View Full Version : 60 YAP's Correct Score Competition 2023/24

Three days to go before the 2023/24 season kicks off. Notts opening game is at Sutton United, and we’re 8/11 favourites to win our first game back in the EFL. Sutton are 15/4, and the draw is 13/5.

Here’s a recap of the main rules of the competition:
1. Each participant begins the season with a bank of 60 YAPS
2. Those who predict the score correctly have their bank increased by the odds for that score
3. Everyone else has 1 YAP deducted from their bank whether they made a prediction or not
4. Predictions must be made before the team is announced (1 hour before kick-off)
5. Please enter your prediction on SwalePie's score, scorers, and attendance thread each game
6. Predictions made on this thread will be ignored
7. An updated YAPs Table will appear with the odds for the next game
8. Zero tolerance - Anyone who, on this thread, engages in the childish squabbles that regularly hijack other threads will be immediately excluded from the competition

Brilliant news.
Just one query, when you re-launch a currency, don't you have to rename it? New YAPs, Nuevo YAPOs or can we just continue to deal in YAPs?

Thanks for doing it again. The golden rule is don't forget to predict.

An unused YAP is a lost YAP.

Unsurprisingly no one correctly predicted the score in our first game back in the EFL. There’s no need for a table as we all go into the game against Lincoln on 59 YAPS. How will the Pies react to the 5-1 capitulation? Switching to a back four with Chicksen on the left may be one option. Of the 60 entries in the first game, 43 opted for a Notts win, 15 for a draw and only 2 went for a defeat. It will be interesting to see the prediction trend for our EFL Cup game against the Imps.

Notts are 21/20 to win; the draw 5/2; Lincoln a generous 12/5

Our third game of the season is against Grimsby, who began their league campaign with a goalless draw at home to AFC Wimbledon and followed that with a 2-0 defeat at Mansfield in the EFL Cup.

Notts are 4/6 to win; the draw 3/1; Grimsby 4/1

Nigel_M was the only one to predict a 2-0 defeat against Lincoln and is our early leader. Against Lincoln, 12 went for a Notts win, 17 for a defeat and 8 for a draw.

This season's new feature is how we’re doing against the bookies overall. Against Sutton, 60 incorrect predictions saw us get off to the worst possible start. There were 36 incorrect against Lincoln, and thanks to Nigel_M’s 18/1 winner, we ended with a net loss of 18 YAPS.

As there were 60 predictions for the Southend game and only 37 for Lincoln, I don't think you were the only one. Early days.

Games are coming thick and fast, and Tuesday sees us away to Morecambe. Who can forget Sol Campbell’s debut for us in the same fixture 14 years ago, much as we’d like to?

We appear to have uncovered another gem in Dan Crowley if Saturday’s game is anything to go by. And he topped it off with an excellent header to win the match and kickstart our season.

Again, only one person predicted the correct score, and with odds of 22/1, 51Magpie takes over the top spot. Even so, with 58 incorrect predictions, the group still gave a net 36 YAPS to the bookies.

For the third game in a row, only one person correctly predicted the score. Magpies 1959 joins the table in third place.

This weekend we’ve got a double-header as I’ve added the Women’s World Cup Final to the competition.

Five correct 3-1 predictions for the Doncaster game. It would have been six but for Jeekay56 pointing out that Jockpie made his correct forecast three minutes after the deadline of 2.00 pm. Back to normal for the England v Spain game where i961pie was the only one to correctly predict England's 1-0 defeat.

The first month of the season is behind us and there's 15 names on the leader board, and more than four times that many in the Also Rans. Early days yet. If the last time I ran this competition is anything to go by, I'll get my first correct score sometime in April next year. So here's a tip - avoid making the same prediction that I do, this side of Christmas.

Top of the table, a 3-1 home win against the best team we've played so far, Macca scores 2 more, and I get on the leaderboard; what a great Saturday! But this weekend, the plaudits go to durhampie, who correctly predicted the score for the third Notts game on the bounce and rightfully takes his place at the top of the leaderboard. Full table on Thursday.

Just had a quick tot-up of the yellow cards we've had in our first 7 games. I make it 19.
If my maths are correct, 6 players are currently on 2 yellows:
Austin, Baldwin, Bostock, Jones, Nemane and O'Brien

A dismissal attempt from the reining champion! There still plenty of time to retain the title though with a few good value bets ...x

Unsurprisingly, no one predicted our result against Forest Green, and so the Leaderboard is as you were, apart from us all being one YAP poorer. Our final game of September sees us away to Colchester. 20th in the table with a game in hand, they beat Tranmere 2-0 and drew 1-1 with Mansfield in their last two home games. With Gillingham playing Mansfield, there’s a chance we could increase our lead at the top of the table if the two results go our way.

“You’ve got to be in it to win it.”

Pedro is one of only three of the fifty-two participants in the ‘Also Rans’ who is an exception to the rule. He’s predicted in each of the twelve rounds so far without success.

Early days yet; keep trying, Pedro. Will you or your pal thefulltenyards be the first to break out of the ‘Also Rans’ pen?

Fingers crossed today’s the day for Pedro, as he’s forecast the same score as I have.

I think I might be the third member of "the 3".

I've only been close once, when a stoppage time own goal denied me YAPs against Wolves U-21s.

I was thinking that! Unless anyone has a better idea, I suggest games that end in a score with a "no quote" are declared VOID, and no one loses a YAP. What does everyone out there think?

I'm also considering combining the two threads so that the score prediction thread for each game will begin with the odds and the leaderboard update.

Seeing as "no quote" is seen as incredibly unlikely, I suggest anyone who predicts it should get the highest odds offered for a quoted score for that result. To explain it further, in today's game any of the 7 no quotes for a Colchester win should be paid at 500/1, and either of the 2 no quotes for a Notts win should be paid at 400/1.

60YearsAPie

Regarding scores with “No quote”, I prefer EP’s idea to my own, but I don’t think giving all the “No quotes” the highest odds offered, in this case, 250/1 for Swindon, would be correct. Compare the Notts odds for 5-4 and 6-1, 150/1 and 80/1 respectively. Yet we would give 250/1 for both scores in Swindon’s case. It seems somewhat academic in any case, so let’s keep it simple and say for the purpose of the competition, predictions will only be accepted where odds are quoted for that score.

If you think Swindon will win 7-0 on Tuesday, and they do, you’re a master tipster, but you’ll get no YAPS. Although I don't agree with my two great-granddaughters who think you should be be thrown out the competition for making such a prediction. ;D

250/1 is exactly what's being offered for Swindon winning 5-4 (Bet365) and 6-1 (Skybet).

But they only offer 200/1 for 6-2. I use Bet365 for the odds, but if you'd like to scour all the online bookies for the best odds on every possible score for each game, I'd be happy to use your odds for the competition.
