Mike van der Hoorn has gone, one of our best players.
From the club site -
“ The defender has left the club following the end of his contract, bringing down the curtain on a four-year spell with the Swans after his move from Ajax in 2016.”

It seems that he was determined to leave. Whether some other club has offered him a better deal we will find out soon. If we’d got promoted I think he would have stayed. Anyway he’s gone and there were some nice parting words -

Big Mike was the second to leave in the last week, with goalkeeper Erwin Mulder having already departed for Heerenveen, both out of contract.

Well some positive news, one of the many out of contract players, Wayne Routledge, has signed for another year.
Not sure how much he’ll play though as he’s lost some of his pace.

No word on Naughton and Dyer yet, Dyer hardly played last season.

Korey Smith:
"I am delighted to be here. From the moment the club knew I was available the manager was on the phone to me, he showed me the project and was really keen to get me through the door.
He told me all about the place, the fans and the stadium. I am really excited to get going.
The club showed how much they wanted me, there was no messing around."

We’ve made a bid for Wigan’s Jamal Lowe, 27 year old winger, reported to be 750k. He still has 2 years left on his contract but with Wigan in administration and dropping down to League One they’ll be desperate for cash. Prolific scorer for his last club Portsmouth, he scored 6 goals for Wigan last season.
Why we need a winger when we played with wing backs and a back three in the latter part of the season I don’t know. I hope he doesn’t revert to a conventional back four again as we did well with the back three.

We’ve drawn Newport County away in the Carabao Cup, which was the old League Cup. The match is scheduled for Sat 5th Sept, less than 3 weeks away. Tricky tie with Newport so good in the Cup games.

It looks as if we are letting Morgan Gibbs-White join you on loan for the season. Your manager knows him from the youngsters World Cup. Has played several games for us in the Premiership and numerous sub appearances. A midfielder who likes to get forward.

Hi abboborum, a thank you to Wolves, Morgan sounds like just what we need and he will do well here if he steers clear of injury. Steve Cooper is good with the youngsters, and like you said he has worked with Morgan before and will give him plenty of game time. As you know it is hard to get out of this division and we fell just short last time. IMO we have to find more goals though if we want to get promoted this time around.

Jamal Lowe to Swansea from Wigan for £800k plus add-ons, was having a medical yesterday, should be announced soon.
He joins Marc Guehi, back for another season long loan from Chelsea
Freddie Woodman, back for another season long loan from Newcastle
Wayne Routledge signs a new one year contract with the option of a second year.
Kyle Naughton signs a new one year contract with the option of a second year.

Jamal Lowe deal complete and he’s now a Swans player.
Together with the other signings mentioned above we are getting a good squad of players together.
I think we need another centre-back if we’re going to continue with a back three, and also a forward that can score plenty of goals.
Blackburn centre half/left back Derrick Williams has been mentioned, he’s in the last year of his contract, but they supposedly want a seven figure sum, which maybe puts him out of our reach unless we can sell some players that are no longer wanted.
As for the forward, I think we were hoping Guehi would return, but that seems unlikely with PL clubs chasing him. But if he wants game time and not sitting on the bench as a back-up player then Swansea’s the place.

Swans played Southampton at their place yesterday in two 60 min matches behind closed doors in a friendly that wasn’t even scheduled on the Swans official website. First match they were hammered By the Saints first team 7-0 in an embarrassing display, with a mixture of first team players and Academy players..
The second 60 min match was 0-1, Fulton the scorer with a much better display, albeit against the Saints squad players.
Whilst not condoning our pathetic first match performance, Saints websites made headline news of the matches, joined the matches together as one 120 min match and reported them as a 7-1 defeat. I was surprised that they made such a big thing of beating us In an unimportant pre-season kick about.

It was an absolute shambles of a performance. I know it was only a hastily arranged, behind closed doors, friendly and we shouldn’t read too much into it, but that was shocking, half-hearted defending, especially by the wing backs/full backs. It showed that some of the youngsters included are not ready for the first team by a long way. As for the first teamers, embarrassing wasn’t it.

Bought by Potter for £2m from Sunderland, Joel Asoro has gone on a season long loan to Serie A club Genoa. They have an option to buy at the end of the loan. Asoro made 14 appearances without scoring for Swansea. He is another flop that Potter brought in. Of his other signings, John and McKay have been told they can go, and Dhanda is the only one with a slim chance of making a go of it here.

It's an unsettling time at the Swans. In the boardroom major shareholder Steve Kaplan has resigned, reasons would not be revealed when asked by the 21% shareholder Supporters Trust.
On the field, key defender Joe Rodon is being lined up for Spurs, already several players have been moved on and the squad is too lightweight. The transfer window closes on the 16th Oct.

It was a hectic last day of the transfer window.
The fire sale continues under our hedge fund owners as they sell off our top talent once more. The wily Levy got one over on us again and prised Rodon out of Swansea for a bargain fee of £11 million, a shockingly low price I know.
Some better news though, there were incoming players to boost our depleted squad-
Kasey Palmer - 23 year old midfielder from Bristol City
Ryan Manning - 24 year old left wing-back from QPR
Ryan Bennett - 30 year old centre-back from Wolves
Joel Latibeaudiere - 20 year old centre-back from Man City
There was also talk of (ex-loanee 2011) forward Fabio Borini being signed on a free transfer. This can still happen as he is unattached and can be signed outside the window.
