Government to pay asylum seeker families ?40k to leave UK
The government is to pay asylum seeker families ?10,000 a person to leave the UK.
That's a maximum of ?40,000 for a family of four.
It's the latest announcement in a blitz of policies from the home secretary this morning to make the asylum system stricter.
The Home Office says it costs the taxpayer ?158,000 per year for a family of three to be housed in a hotel - and claim it means the new system could save up to ?20m a year.
Families will have a maximum of seven days to accept the offer.
