Sunday 24th May, 4:00pm | London Stadium

Image: https://i.postimg.cc/8FVKMcHp/West-Ham-PL.png (https://postimg.cc/8FVKMcHp)

What a way to end a season. Leeds United head to the London Stadium on Sunday not as scared survivors desperately hanging on, but as a side unbeaten in eight games, fresh off a club awards night on Tuesday, and with their manager in positive talks about the future. The pressure is firmly on the other lot this weekend and Farke knows it.

West Ham are in absolute bits. They sit 18th on 36 points, two behind Spurs, and their survival equation couldn't be more brutal. They need to win and they need Everton to beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane. A draw does nothing for them. Even if they win and Spurs draw, they're still down on goal difference, with Tottenham sitting 12 goals better off. Three consecutive defeats have dragged them to this point and the London Stadium crowd will be a mix of desperation and fury on Sunday. A fanbase rightly furious that their club is even in this position. Leeds couldn't have asked for a better stage to finish the season.

Farke was in good form at his press conference on Friday. "After a fantastic season, we want the best possible finish. We are hungry to extend our unbeaten run and finish as this group deserves." He was also keen to make clear that the players aren't thinking about prize money or what a higher finish means financially for the club. It's about pride. That matters. And he mentioned that even in training this week the lads were still going at it, still competing hard in every exercise. Eight games unbeaten doesn't happen by accident and it doesn't stop happening just because the season is nearly done.

The injury news is a bit grim though. Gruev is done for the season, Gudmundsson and Okafor are both still out, and Stach won't make this one after his ankle injury last week, although Farke was reassuring on that front saying he'd have been fine if the game was next week. The big fresh blow is Longstaff, who had hernia surgery on Wednesday and is obviously a non-starter. With Gruev already missing, losing Longstaff in midfield as well is far from ideal. Struijk and Bogle are both back in training which is good news, though Bogle is touch and go depending on how his body responds. Farke admitted it's "a bit tricky" but also said "we try to find solutions" and he's been doing exactly that all season long.

On paper Leeds should win this. West Ham have lost three on the bounce and look like a side already mentally halfway out the door. Their goal difference of -22 tells its own story. Leeds have beaten Brighton, drawn at Spurs and hammered Burnley recently. The bookies have West Ham as slight favourites given it's a home game with everything on the line, but form and momentum say otherwise. Final day atmosphere might give the Hammers a temporary lift but it's hard to see where their goals come from against a Leeds side that has been defensively solid for months.

The bigger picture is that this has been a genuinely brilliant season and Sunday is a chance to put a proper full stop on it. A win could move us as high as 12th and extends that unbeaten run. And yes, it could also send Tottenham Hotspur to the Championship, which would be a very welcome bonus. Farke is talking about long-term vision with the board, five-year plans, a "trustful atmosphere" with the club. He's going nowhere. The journey is just getting started. Let's go and finish this the right way.

Chezzer (OOEx) and Orgoner (OOxE) joined our resident slackarse, Hopey (OOxE), in scoring a dozen. Our collective PL beach towels are getting ready, that is unless everyone wants me to do the WC thing, which has the added bonus of totally irritating WTF? XD

Orgoner has somehow managed to put a nine point gap between himself and Ozleeds. Several of the usual suspects are close behind His Ozness and all will be looking for a fast PL Dash to possibly secure a league and cup double.

Hopey was missing, but his default 2-1 home win strategy worked well despite his absence - see above. Scabby get!

There was one (title losing) draw, so Johnny_Default stands at 96. Any Strike One, Strike Two or Strike Three posters would've scored three, two or one for their total lack of effort.

The average active weekly score was 7.1.

Either way I think we are looking at a draw. One apiece Gnonto 78 min. I?ve given up thinking I can win this season.

Leeds United - v - Brighton ***Matchday Thread***

Sunday 17th May, 3:00pm | Elland Road

Image: https://i.postimg.cc/RqNkX1wH/Brighton-PL.png (https://postimg.cc/RqNkX1wH)

Leeds United play their final home Premier League game of the season on Sunday as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Elland Road, before rounding off the campaign the following week with an away trip to West Ham. With survival already secured three games ago, Daniel Farke's side sit in 14th place on 44 points after what has been a remarkable return to the top flight. Brighton, meanwhile, arrive in 7th on 53 points, keen to cement their place in the upper half of the table ahead of their own final-day encounter with Manchester United next week.

Farke has been refreshingly ambitious in his pre-match assessments, making clear that simply surviving was never the ceiling, it was the floor. With the first team firmly established in the Premier League and the ground redevelopment underway, the German has spoken openly about what comes next. He is not the right man, he insists, if the goal is merely to tread water. He wants a project with genuine ambition, and the club must now sit down and define exactly what that looks like heading into the second season of Premier League football.

If that wasn't enough to chew on, Farke also faces a significant injury crisis for Sunday's game. Okafor, Gudmundsson and Bogle are all ruled out, while Buonannotte is ineligible to face his parent club. More worryingly, both Pascal Struijk, who hasn't featured in training since hobbling off against Spurs, and Ethan Ampadu, who is battling illness, are listed as major doubts. Farke has hinted that teenagers could find themselves on the bench, which underlines just how stretched the squad is going into this one.

Brighton arrive at Elland Road in the kind of form that should concern any opposition, regardless of injuries. Fabian H?rzeler's side have won four of their last five, including a stunning 3?0 dismantling of Chelsea and an equally emphatic 3?0 victory over Wolves last weekend. They were edged out 3?1 at Newcastle but have otherwise looked sharp, cohesive and clinical. At 7th in the table, they represent exactly the kind of benchmark Leeds will be targeting next season, a club that has developed steadily, played attractive football and earned a permanent place in the upper half of the Premier League.

Leeds' own recent form has given genuine cause for optimism. Back-to-back home wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers (3?0) and Burnley (3?1) showed what this team is capable of at Elland Road, and a memorable away win at Old Trafford in April (their first there in decades) encapsulates a season that has consistently punched above its weight. Unbeaten against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, an FA Cup semi-final, and closer to Europe than the relegation zone, this has been a season that has reset expectations at the club.

The bookmakers make Brighton clear favourites at 44% to win, with Leeds given a 29.9% chance of victory and a draw at 26.1%. The injury list makes those odds hard to argue with. But this Leeds side have made a habit of defying expectations in 2024/25, and Elland Road will be rocking on Sunday. Whatever the result, the bigger picture is clear, survival has been achieved, the foundations are strong, and the ambition at this club is only growing.

Apart from a long list of injuries / chance for some of the U21s maybe, not the usual Farke today. Sometimes dull yes, but today, quite out spoken, pointed, robust in answers, and clearly out to make his point. Highlighted the next project, all boxes ticked and completed, clubs ambition must match my own etc. Rumblings behind the scenes, or maybe just making the board aware of whats required in summer? Interesting

The following set of fixtures is the PL Dash, the final matches for the "regular" PL competition and a stand-alone competition for a trophy in its own right.

If you have taken part in the PL at any point this season, you are eligible to enter this competition and, with skill and/or luck, you might even win.

(P) Brighton and Hove Albion v Manchester United
(P) Burnley v Wolverhampton Wanderers
(P) Crystal Palace v Arsenal
(P) Fulham v Newcastle United
(P) Liverpool v Brentford
(P) Manchester City v Aston Villa
(P) Nottingham Forest v AFC Bournemouth
(P) Sunderland v Chelsea
(P) Tottenham Hotspur v Everton
(P) West Ham United v Leeds United

In the event of a tie for first place, the eventual Dash winner will be determined to be (in order) the poster with

1) The most correct outcomes

followed by

2) The closest to the total number of goals scored

followed by

3) The earliest to post (based on your last valid posting)

Open to all fans of every persuasion.

Safe: Safe x2: Definitely not safe and probable champions?: Not safe (yet) and safe

Calverley (ExOE), Lufcjohn88 (EEOx) and MORRIM (EEOx) scored a healthy 15 points out of the available twenty-four. Calverley even totally nailed the Leeds result. On here, anyway. :D

Chezzer (xOOE) did the Leeds thing too, but only picked up six from the other three fixtures. Totes staying up though! XD

Ozleeds and Orgoner share the top spot. It's then Pacaman closely followed by Cherry.

Ubique was missing.

There were three draws, so Johnny_Default leaps to 93. Any Strike One (Ubique), Strike Two or Strike Three posters would've scored nine, six or three for their total lack of effort.

The average active weekly score was 6.5.
.

*The results*

(P) Palace v Toffees (2-2)
(P) Tricky Trees v Magpies (1-1)
(P) Hammers v Gunners (0-1)
(P) Lilywhites v Super Whites (1-1)

The next (the penultimate!) fixtures are out as a separate thread.

Monday 11th May, 8:00pm | Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Image: https://i.postimg.cc/f39WZtNv/Spurs-PL.png (https://postimg.cc/f39WZtNv)

As Leeds head down to North London, we can all put the calculators away and stop looking at permutations of the remaining fixtures, because we're safe. As Leeds fans it's hard not to stress, to think about the worst outcome, but it's a narrative that Daniel Farke has tried to change this season. He's tried to calm the waters, to instil a belief back into the fans. On this occasion, Arsenal have done the job for us. Victory for the Gunners at the London Stadium means both Leeds and Forest, level on 43 points, are mathematically safe with three games to play. Rather than heading into tonight's game nervous, looking down, Leeds can go to Spurs stress-free, looking up the table. Aside from West Ham losing, all the teams around Leeds drew on Sunday, meaning a win tonight could move the Whites up as far as thirteenth.

The relegation battle remains very much alive beneath us though, and it's one we still have a significant say in, having to play both teams in our final three games. First up is Tottenham who sit seventeenth on 37 points, just one above West Ham in the final drop spot on 36. After tonight, Leeds then travel to Brighton before heading to the London Stadium for the final game of the season, a game which now has no bearing on Leeds United's survival, but could very much for West Ham depending on how results go between now and then. Leeds find themselves in a fascinating position, mathematically safe, yet potentially the kingmakers of the entire relegation scrap, with both clubs knowing that a result against Farke's side could be the difference between top flight football next season and the Championship.

If there's one thing Farke has built this season, it's a team that doesn't panic, and the evidence is in the numbers. Leeds are unbeaten in their last six league games, a run that includes victories over Manchester United and Wolves, and draws at Bournemouth and Brentford. Farke himself is under the weather and missed the pre-match press conference, with assistant manager Edmund Riemer stepping in. He was understandably bullish: "In the form table we are the second-best team at the moment. This is the best form we have been in throughout the season, and we want to finish the season on a high." The desire to maintain momentum, to finish as high as possible, and to carry this form into what promises to be a significant summer at Elland Road, that's the motivation now.

Tottenham's season has been nothing short of a soap opera. Three managers, a winless run stretching back to December, and a fanbase that has spent most of the campaign in despair. Thomas Frank lasted until February before being dismissed, Igor Tudor briefly took the reins as a self-described firefighter before also being shown the door and then came Roberto De Zerbi. The former Brighton boss arrived in March and has set about reshaping Spurs in his image. After an opening defeat at Sunderland, he drew with Brighton before back-to-back wins over Wolves and Aston Villa, with Conor Gallagher and Richarlison both finding the net in the Midlands. Riemer acknowledged the transformation at his press conference, warning that De Zerbi's side are now a very different proposition to the rudderless outfit of a few months ago. This is emphatically not a dead rubber for Spurs, it's a survival mission.

On the team news front, Leeds will be without Noah Okafor through a calf strain and Gabriel Gudmundsson, who has come too soon on his return from a hamstring injury. There is a doubt over Pascal Struijk, who picked up a hip contusion and trained individually on Friday, though Riemer expressed hope he would be available. Farke himself is expected to take his place in the dugout despite his illness; "he didn't sound too good, but I'm pretty sure he will be alright," said Riemer. For Spurs, De Zerbi will be hoping that the momentum of back-to-back wins carries his players through what is, for them, a must-not-lose occasion.

For the first time in what feels like an age, Leeds head into a match with nothing to fear and everything to play for and that freedom could be the most dangerous thing of all. Spurs will be desperate, De Zerbi will have them fired up, and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is never a comfortable away day, but Leeds have shown all season that they don't wilt under pressure. A point keeps the unbeaten run going. A good win could lift us to thirteenth and sends a statement into the final two games of the season.
