recall Jimmy saying after that he hadn't wanted to upset his players as they have bonuses to earn and put food on the table for their families, or words to that effect. 'Life is for the living' he said.

What a great and unique man he was. Such fond memories of him.

I only know Bob Hazell from that Vale team, but what a player he was for Wolves and QPR in his day.

the goalkeeper was former Manchester City backup to Joe Corrigan, but he did make over 100 apps, including that mental afternoon at Meadow Lane in 1985.

Paul Maguire had been with Stoke in the top flight

And here's Bob Hazell if anybody doesn't remember him

They had a tough life in those days, Paul Maguire was no older than 28 in that photo!

According to wikipedia, his birthdate is 21 August 1956.
That sticker is from the Football 82 collection with the photos all taken summer 1981, so he might have still been 24, or just turned 25.

This might just be the greatest football mug shot of all time.......

And a contender for best ever vintage football image..... Bog Roll, a dog and jam packed terraces.

I remember being at Stoke when Notts beat them 1-0 in the FA Cup.
Darren Davis scored the goal , his only goal for Notts.

I also remember Bob Hazell being sent off at The Arsenal. The home fans were obviously being abusive to BH and he confronted someone in the crowd.
Clive Thomas was the ref and cuffed big Bob at the back of the head and pointed to the tunnel.
Imagine a referee doing that these days.

I've just found this.....

Tuesday 17 May 1983 - Liverpool Echo
"FORMER Wigan manager Larry Lloyd is set to take over at Third Division Bristol Rovers from Bobby Gould"

This was 6 weeks before he took the Notts job.

I feel ill.

🤣🤣 at least he took us to the top of the pile (div 1 before it became Premier) for a few days I doubt we will ever see that again.
