Budapest is a beautiful city Balan.I live about 15km outside near the Hungaroring Formula 1 track.The Parliament building, the Chain Bridge, Heroes Square, The Citadel, Fishermans Bastion, the Buda Castle and Royal Palace all worth a visit.There is a very vibrant Jewish quarter on the Pest side of the river in the District 7 around Dohány utca(tobacco street)centred around the synagogue triangle-the one in dohány utca is the biggest in Europe.

I fell in love with the city whilst driving through in 1990 and moved here in 1991.A word of warning to anybody visiting at this time of year is that the seasonal ragweed allergy is at its peak from August 15-September 15 which is the most severe in Europe.I do not leave the house because I suffer from ragweed allergy and it is really bad so if you have hay fever or allergies bring your medication.

A very interesting tour CiB. Would love to visit some day. Glad you warned about the ragweed as I have chronic hay fever.

Not been to Hungary for a few years now but I have nothing but good things to say about it. The people are great, the buildings in the larger cities e.g. Budapest are redolent of the Austro-Hungarian empire at it's pomp, incredible art ********* with major works by major artists, echoes of it's former decadence everywhere and plenty to do and see.
My only slight criticism if you can call it that is that for a man who likes his curries and spicy middle eastern food, it's a bit of a struggle to find even in Budapest. It's there but not obvious and I can only manage a paprika diet for a week or so :)

I was in Hungary for a short visit maybe a week I think it was in 1965 I visited a friend who once lived in Blackburn , he invited me to visit him there. He lived in Pest, all I can remember was a lucky game I saw Ferencvárosi against Manchester United. But my impression was that Hungary was some 20 years then, behind Britain. But I did not really see Hungary just stayed in Pest.

Egy,kettõ,három,négy,öt,hat,hét,nyolc,kilenc,tíz.

It took me 4-5 years to be able to hold a very basic conversation.Now I can speak like a native(almost).Many natives ask if I have Hungarian parents or one parent so I must be ok.Apparently one of the most difficult languages in the whole world.There is nothing even similar.

Hungarian alphabet:-
a, á, b, c, cs, d, dz, dzs, e, é, f, g, gy, h, i, í, j, k, l, ly, m, n, ny, o, ó, ö, ő, p, r, s, sz, t, ty, u, ú, ü, ű, v, z, zs.

Furthermore the pronunciations are completely different to English.....
