I predict we'll play Parkgate....

Next Donny home or away doesn't really matter

Buxton, Guisely, Matlock, Rochdale, Scunny just so our probable new line can fill their boots and gain a bit of confidence before the season kicks off.

It’s gone up from £3/4 for concessions these last two years and capacity has reduced from well over 1500 to a Thousand !!

Guess it’s Friday so they can sell more beer in the bar ?? Plus going to Croatia on Monday so have to get bags packed !

Surprised Scunny ain’t in that lot but then again, they’ve no team to use anyway.

So if we got someone like Liverpool or Man City and charged 30,40,50 quid a ticket would you go Archie knowing it was only a pre-season friendly? These days it's more about rotating the players, seeing how they perform together and what their fitness levels are like rather than an exhibition to the fans. Don't forget, to our opponents these fixtures 'might' look attractive, not all teams can find opponents above their level and PW might not want to tip his hand against teams we will be facing in the regular season.

wouldnt turn out to any of our pre-season friendlies at home if admission prices were 30,40,50p, .....Liverpool or Man.c who mentioned them, 30,40,50 quid a ticket, slight exaggeration there cam.

That's what they charge here Archie (and more) when those teams come to the USA to play in pre-season 'tournaments' so I'm guessing they'd want similar revenue streams if they were to not do that but play at Rotherham...etc. As you say, if you wouldn't even pay 50p where's the incentive to play against 'big' clubs when the object of the exercise has nothing to do with the level of competition/results and more to do with the other aspects I mentioned.

PS Did you see my question about Meadow Avenue on the Icky to Derby thread? https://boards.footymad.net/showthread.php?t=38291274

“All 20 Premier League clubs have unanimously agreed to maintain the £30 price cap on away tickets for the next three seasons”

Still no cap in the EFL as far as I know.

Cam, its the guys who have nothing in their lives only RUFC that i feel sorry for (and theres plenty of em) not much to look forward to playing them 4 teams mentioned, a few years ago we played Leicester, a german team Mainze if i remember correctly also Hearts, that sort of opposition i would gladly go and pay going rate.

I see Archie. I guess they can at least look forward to the fact that almost every game we'll be playing next season will be against a 'big' team.

Parkgate FC is usually a good day out and puts funds into a local non league club.

I don't read too much into friendlies, as long as we don't pick up any long term injuries like what's happened before.
They are what they are.... friendlies.

MT, no thanks pal. I wouldn’t like to see another 7-0 thrashing by Man City. How demoralising would that be to the players?

Let them have less challenging games with goal’s aplenty to help boost morale and confidence.

I hope coaching staff analyse the pitch carefully before game today.Mansfield have installed drainage system over the summer and due to this this is the first and only home friendly.plus the hot weather we have had recently I just hope pitch is ok and we don’t put our players at risk….I remember Accrington doing this type of work other year and it looked like a ploughed field as it didn’t take too well…hopefully it will be ok but probably worth caution..
