Lots of reports the last few days that we're still interested. But also that Dortmund are possibly eyeing him up as a replacement for Haaland. If he has that much potential i hope we land him

Hope so but if it comes to a straight choice between us and Dortmund, I know who I think he'll choose.

Aye, although the atmosphere at St.James' recently sort of reminds me of Dortmund's fans. They put on a pretty good spectacle too:

Dortmund have signed
Karim Adeyemi from FC Saltzburg to replace Haaland.

Now, the forward has broken his silence on his decision to remain with Reims rather than make the move to Newcastle.

“I have a lot of respect for that big club,” he told L’Equipe. “But it was all happening very quickly; the timing wasn’t right.

“It was better to stay here, to play a full season, to establish myself.”

Rumours from foreign journalists that a 30m fee with add ons has been agreed

Absolutley no idea about how reliable this website is, mind. Anyone?

£36 million fee agreed including add-ons according to the Mail (who were right about Dan Ashworth coming last week)

Quite a lot of people are now reporting it as well.

Most saying, he has agreed a 5 year deal and it is just hte fine detail we have to work out with Reims.

Would be good to get in early.

L'equipe reporting that Reims will get 15% of any resale fee:

https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transferts-accord-reims-newcastle-pour-ekitike/1336388

I've only seen clips of him on Youtube so can only assume he's a decent player if we're willing to spend £36 mill. Probably one for the future at 19 years old

Well apprently PSG wanted him as well before Mbappe signed his new contract and he's being compared to a young Henry.

From Mark Douglas on Twitter

"Newcastle making a breakthrough on striker hunt nice and early. Hugo Ekitike signing looking "more than likely" now, according to someone with knowledge of the deal. They want at least one more striker... #nufc"

Can that one more striker be Darwin Nunez please?! :D

The fact that we're going for exciting young talent who the big European clubs are keeping tabs on is...well, a bit of a mind****, to be honest. ;)

We're not used to excitement and anticipation-it makes a nice change from waiting in vain until, on dealine day, we hear Keith Downie saying 'the word from the club is that there'll be no business done today' followed by the inevitable excuse from the club 'we couldn't get him over the line'.

Now we can say 'what a time to be an NUFC fan...without any sarcasm!

I wonder if Ekitike has seen Bruno move to the Prem and take like a duck to water?

Also wonder if Sven Botman will see other Ligue 1 players come to us and fancy it himself

Exciting times and the window isn't even open yet!

That is from January

He is referring to January but made those comments a couple of weeks ago to L'equipe

Guardian now also reporting that the deal is close:

The Daily Express are reporting that Ekitike "has no plan to join Magpies" which contradicts most other sources:

The Express also said we're going to sack Eddie and appoint Mourinho a couple of weeks ago so they've probably got something against us

From Fabrizio Romano (ex SkySports Italia journalist who is quite trustworthy apparently):

"Hugo Ekitike deal. Newcastle and Reims have full agreement on €30m fee plus €5m add-ons, agent is now in talks with Newcastle after being given permission by Reims. ⭐️ #NUFC

Work in progress as Newcastle have been leading the race for weeks."

Was a later tweet, that he retweeted (rather than him actually saying) that we've agreed an 80K a week deal with him.

Seems like we're getting closer to our first signing of the summer

Seems not to be too keen on coming to the toon so I wouldn`t touch him with a barge pole, totally wrong mentality to sign a player who`s not sure if he wants to come

Why do you think he's not keen? I can completely understand why he didn't want to come in January but from what i've read he does now and it's just taking time because he's away at the France under 21 tournament

Hope you`re right Albert, just read quite a few reports saying he`s not keen on north of england. Having said that, every man and his dog seem to think they know what`s happening re us and transfers. When I see a player in our shirt I`ll know they`re here.

BBC are saying we're in talks but "there is a long way to go" so who knows?
