Thanks for taking over Skandark. I'm off to the game in 5 minutes, so wouldn't have been able to post the team news.

Wrexham keeping pace, up 3-1
What we could achieve with a thumping 5 or 6 goal win today is make it very difficult for Wrexham to pass us, even if we lose and they win on the last day of the season.

Eastleigh only drawing, so we could virtually guarantee 5th with a big winning margin today

What a great team goal... I see Torquay throwing away a chance at the title! At the start of the season there was a thread on here about who would win the title, I put 5 euro on Notts, Stockport, Hartlepool and.... Torquay! 16/1 odds were too tempting... looks like it might be over for them unless they can grab a winner

irish_pie
22-05-2021, 03:37 PM
Anyway back to Notts... they look like a proper team today! Miller simply has to stay, gives full backs nightmares every time he has the ball, Rodders is in the same boat, 2 brilliant players at this level, Chicksen...just wow... So many players who were lost have found direction under IB... the future is looking a little brighter every day...as I type how the hell did we not go 4 up! Ha ha

I think that 4,400 was maximum but it probably depends on the group sizes. 4 together take up less seats distanced than 2 pairs.

As long as the greedy player has obvious quality, is effective in the game and gets into those great positions you mentioned it's all good with me.

It's good to have a player who is a little too greedy due to having ability and confidence, same applies to Roberts when fit.

Exclusive fan backing will be an advantage, we don't want two away games to get to the final. I do think there's a good chance however that Wrexham won't win next weekend and Eastleigh will drop points as they will both be up against fans keen to see their opponents win the only home game they get to see all season.

It's actually looking very bad for Bromley, when Eastleigh overtake them mid-week they'll be 9th with just too many teams ahead of them (after winning today) for play-offs to be a realistic chance.
I doubt they'll go into next weeks game believing they can make it, maybe we can put them out of their misery early.

Does anyone else feel like this style of football is what Ardley was trying to implement at Notts but for whatever reason was unable to do so?

I also wonder where Roberts will fit into this system - a wingback he ain't! A nice dilemma to have I suppose. Excellent win today though, thoroughly pleased for IB and co, the whole team have done incredibly well to turn it around as well as they have. Let's hope we can keep this momentum for the playoffs!

Not an "Anti-Ardley" person, but he did not have the same style. Think his idea was for a defensive based, build from the back idea. Personally I believe that as a defensive player he did not have the plan for how the front third of the team should work. Feel that IB has that knowledge and alot more.

Brindley perfectly illustrates the difference the change in manager has brought. The lad was like a crab before, could only pass sideways ( and backwards).

Now he’s making storming runs deep into the opposition half. Great stuff.

Yeah something a number of us said a while back.

Confidence and man management is key I knowthe players didnt have issues with Ardley that is clear but IB is getting extra out of them.

Its possibly helped with Ross going as he might have been a negative influence as results have picked up dramatically since he went

I don't know, but for his sake he needs to go back to the drawing board if it was.

Ardleyball was like late stage Wengerball.

Burchball reminds me more of Liverpool under Klopp, or Atalanta under Gasperini.

We play so many more vertical passes now. We pass into space now, not just to feet. We take players on. We get bodies in the box from midfield and even from defence. We have so much more width now the wide players aren't under orders to always cut inside. We play much faster now. The players look like they enjoy their football now, and dont seem burdened with patterns and systems (although I'm sure they still have them).

Fantastic afternoon, well worth the wait. I was a bit concerned that with the fans being so spread out it wouldn't feel like a proper game, but that concern evaporated in the first minute. This was what I had missed so badly, it was every bit the real thing. We need to go all out for 5th place, because I can't wait to go back to Meadow Lane again. We played some really good stuff, and 6-0 would have been a more accurate scoreline. Well done to everyone in the ground, the atmosphere was brilliant.

Did nearly 300 simply not bother to turn up when there were people trying to get tickets?

Hopefully if we get a home tie, the maximum crowd allowed will be increased as the demand for tickets will be more than for today.

Great day today good performance and result and great to be in the ground amongst other fans again. The atmosphere 4200 people created was incredible. Bromley need to win next week, a draw for them means they finish behind either Chesterfield or Halifax and even a win for them might not be enough. They’ll certainly be really up for it - might play into our hands as I think we prefer that to teams trying to stop us play and hoping to sneak a win.

Dunno, I've always found a bird in the hand and a bird in the bush equally pleasurable.

Some 431 days since we played Eastleigh in front of fans it was a case of picking up where we left off all that time ago. Except where we beat Eastleigh 4-0 we could have beaten Weymouth 6-0 and that would not have flattered us.

The fans being in the ground were like a new signing and brought life back to Meadow Lane.

It was good to see players we have not seen in real life before and a lot were really impressive. Rodrigues, Chicksen, Miller, Reeves all were outstanding along with all the players from last season.

Our style of football is so refreshing. Always looking to go forward, hungry in desire and effort and creating lots of chances. Almost relentless and unplayable when we are really going at it.

It was the perfect day in many respects, good performance, fans back in, excellent score and clean sheet and securing a playoff place. The seasons minimum objective achieved.

Now we must keep up this intensity and keep going. We are now four games away from being a football league club again. That is a fantastic opportunity and prize for any professional to have on their CV.

I think the League table might pretty much stay the same after next weeks matches. We have Bromley but Rectum and Chessie have tricky away games too. Rectum have Daggers away and Chessie have Halifax away. Draws all round IMHAHO.

Scintillating performance today!
Everyone played their part....being in the ground gives you so much more of an idea as to how good we are!
Love the way Brindley and Chicksen take the ball out of defence like an extra midfielder....our own non league twin versions of Der Kaiser!!!

Brought a tear to my eye when the team came out and what a team to be proud of to a man, miraculously transformed by IB Doyley, buzzing Ardley's buzzed off

The opposition we played today were being kind to them poor. The playoffs will be a real test and thats when we will find out what we are as a team, how our formation stands up to the best sides in the league and if our style of play can come out on top

we have beat Sutton , Wrexham twice played Torquay of the park where they sneaked a point , maidenhead had all to play for when we destroyed them at theirs , Bromley snatched a point here.
I think that might answer your question , we have no one to fear not even Eastleigh !

We are looking better now than at any time under Ardley and are unrecognisable to earlier this season however That is indeed a ridiculous statement#noagenda

He's been sacked, it's gone, it's old news. We are in the playoffs again. Can we go one better? Or will be come unstuck against quality opposition like last season?

I have every confidence in our players and head coaches ability and have seen enough over 41 games to form the conclusion that on current form whatever players are out there and whatever formation we play we have nobody to fear in this league and can beat anyone. Obviously this is Notts we are talking about so it's not to be mistaken for arrogance.

We have been more than a match for the best sides in the league this season. For example we have beaten Sutton twice, drew against Torquay twice (but performed and did more than enough to win away), beaten Wrexham twice, beaten and drew against Stockport.

We beat Chesterfield but lost at home and lost to Hartlepool twice. So it's only Hartlepool where we've come unstuck on both occasions. Not bad in the grand scheme of things.

It's performances and results against teams outside the top ten that have been found wanting at times this season. Thankfully we won't play those kind of teams in the play-offs.

Exactly, we've got nothing to fear going into these play offs.

Continue to play as we are and even if we do go out, it won't be with a whimper

That's all you can ask Carlton. Teams suffer bad luck, awful refereeing decisions which can both be decisive but as long as we give it our all and leave nothing back in the dressing we can have no complaints.

If we fail to get promotion this season, dependent as usual on retention and recruitment, we should be in a very positive mood for promotion next season with or without the final parachute payment.

We have to go up this season for me. The nucleus of this side will be gone at the end of this campaign. The older players will go and We will lose a number of players to league clubs if we dont go up and may do so even of we do get promoted. The side next year will be massively different one way or another. Most of our players have never played beyond Div2 and have dropped out of even that league. We have to be realistic about our chances

I think we've got a great chance of going up this season but even if we didn't, I would expect IB with a window to dominate this league next year. I even think we could do something in the league above with the right players coming in if we go up this season. I spoke to my dad today who went yesterday and he said it was night and day. Watching their keeper play it to the left back then back to him then the right back because of our press he said was great. For me the change of manager was at exactly the right time.

The nucleus that would have failed to get us up in 2 consecutive seasons? Unlike you I’m not concerned. I trust in the club to bring in players that hopefully have us challenging in which ever division we are in. Despite our league placing we are still attractive to potential players.
The main thing is that players like Wootton, Roberts and Rodrigues are all under contract so we have players of genuine attacking quality.
I would also be optimistic in keeping a fair chunk of the defence and hope we can sign Ellis and Miller.
So in that respect I don’t think it’s **** or bust.
Do you think the squad we have now would be good enough for League 2? I don’t. I honestly think we would need a good 5 or 6 to compliment the squad.

What Notts78 said I concur, excellent post.

We've have many a season where the nucleus of the squad remains and we do no better or worse. Conversely we've had many a season where we've made sweeping changes and replaced too many. It's a tough balance to get right and although the overall recruitment has been (rightly) questioned I have faith in the owners, the system, the football radar analysis and the head coach.

Above all I was bored of the old traditional approach, so this relatively unique new approach is what I'm fully buying into#allin

Why will we lose players to League Clubs?

Owners are under no financial pressure to sell and there's no do or die when it comes to promotion and have gone on record saying they are patient.

They're trying to build something to last, not achieve promotion and bust

One of the most notable things about our squad is how many have been regulars at League One level or above, to be honest.
