Hi dee hi campers!

what's cracking lads and lasses?

We're apparently launched a £43m bid for the 23 yr old No.6 from AC Milan. Milan are currently carrying £110m in debt and don't look likely to win anything anytime soon with Napoli looking like the modern day dominant force in Europe's 2nd most pointless of the 'Big 5' leagues.

Armed with our 'WarChest' (how much I despise the garbage spouted by the press to desperately cling on to relevance) of 50p & a Wham bar. NUFC leave no stone unturned in bidding for yet another 50million Euro + player.

We only have 75m to spend yet we're giving Leicester 'just the tip' for Maddison at around £45m, initial bid for Barella of £50m & we've got a soft offer of £50m in for Szoboszlai (never imagined I'd become fluent in spelling sz based Hungarian names in my life time!). All offers subject to flux and add-ons.

No doubt we'll end up spending close to £300m this window as we bring in the 4-6 world class players the club/team require to compete at the top top levels.

Anyway... too my point.

Player profiles.

Barella is a like for like with Bruno from what I've seen & can gather. World class, excellent at everything and walks into our midfield no doubt.

Tonali though has the ability to do the things Bruno does so well as a marauding 8 however he has the more specialist skill set of a Pirlo-esque, deep laying No.6 ball winning play maker.

This is what EH and most of the fans have been crying out for. To release Bruno and enable him to affect the game higher up the field.

Signing Tonali would bring into question the need to sign Maddison and potentially focus our financial clout on the Hungarian captain who offers a completely different profile to the rest of the current midfield.

I guess time will tell and the questions will be answered soon enough!

Howay the Board!

i dont believe a word of it, just like the Barella transfer last week. I dont know anything at all about these 2 players as i have no interest in Italian football, from what i have heard, they are world class.

This instantly rings alarm bells, how will we buy established world class players at knockdown prices and flaunt it all over the media. The bigger clubs will just come in and blitz us out of the water with wages .

Our transfer business is done in quiet, we brought Dan Ashworth in and waited over a year to get him because he has a proven track record of finding top players at next to nothing prices,

Mac Alister for 8m euro's
Caicedo for 5m euro's
cucurella for 18m euro's

so why would we spend massive money on players at Milan etc when we have this bloke running the show.

I dont even believe we are in for Maddison, he will take up 50% of our budget.

Dan Ashworth has been brought in to sign the next gen players. His remit will also be to identify the class of player like Bruno. His remit for Brighton was to identify players as you mentioned above. His job with Newcastle United is to sign player of Champions League quality.

Yankuba Minteh is an Ashworth signing, an eye on the future someone who will be in the squad in a season or two & a first team regular shortly after.

To maintain a top 4 presence and make a good account of ourselves in the Champions League the calibre of player Ashworth will be identifying will be the kind of player with development profile of a Bruno, Botman, Isak.

These players are not 8-15million Euro players. Not for NUFC. We aren't a footballing minnow like Brighton. Everyone knows who we are and what our financial muscle is. Which is why the thread is called 'Tonali makes more sense that Barella'. Tonali is not the finished article. He's still got a lot of developing to do, a high ceiling and plenty to grow into. At 23 he's fits that age profile we're looking at.

EH has been very clear regarding the profile of player we are looking at bringing in. Direct first team competitors to the current squad, not squad bulk.

I'm sure there will be some interested low key gems brought in however like the Isak deal the club will go out and sign 2-3 high ticket items. Whether that is a Tonali or a Barella remains to be seen however we're not gonna be bringing in a load of unknown, unheard of lads to join the squad for the biggest campaign in Newcastle United's history.

I have the utmost respect and trust in Ashworth's ability, the scouting network we are build and the boards ambition to get things right. However, it would be foolish to think we are just gonna chance it with a bunch of uncut gems when we have the financial reach to bring in assured quality which will grow, develop and secure the clubs position at consistent top 4 side.

Personal terms are always quite important, aren't they?

Tonali would be a good signing, I was more excited over Barella though.

Personal life

Sandro Tonali has claimed on multiple occasions that growing up as a young child, he was always fascinated with bridges, notably England’s Tyne Bridge, which he claims ‘stole his heart’. Tonali's favourite item on the Gregg's menu is a steak bake. In terms of Italian football, Tonali has been a Milan fan since childhood.

Isn’t it nice to have hope and confidence in a transfer window for a change rather than worry and despair?

It's just like a dream come true after almost a decade and a half in the doldrums looking at the transfer windows, time after time, in despair while other lesser clubs bought decent players and improved their positions relative to us.

It's a relief that that's just a bad dream in the past and I revel in the thought that Fatso won't be able to keep his eyes off what goes on at the Toon now knowing that all of this success was within his grasp had he not been stupid, selfish, and greedy.

Apperently Ashworth in Milan to tie up deal. Terms agreed with Tonali and it's just finally tieing up with Milan - looking around £55 million plus add ons.

Again, apperently Tonali likes the project idea of Toon and is pushing for deal himself - photos of his agent with the Milan head honcho to push through surfaced earlier and then was announced on SSN that Ashworth was in Milan.

However, as usually - till he's got the shirt on etc. XD

…and I was having such a pleasant evening.

It's good to read that garbage as the lies and ignorance we all knew it was at the time. The funny thing is that a double digit IQ cabbage heed and his ilk actually think that we are actually dumb enough to just believe, accept and go along with the self-service lies that come out of that fat stupid ugly smashed face.

We have the 14 yr case study of how to completely destroy an history famous old club.

The PiF, Staveley ownership have made every single diametrically opposite decision from that fat clown and his cronies and we're seeing the excellent progress and solid bedrock of a truly elite professional group of people.

Delightful isn't it!

Great time to be a Geordie!

Fee has been suggested at €60-70million. Let's say €65 for argument sake. Converted to real money = £55,823,751.62

All transfer fees are subject to amortisation (total price is broken down equally across the length of the contract). We've signed Tonali on a 6 yr contract.

Meaning 55,823,751.62 / 6 = £9,303,958.60/season - that's a bargain!

Also all the FFP talk ... yeah it's nonsense.

We can sign another 5 or 6 Tonali's and still stay within our £75m 'budget' :D

Quality with the ball, deadballs, final passes and the like seem to be his thing. How many games did we watch where we couldn'tpick the lock. I would also like to see a few more goals from set pieces.

Aye, we need someone who can pick a pass when teams are sitting deep.

Like the fact that he's described as 'press resistant ', too. Whoever our next left back is needs to be like that too as that was an area teams picked up on with Dan Burn being there. (Not trying to have a go at him but teams who pressed high found him an easy target at times, I thought)

Can you see a 4-2-3-1 with him and Bruno in the 2?

Zippity
24-06-2023, 09:11 PM
Honestly not sure. That would leave us a little light unless the 3 was very fluid and big Joe could move back to help out.

Thinking more a 4 3 3 with Gordon or Maxi either side of Isak/Wilson and hopefully someone new on the right to replace Miggy.

Ragatino
25-06-2023, 06:19 AM
Can you see a 4-2-3-1 with him and Bruno in the 2?

I think it's clear that Eddie Howe is gonna drill multiple tactics during pre-season.

We were excellent with the 4-3-3 last season, the squad know that one perfectly. As Eddie Howe is an innovative modern manager. He is constantly developing his tactics and team shape.

This will see the team be able to adapt to 4-2-3-1 and even hybrid 4-4-2 & 4-5-1 as we get better, higher calibre more versatile players in the squad. We've seen in some matches last season that teams set up to let us have the ball, sitting back and making a meat wall to break down. We didn't do very well in those matches. We excelled when we were pressing and causing mistakes.

I expect to see us continue with the high press, high energy style EH has become synonymous with. However as mentioned he will evolve the tactics with the extended tool box of quality players.

Having a squad that included Szoboszlai & Tonali rather than Fraser & Hendrick means in game management will see us switch to a double pivot 4-2-3-1 from a 4-3-3 if we are not having success.

With better players EH will have more flexibility technically and tactically.

so, in short Sclox me old china, yes I can see it hahaha

Think his price is a lot more than we can pay given ffp...Liverpool are apparently looking to 'break the bank' for him which tells you what bracket he's in.

Think his price is a lot more than we can pay given ffp...Liverpool are apparently looking to 'break the bank' for him which tells you what bracket he's in.

Also great to see how our influence on transfers is causing financial problems for the Fraudies. Liverpool, Spuds etc will be forced to pay the asking price for players. We're linked with a lot of the same targets. I don't believe we have any genuine interest however by registering an interest the selling club & the agent will both say to a Liverpool "we have another bidder from the same league who are willing to match the asking price with 60%+ up front".

It's very smart tactics. Disruption of the establishment. These behind the scene shenanigans are the bigger reason by the fraudies are really upset. They can not dictate the market between them anymore.

Levy has pedigree for lowballing his way to excellent business, the Maddison signing is a perfect example. We are in the driver's seat with the deal. We can offer 10-15£million less than Spurs as we have UCL football and they don't.

It's so satisfying to rub this behaviour in the faces of the fans of these clubs who looked down their noses and mocked us during the Ashley years.

Satisfying!
