We share a footballing rivalry with the ssb like no other having played them more than any other club and shared battles in finals, countless semi finals, for leagues, europe, top six, relegation you name it, the games have an edge and when dundee were out the league for nearly a decade the rivalry and atmosphere intensified even more during the noughties and beyond

League openers are no different as Sunday will be the 9th time we kick off a top flight season against our 'friends' up north, some good ones in there, best memories from this list?

1981/82 United 4-1 Aberdeen 10,598
1982/83 United 2-0 Aberdeen 11,683
1986/87 United 2-1 Aberdeen 11,292
1993/94 United 1-1 Aberdeen 13,881
2005/06 United 1-1 Aberdeen 12,404
2007/08 United 1-0 Aberdeen 12,496
2014/15 Aberdeen 0-3 United 16,471 (2,016 Arabs)
2015/16 United 0-1 Aberdeen 10,706
2021/22 Aberdeen ?-? United

The majority have been at Tannadice, A few standout, 2005 was hyped as we beat them to Lee Millers signature and had record season ticket sales at the time on the back of how 04/05 ended and they were on the up under tangoman and did bring 5k tbf, Lee Miller put us in front early but the was the high point, the rest of the game and season, the less said the better

My two favourites, 2007, what a day, what an atmosphere, Levein had his first summer window, we had the friendly with barca the week before, szamo was introduced, finally we had a keeper, Dods, Prince, Flood, plus Gomis more upto speed along with others like Hunt, Wilkie and Conway, we felt this was the time for us to end years of crap, this was the start of the second best period in our history, the game itself against a sheep side who had finished 3rd ahead of big spending hearts, electric atmosphere played at high tempo from the off, disaster as Flood is sent off after two bookings 30 mins in... The way we battled the rest of the game, Robson was immense and despite a man down for an hour happy feet popping up at the death with the winner, honestly it was scenes, what a moment, was buzzing for a week, amazing "ten men we've only got ten men" no longer were Utd going to be the mugs we had become for the first 6/7 years of the century, and weren't - certainly not for a good 8 years anyway, great days

2014 what a day that was, big United support, well up for it, immense atmosphere and got a big win over the sheep, who had got the better of us the season before, plus wearing one of our best ever away kits, despite us having the flair as such they had been more street wise previous meetings, on this day with Fojut and Morris debut, we looked like we had a bit more toughness that had been lacking, ok we missed Arob and Gauld but still had Ciftci, Armstrong and GMS, we'd have gone to may battling for 2nd but for the sales at the end of January - what a difference a year makes as can be seen by the line up for the 2015 opener vs the same opponents

Think you can also fairly ask which Aberdeen team will show up too. Just as Jekyll and Hyde as we are, maybe even more so!

Definitely an opportunity for us in this game. Fingers crossed result is the same as last visit.

Think you only joined in this thread because you misread the title,

Fuchs was a doubt with a knock, that's a blow, Liam Smith is out best right back so that's good, Harkes, give the guy a break, was brilliant at Pittodrie in April

why did you have to mention double strike Admin there? it was great thinking on the really important games we have had v Aberdeen. Our fair share of wins and losses etc
