I’m reading my X-mas gift ”The Albion Miscellany, Baggies Trivia, History, Facts & Stats” by Dave Bowler & Laurie Rampling, and here are some questions for you (no cheating with Google of course 😇):

Albion player with most red cards (6)?

But, since two of them were rescinded, one could say he’s on par with two other Albion players with 4 red cards?

Name an Albion manager/head coach who has played one (1) game for us, just the one?

The book is from 2010, so it’s 1878-2010 then. Hopefully the book has got the details right... 😎

He lived in Hagley 68, I used to see him in the Hagley Cafe.

First team debut at 16 and died a couple of years ago aged 94.

Saw him run across the main road at 93 to beat the traffic😆😆😎

5 ft 5 inches tall and like a whippet in his youth I gather, a formidable tennis player and golfer until very late in life and a real gent.

Morning Mick. Charlie Wilson. Yes, I cheated and used Google. Source: the Albion official site followed by further reading on Wiki' this morning.

He clearly loved his football. Pity he blotted his copy book by going on to later play for the Vile in 1933 but then most of us have skeletons hidden away somewhere.

It was a guess mate but he used to drink in The Spencers Arms in Hagley in the late 70’s. My dad used to go in there in those days as I grew up in Hagley and despite not being old enough to go in the bar Mick was often in there.

Ok, some new questions:

A former Baggie player from the Dutch Antilles?

The youngest player to ever represent the first team (all matches included, friendlies too), 15 years 61 days? That is, until 2010, I don’t know if someone has ”beaten it” afterwards.

The same game saw two other ”older” 15-year-olds make their debuts too (one of them in the squad of today), which two?

Shelton Martis is the answer to number one.

Albion’s youngest ever first team player in a proper match is Frank Hodgetts who up until his death in 2019 was also our oldest surviving player at that time.

I knew Frank as he used my local cafe.

A lovely man, I saw him actually run across the main road to avoid traffic the year before he died, he was about 93 at that time and as fit as a fiddle.

That is actually the answer to the question I asked on here a few days ago that 68 had a stab at.

As for these 15 year olds who played in friendlies it would be a pure guess, Sam Field for one?

How about some trivia questions going back a bit further?

Difficult for me, started supporting in 1978.

Also, missed most of the late 80s and 90s (dark years) due to difficulties following the Albion. That due to us being bad (played in the third division a while for instance) and no internet etc to follow from another country (nowadays you can follow any team anywhere).

All matches, well, competetive ones that is. So called ”wartime fixtures” not included - W G Richardson scored another 9 nine in those evidently.

Jimmy Cookson was the remaining joint # 2 on 9! 🌟

Lee Hughes comes after Astle’s 7 on 5 hat tricks, together with Tom Pearson and Fred Shinton. And the we have Ike Clarke with 4 hat tricks and we have top ten hat trick scorers ever. 😊

I saw Bobby Cram The Wham score a hattrick from full back. 2 were from pens but I think the 3rd was a penalty that was saved and he scored the rebound so not strictly a penalty.

Hi he could hit them and wasn't his nephew Steve a spitting image.

Who made his debut aged 16 and went on to play over 400 times for Albion?

As a kid the footballer I always wanted to be able to play like. Bobby Hope. Would have won a few more Scotland caps but he was a contemporary of Elegant Jim Baxter

Here's one for our older members. What was strange about the 2-2 draw at home to Manchester City in the 1961/62 season. Tony Millington made his debut in this game. You would probably have to have been at this game to know the answer. It has happened in other games but I'm not sure if the Albion have been involved before or since.

Come on then Leicester what is it? I was a kid at the time and would see all home games but I know for certain that I missed that one. Nothing was ever said to me

Was it that Millington was in goal but had no number on his back?. I wasn't there, this is based on my Tony Matthews Complete Record which shows Albion players listed 2-11 but no number 1. The same in the next home game v Man Utd. First time Millington appears with a No1 is the next game v Cardiff. Either that or we didn't have a keeper.

I didn't think goalkeepers wore a number back then. Perhaps I am wrong. I do know that all wore green tops except for internationals when I think it was yellow.

The answer is that Man. City played in their away kit which was claret and white stripes. The referee made them change at half time because it clashed with our stripes. They changed into our away kit which was plain red. I don't know of another time involving Albion that this has happened. I may be wrong of course.
Millington was involved as I think it was his debut. Bert Trautman was in goal for City.

Good one LB never heard that one before. One season before my time.

On a similar vein what was unusual about one I did see Southend v Albion at Roots Hall 1996

If you need it the answer is on the video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1RkodeMsZM

For a bonus point who was the No13 and scorer of Albion's second goal. A cracker.

We were truly rubbish back then but with a front 2 of Pesch and Andy Hunt you felt we always had a chance.

David Smith ex Coventry City winger got the second.
