his line with a free kick that sailed over him into the net for their first goal.
